IV. RATIONALE:

"You do not study mathematics because it helps you build a bridge. You study
mathematics because it is the poetry of the universe. Its beauty transcends mere things."
--Johnathan David Farley; Orono, Me.

Proficiency in Mathematics is seen as an essential precursor to success in modern

society. Okereke (2006) stated that Mathematics is the Science of things that have a

pattern of regularity and logical order and finding and explaining the regularity. It is the

foundation of Science and Technology and its functional role is multifarious, that no area of

Science, Technology, and Business Enterprise escapes its application. Its importance in the

world cannot be over-emphasized. However, it has the ability to confuse, frighten, and

frustrate learners of all ages. If a child has a negative experience in Mathematics, that

particular experience has the ability to affect his attitude toward Mathematics as an adult.

With Adult learning and Development of IM’s in Teaching Mathematics, teachers

and can help these left-behind pupils in Mathematics to develop their mathematical skills

for them to cope up with the other pupils who have shown mastery on their lessons in

mathematics. This will improve their Critical Thinking and Problem Solving which served as

the twin goals of Mathematics in the Basic Education Level.

V. TARGET OBJECTIVES:
 To capacitate and develop teacher’s teaching competence anchored to K-12
standards
 To meet the desired teaching skills of the 21st century teacher following the
