TruckComTE

2 - General
TruckCom is a communications program that communicates with
trucks equipped with CAN (Controller Area Network).
The software has the following functions:
• Downloads the truck's control programs.
• Check and adjustment of operator/truck parameters and hour
meters.
• Possibility to save the truck parameters (incl, hour meter values) as
a file.
• Checks diagnostic data for various digital inputs/outputs as well as
analogue data, including voltage/current values and certain
temperatures.
The program can be run in Windows®XP Service Pack 2, Windows®
2000 Service Pack 4, Windows® Vista and in the PDA.
The system requires that NET Framework 2.0 SP 1 or later has been
installed.
Note!
There may be some differences in the interface, e.g. the position of
certain buttons, between the PC and PDA versions.

3 - Connection

3.1 Connection to PC
A CAN interface, such as CPC-PP, CPS-USB, or a series interface is
required for connection to the truck.
Note!
The serial interface does not function under Windows Vista!

CPC-PP or CPS-USB
1. Connect CPC-PP to the PC via the printer port or connect CPS-
USB to the PC using the accompanying USB cable.
2. Connect a PC-CAN cable between the CAN-interface and the
truck’s CAN-terminal.

Series interface
You can also use a series interface to connect the PC to the truck. It
must be connected to the computer’s Com Port 1. Then connect the
series interface with the PC-CAN cable.

4 - To install TruckCom TE
The program is supplied on a CD or via a network as a ZIP file.
• To download TruckCom TE from the network, log onto the Intranet:
T-Sight/Service/Technical Support/Software/TruckCom Program
or at BT-online (distributors).
• Select the 'TruckCom' program from the grey panel on the left-hand
side
• Click on the desired program version.
• Save the zip-file to the PC's hard-drive. Select 'Close' once the file
has been downloaded.
• Right-click on the zip-file and select 'Extract all'. Follow the
extraction guide instructions.
• Start installation by running X:\setup.exe (X=the program's location).
The setup-file can be found in the unzipped folder.
• Follow the instructions in the dialogue boxes.

installations files are saved in the C:\Program Files\TruckCom TE
folder.

Installing TruckCom on a PDA


If you choose to install TruckCom on a PDA, the installation files must
be copied to the PDA from the PC directory C:\Program
Files\TruckComTE\ and installed in the PDA directory
\SDMMC Disk\Cab files.
The files have the file extension .CAB.

The file TruckCom TE.CAB is the actual application. The other files
contain language settings. You only need to install the language file
relevant to you. To install TruckCom in the PDA, you must make a soft
reset of the PDA. To do this, hold down the (I/O) switch for 15 seconds
and then release it.

When the CPC-USB CAN interface is connected to the PC for the first
time, you must also install the interface's drivers. Follow the instructions
in the dialogue boxes.

6 - Start TruckCom
TruckCom is started:
• by clicking on the TruckCom icon on the desktop
or
• by selecting TruckComTE in the start menu (start/TruckCom TE)
or
• by selecting Programs in the start menu and then TruckCom TE
(start/program/TruckComTE)
or
• from the main menu in EASY (EASY users only)

Note!
Easy-users must synchronise their PDA with the EASY-system
before TruckCom can be used for the first time.

6.1 Download license (PC user)


The first time TruckCom is started, a license is retrieved from
TruckCom’s license server.
If you have access to the BTWorld domain, the license installation will
be performed automatically in the background.
If you do not have access to BTWorld or if you experience problems
with the network connection or the license server, the following
dialogue box will be displayed:

The serial number of the computer's hard disk will be the entered in the
serial number field.
Go to the license web page if the dialogue box is shown:
https://extranet.btworld.net/truckcomlicense

This is how to retrieve the TruckCom license:


If you do not have access to this web page, to gain access to the
TruckCom license page you must log in using the following user name
and password:
User name: BTWORLD\TC_USER
Password: Howdy@0910
• Enter Serial Number from the TruckCom dialogue box in the Serial
Number field on the web page.
• Enter user name in the TruckCom User field on the web page.
• Click on Get Licence.
• Enter Licence Key from the web page in the Licence Key field in the
dialogue box TruckCom and press Save.
You will now be informed that the license key is valid.

TruckCom is now ready to use on your PC.

7.1 PC users
• To download software from the network, log onto the Intranet:
T-Sight/Service/Technical Support/Software/Truck Program
or at BT-online (distributors).
• Select the Truck program from the grey panel on the left hand side
• Select the folder for the relevant truck family
• Select truck software.
• Select 'Save' in the dialogue box that opens. The 'Save As' dialogue
box then opens.
• Locate TruckCom's installation directory in the directory structure.
• Save the file in the Packages directory.
• New software packages will be installed when TruckCom is next
launched.
Note!
The files must not be extracted manually. Do not use the unzip
function.

• To download software from the network, log onto the Intranet:
T-Sight/Service/Technical Support/Software/Truck Program
or at BT-online (distributors).
• Select the Truck program from the grey panel on the left hand side
• Select the folder for the relevant truck family
• Select truck software.
• Select 'Save' in the dialogue box that opens. The 'Save As' dialogue
box then opens.
• Save in a suitable location on the computer.
• Synchronise the PC and the PDA.
• Copy the program file from the PC to the PDA.
• On the PDA, save the file to the SDMMC memory card immediately
under the TruckCom directory.
• New software packages will be installed when TruckCom is next
launched.
Note!
The files must not be extracted manually. Do not use the unzip function.

7.3 Program list

a) OK in the start window closes the application.


OK in other windows closes the current window.
Note!
Other symbols are used in the program list. These are PDA-specific.
Information about these may be found in the PDA documentation.

When you start the software, the fields in the screen are empty and you
must select Connect to enter the truck’s software.
When you click Connect, TruckCom indicates the different connection
steps in a text line.

The truck’s different units are called nodes. All nodes are identified
when the truck’s software configuration files are read.

The on-screen fields are updated once a connection with the truck has
been established. The truck’s status is also shown then.

All detected nodes are shown in the node list and are indicated by OK/
Not OK. Nodes and available TruckCom functions may look different
depending on which truck has been connected.

Note!
You must know how the truck is configured. The node list also lists
possible option nodes. These nodes may be present in the truck. If,
for example, SEU is present in the truck and is functioning, the node
should be detected as OK. SEUopt/Not OK either means that SEU is
not present in the truck or that the node is present but is not OK.
If the article number of the software package is blue, this means that
new package information is introduced.
Click on the article number for information about changes to the
program from the earlier version.

8.1 Selecting software files manually


If the software package in question is not detected, a list of suitable
configuration files is displayed. If no suitable configuration files are
found, all configuration files are listed. A configuration file can be
temporarily selected from the list.

Note!
If another package than that in the truck is opened, the configuration
of this package will be shown and used. This may mean that the
information displayed does not correspond exactly with the truck's
configuration, as the various software packages may differ from one
another.

8.1.1 General software package


If a suitable package cannot be found, e.g. if the truck uses old software
or if the software on the PDA or PC has not been updated, you can
select a general software package according to the truck model. There
are a number of general software packages for Riders, Walkies, VCE
and also electric counterbalance trucks. If using a general package, not
all the truck and node functions will be displayed, e.g. no descriptive
text on parameters and I/O. For supplementary information, refer to the
service manual for the specific truck.

8.2 Functions under General


General can be selected in the Node combo-box. Once General has
been selected, options visible under Action include, for example, error
log, truck report, hour meter, date and time, software package
parameters, height pre-selection and open software packages. Options
will vary depending on the truck.

8.2.1 Log-in/Log-out
If there is support in the truck for service functions, the truck must be
logged into service mode in order for the functions to be activated.

8.2.2 Lift/Lower functions

The function must not be used and will be discontinued.

8.2.3 Error log


Registered errors are listed under Action/error log. Numbers will vary
depending on the truck. For a detailed description of a particular error
code, highlight the error code and the relevant information will be
displayed in the field. The detailed information section contains buttons
for scrolling through the error code descriptions.

To erase the error code log, click on Delete. On clicking Delete, a


dialogue box appears where you can confirm or cancel deletion.

8.2.4 Truck report


You can generate a truck report containing information about the hour
meter, error code log, parameters and package number, for example.
The information stored in the report varies depending on the truck. The
fields can be completed and included in the report. The machine
number is mandatory and must be entered in order to generate a truck
report.

Once the truck report is generated, report status and status text are
displayed. When the report is ready, the buttons Save and View are
activated.
View allows the report to be reviewed before being saved to the PDA or
PC.
The Upload button is used to send truck reports via synchronisation. To
send a generated truck report, select Upload and the report will be sent
during the next synchronisation procedure (EASY technicians).

8.2.5 Saving truck reports

1. Name the file in the ‘a’ field.


2. In field ‘b’, specify the folder where the report is to be stored. A
suitable folder name is TruckCom Truckreport.
3. Select storage media in the ‘c’ field.
With PDAs, it is preferable to choose memory card SDMMC.
With PCs, save the report in the usual way. In order to open saved
reports, open the file from the location where it was saved.
If you want to print a truck report generated using a PDA, you must
first synchronise with a PC and print it from there.

8.2.6 Hour meter


The hour meters are shown in a list. The hour meter values can be
saved to a file and then be updated using the saved file. To change
hour meter values, click on the required hour meter. Then choose
Update hour meter, which launches a dialogue box. This dialogue box
asks for confirmation of whether or not changes are to be made to the
truck. The detailed information section contains buttons for scrolling
through the hour meters.

8.2.7 Date and time


Set the date and time in each respective field and then click on Update
date and time.

8.2.8 Downloading a software package


Note!
For VCE trucks, this function is to be used with the truck in logged-
out mode.
To download a software package, first click on the New Package
button. The nodes’ software packages are then listed under ‘a’.
Available software in the PC/PDA is listed under ‘b’. The node software
is compared with the program packages selected. If the package
versions do not correspond, the nodes are highlighted in node list ‘c’.
If an update is necessary, click on ‘d’ – Update.
Depending on truck model, you can download software to several
nodes at a time, which not all models allow.

With the ‘e’ button, you can open a dialogue box where you select a
specific program package.
Emergency download
If there is a problem with the truck’s software and a normal download
cannot be done, there is a possibility to download new software to one
node at a time using Emergency download.
To start the emergency download:
1. Click on Emergency download.
2. Specify which node is to be updated.
3. Click Update.
4. Follow the information in the dialogue boxes shown.

Note!
For VCE trucks, this function is to be used with the truck in logged-
out mode.
All the truck’s parameters can be saved and updated to/from files on a
PDA or PC.

Choosing to update from a file brings up the following screen. Use this
window to select the file you want to update from and click on it.

8.2.10 Height pre-selection


Note!
For VCE trucks, this function is to be used with the truck in logged-
out mode.
It is possible to update height pre-selection from a file and to save the
settings to the file. Opening and saving is the same as for truck reports.

8.2.11 Opening a software package


You have the option of opening new software files. Choose a package
by clicking on the list.

8.2.12 Impact log


The impact log shows the ten latest imacts that were so powerful, the
truck was shut down.

The log can be deleted with the Delete button.


The impactn log is only available if the truck parameters are set to
activate the impact sensor.

8.2.13 Serial number


The truck’s serial number is shown. When replacing the mother board,
the serial number can be registered under New machine number. Then
select Update machine number.

8.2.14 PIN-code handling


Enable/Disable activates and deactivates blocks.
PIN-codes can be saved to a file and read in from a file.

8.2.15 Copying the truck’s configurations


There is a mother board and one or more secondary boards in the
truck. The secondary board functions as back-up. The function is used
to transfer the truck’s configuration between the boards, for example
when replacing the mother board. The configuration data copied are
parameters, hour meters and serial number.

During copying the progress is shown by an indicator under or below


the select buttons.

8.2.16 Reading off signature


The user that carried out the updating of the truck software, copied the
truck configuration or changed the factory parameters leaves a user
signature in the truck. Besides which user who carried out the work, the
date and time is logged.

8.2.17 Built-in battery charger


The charging log shows how many chargings have be done since the
installation of the charger and the battery’s charging capacity.

8.3 Node functions


You can select nodes under Node in the start window. Select functions
under Action. The functions vary depending on the node selected.

8.3.1 Parameters
When you choose a node, its parameters are displayed. The function
for returning all parameters to their standard settings is not active for all
truck models.
When you want to save and update from a file, proceed in the same
way as when saving truck parameters.

To amend parameter values, click on the required parameter in the list.


The following screen (Parameter - Details) allows you to change values
and scroll through the parameters one at a time or ten at a time.

If the parameter button is inactive, return to the start window and select
Connect. If the parameter button is still inactive, then the parameter is a
factory parameter which the user does not have the rights to change.
To change a value, enter the new value (a) and then click on Update,
‘b’. Confirm the change in the next dialogue box.

For VCE trucks, this function is to be used with the truck in logged-
out mode.

Note!
The appearance and functions under Parameter - Details vary
depending on the truck connected.
You can also move between parameters by using the arrow keys.
Select the parameter by pressing enter. If you want to change a
parameter, the input is confirmed with Enter. To exit, press the Esc key.

8.3.2 Diagnostics
The X, Y and Z values for the shock sensor unit (SSU) of the collision
sensor can be displayed.

8.4 Analogue and digital I/O


You can choose which I/Os you want to view by marking the boxes. The
markings remain when you select “Show all”. The Run button enables
real-time reading of the CAN bus. During real-time reading, the button
text changes to Stop.

The check box "run faster" can only be found in the PDA-version.

8.6 Diagnostics
Some nodes support a diagnostic function. The appearance of the
interface varies depending on which diagnosis has been chosen. The
purpose of the diagnostic function is to provide assistance during
troubleshooting. Diagnosis+ lists all diagnoses. I/O shows all I/O. You
can also here select which I/O is to be shown. The images below show
a few examples of diagnoses.

Click on Run to see the values in real-time. The button text then
switches to Stop.

8.7 Learn function


It is possible to calibrate certain nodes.
Select the required node under Node in the start window. Under Action
select Learn. A list, ‘a’, containing the functions that can be calibrated is
displayed.

Clicking on a function in the list opens dialogue boxes containing


information on the calibration process (see below).
