Sprint 350

Secure Meters ltd / Products / Direct connected meter / Sprint 350

Sprint 350 is a three-phase direct-connected energy meter with advanced revenue protection features,
interoperable communications protocol, and support for reading in the absence of mains supply. These
features, combined with remote meter reading support make it an ideal choice for utilities who want to
invest in technology to protect their revenue and increase operational efficiency.

Application
1. Utility tariff metering
Sprint 350 supports
• Single Vector/bi-vector/tri-vector metering
• Maximum demand (kW/kVA), and
• TOU registers
• Reading under mains off condtion

It is a highly configurable product and suitable for all possible tariff requirements of Utilities.

Net metering
Net metering is a growing trend, in which, bi-directional meter is required to record consumed and
generated energy. Utilities need to settle bills of such consumers based upon net consumption.
Following registers are supported by Sprint 350 for net metering applications
• Active import and export
• Reactive import and expirt
• Active Net
• Reactive Net

Remote meter reading (LPR)

Sprint 350 has an optional inbuilt low power radio which is useful for meter reading, particularly in
areas meters are not easily accessible for electronic reading. Greatly increases the efficiency of the
meter reading, as billing data for meters spread out in vicinity can usually be acquired in one operation
from a distance.
A typical system consists of the following parts:
i) Energy Meter with LPR (Slave unit)
ii) SEMS-LINK (Master RF interface unit)
iii) Meter Reading Instrument (MRI)
Sprint 350 LPR (Slave Unit)
The Slave Metering Unit is an energy meter with an RF transceiver to provide wireless connectivity
with the Meter Reading Instrument (MRI). As this transceiver has been programmed NOT to initiate a
radio communication unless specifically requested by the MRI, it is popularly called a SLAVE.
Note:
The Slave Metering Unit can be read using an MRI either directly through the optical port or
alternatively, using RF media when the MRI is used in conjunction with a Master RF Interface Unit.

Master RF Interface Unit

The Master RF Interface Unit (SEMS-LINK) is integrated equipment that is carried along with the
MRI to provide wireless connectivity with the energy meter(s). SEMS-LINK is a radio-based Remote
Meter Reading System which uses radio connectivity between energy meters and a meter reading
device to collect meter data.
Meter Reading Instrument (MRI)
Common meter reading instruments that are equipped with Secure’s specially designed software, which
makes it capable to read Secure make meters using RF media when used in conjunction with SEMS-
LINK.
