What is an electronic search engine?

A search engine is software accessed on the internet that searches a database of


information according to the user’s query. The engine provides list of results that best
match what the user is trying to find.

What are five most used search according to SearchEngineWatch.com?


1. Google – is a novel search that manages eight products with more than 1 billion
users each.
2. Bing – is a search engine created and operated by Microsoft, replacing its former
Live Search, and MSN Search offerings.
3. Yahoo! – The Yahoo search engine was created by two Ph.D. candidates in
Electrical Engineering at Stanford University – Jerry Yang and David Filo.
4. Ask- The Ask search engine was previously known as Ask Jeeves until its relaunch
in February 2006, when the Jeeves name and ‘butler’ image was dropped.
5. Aol Search – AOL purchased search engine WebCrawler in 1995 but sold it to
excite the following year.

How to use an electronic search engine to conduct a search?


- Using keywords
You will need to navigate to a search engine in your web browser, type one or more
keywords then press enter.
- Search suggestions
This will usually appear as you u are typing.
- Refining your search
Using some special character to help refine your search.
- Content-specific searches
In looking for something more specific, you can use a link at the top of the page.
Abstraction What is the importance of using a search engine?

Search engine is software accessed on the internet that searches a database of


information according to the user’s query. They allow users to quickly and easily find
information that is of genuine interest or value, without the need to wade through numerous
irrelevant web pages. Without search engines, it would take a consumer a number of
hours to find the relevant information they are looking for. The benefit of search engines is
that you can put in one word and have millions of websites come up relating to that word,
and if you want a more detailed search then you can ask questions or search specific
phrases that are related to your information goal.

a. What is Covid-19?
- An acute respiratory illness in humans caused by a corona virus, capable of
producing severe symptoms and in some cases death, especially in older people
and those with underlying health conditions. It was originally identified in China in
2019 and became pandemic in 2020.
b. What are the symptoms of Covid-19?
- Fever or chills - cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing - fatigue
- Muscle or body aches - headache
- Loss of taste or smell - sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose - nausea or vomiting

3. Using a Bing search engine search the following:

Assessment

The students are grouped into four groups. The groups were base on their
experiences profiled by the teacher. Each group will be given task and be graded
individually.

Group 1- These are students who have medical conditions/chronic illnesses

Task: Using any search engine, research for ways or remedies that could help you
overcome your conditions and make a poem about it. You can post it in our Facebook
group.

Group 2- These are students who experienced being abused physically or emotionally.

Task: Using any search engine, research on stories that has the same story with you and
how they overcome it and write a reflection paper of what you have searched. You may
write it in a long bond paper.

Group 3- These are students who have full family support and have internet connection.

Task: Using any search engine, research for ways that could get yourself away from the
stress that you are feeling right now especially this pandemic and make a short story about
