B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
Before we proceed to our new lesson, let’s play a
short game. It is called “Find Your X”. I have a
ball here which will be passed around until the
music stops. The student that has the ball will
choose his/her partner to guess the number of
variables that the equations shown in the screen
has.

So, let’s begin! (Music Starts)

(Students Perform)

(Music Stops) when the music stops, students

who’s holding the ball will be the one to Find
your X and choose his/her partner.
Examples:
1.) x=7 Harold: Sir no. 1 has one Variable.

Very Good Harold.

2. ¿ 3 z + 4=12−z Dexter: No. 2 has one Variable sir.

Excellent Dexter.

3. ¿ w−3=10
Junfil: Sir no. 3 has one variable.

Excellent Junfil.

4.) 5x+22y= 7
Junly: Sir no. 4. Has two variables

Very good Junly.

5.) a-b= 5
Hazel: Sir no.5 problem has 2 variables.

Very Good Hazel.

You may now all take your seats.

2. Activity
In this activity, the class will be divided
into five groups. Each group will
brainstorm on how to solve the given
problem which is related to the lesson
for today.

Is it clear?
Yes ma’am
Problem:
The sum of two numbers is 44. If one
number is 10 more than the other, find
the numbers by framing a linear
let x be the number
equation.
x+10 be the other number
therefore, the linear equation can be framed as
x+x+10=44
2x+10=44
2x=44-10
2x=34
x=34/2
x=17
This means, one number is 17 and the other
number is 17 + 10 = 27.
Therefore, the two numbers are 17 and 27.
3. Analysis
Give yourselves a round of applause for
accomplishing the task.

Now, what do you think is our topic for

today’s lesson?
That’s right, today’s lesson is about the Our lesson for today is about the linear equations.

linear equations.
Who has any ideas on what is a linear
equation?

A linear equation is an equation which has a

Very good. degree of one.

A linear equation is an algebraic

equation where each term has
an exponent of 1 and when this equation
is graphed, it always results in a straight
line.

A linear equation can be expressed in the

standard form, the slope-intercept form,
or the point-slope form.

What is the standard form of a linear

equation?

the standard form of a linear equation is Ax+B=0

That’s right, but it is the standard form
of a linear equation if the equation has
only one variable.

What about if there are two variables?

the standard form of a linear equation if it has two

Very good! It is Ax+By=C; where A, B are variables is Ax+By=C
the coefficient, and x and y are the
variables, and C is a constant.

Linear Equations in One Variable

Kindly read what is a linear equation in

one variable.

A linear equation in one variable is an equation in

which there is only one variable present. It is of
the form Ax + B = 0, where A and B are any two
A linear equation in one variable is an real numbers and x is an unknown variable that
equation in which there is only one has only one solution.
variable present. This equation has
a degree that is always equal to 1.

A linear equation in one variable can be

solved very easily. The variables are
separated and brought to one side of the
equation and the constants are
combined and brought to the other side
of the equation, to get the value of the
unknown variable.

Example:

1. Solve the linear equation in one

variable: 3x + 6 = 18.
Solution:
3x+6 = 18
3x =18-6
3x = 12
x =12/3
x=4
Therefore, the value of x is 4.

2. Solve the given linear equation: 5x -

95 = 75.

Solution:
5x – 95 = 75
5x = 75 + 95
5x = 170
x = 170/5
x = 34
3. Find the value of y in the given
Therefore, the value of x is 34.
equation. 3y + 6 = 5y - 8

Solution:
3y +6 = 5y -8
3y -5y = -8 -6
-2y = -14
y = -14/-2
Are we clear with the examples? y =7
Therefore, the value of y is 7

Yes ma’am
Linear Equations in Two Variables

Kindly read what is a linear equation in

one variable.

A linear equation in two variables is of the form

Ax + By + C = 0, in which A, B, C are real numbers
A linear equation in two variables is of and x and y are the two variables, each with a
the form Ax + By + C = 0. For example, 6x degree of 1.
+ 2y + 9 = 0 is a linear equation in two
variables. There are various ways
of solving linear equations in two
variables like the graphical method,
the substitution method, the cross
multiplication method, the elimination
method, and the determinant method.
3. Abstraction
What is a linear equation?
An equation that has the highest degree of 1 is
known as a linear equation. This means that no
variable in a linear equation has an exponent
more than 1.
What are linear equations in one variable?
Linear equations in one variable is a equation that
can be written in the form ax+b=c. where a, b, and
c are real numbers and a a≠0.

What are linear equations in two variables?

A linear equation in two variables has the form Ax
+ By + C = 0, where A, B, and C are real integers
and x and y are the two variables, each with a
degree of 1.

4. Application
Check whether the given value is a
solution of the given linear equation. If so,
illustrate the solution.
1. x+7= 16
1. ¿x+7=16 ; x=9 9+7= 16
16= 16, true
2.) 3y-7= 13 ; y=-2 Hence, x=9, is a solution.

3.) 15w +5 = 80 ; w= 5 2. 3y-7= 13

3(-2) -7= 13
4.) 21x -12= 96 ; x=3 -6-7= 13
-13= 13 , false
Thus, y=-2 is not a solution of 3y-7=
13.

3. 15w +5 = 80
15(5)+5= 80
75+5=80
Hence, x=5, is solution of 15w +5 =
80

4. 21x -12= 96
21(3) -12=96
63-12=96
51=96, False
Thus, x=3 is not a solution of
21x -12= 96

5. VALUING

6. EVALUATION
From the given replacement set, determine the
solution set of the given equation.

1.) 2x + 5 = 21, { 6,7,8,9,10}

2.) 3x-1 =7, {4/3, 5/3, 2, 7/3,8/3}

3.) 20y+15=75, {2,3,4,5,6}

1.) 2x+5= 21,{ 6,7,8,9,10}
Solution: 2x+5= 21
X=8
2x+5=21
2(8)+5=21
16+5=21
21=21, true,
Thus, X=8 is a solution of 2x+5= 21.

2.) 3x-1 =7, {4/3, 5/3, 2, 7/3,8/3}

Solution:
X=8/3
3x-1 =7
3(8/3)-1=7
8-1=7
7=7
Hence, X=8/3 is a solution of
3x-1 =7.

3.) 20y+15=75 , {2,3,4,5,6}

Solution:
X=3
20y+15=75
20(3)+15=75
60+15=75
75=75
Therefore X=3 is a solution of
20y+15=75 .

7. ASSIGNMENT
Check whether the given value is a solution of
the given linear equation. If so, illustrate the
solution.
1. 27w-5= 49 , w=2
2. 13x+10= 62, x=4
3. 8y -24= 16 , y= 3
4. 5x+10= 13, x= 3/5
5. 12x-9= 62, x=6
