INTRODUCTION
(1) General.
This manual has been compiled in accordance with the requirements set out in specifi-
cation ATA 100. It is intended to provide such data as is necessary for an approved re-
pairer to return an unserviceable Fire Extinguisher Assembly to a serviceable condition.
(2) Manufacturing.
(3) Layout.
This manual contains a general description and operation followed by data for
maintenance, repair, dis-assembly, and assembly of the Fire Extinguisher Assembly.
This is followed by an Illustrated Parts List, of which details all associated fire extin-
guisher parts.
This manual has been shop verified and has accomplished all dis-assembly,
assembly, testing and troubleshooting, by actually performing the functions covered
in this manual on equipment of identical configuration.

A. DESCRIPTION
(1) This manual contains maintenance and overhaul instructions for the Eutectic
Automatic Fire Extinguishers containing 0.3kgs of FE36 extinguishing agent.
(2) The extinguisher vessel contains extinguishing agent FE36. The extinguisher is
designed to be installed within the aircraft lavatory compartments in a fixed
position and has the ability to detect and suppress fires in areas within 1 metre
from the main body of the extinguisher. Each extinguisher consists of a container
onto which the extinguisher head is fitted. The head incorporates a remote arm,
fill valve and gauge. The remote arm terminates in a special detector/discharge
nozzle. The unit is installed in a bracket, which clamps the extinguisher in place,
with the remote arm being suitability clipped as required at four (4) separate
locations.
(4) The detector/discharge nozzle consists of a heat sensitive capsule, which in its
passive mode, retains the discharge valve in a closed position. On sensing thw
operating temperature, the capsule melts, permitting the valve to open allowing
the discharge of the FE36 extinguishant via the discharge nozzle.
The defined Part Numbers / Dash numbers are factory controlled and must not be
changed.
(6) Installation.
The Eutectic Automatic Fire Extinguishers are designed to be installed in aircraft
cabinets, with the arms run to the areas to be protected. The remote copper arms
may be shaped to suit the installation. The bracket is to be installed in the upright
position.

Once the arms have been shaped to the installation requirements, the arm must
be clipped to suitable cabinet structures etc. Distance between clips is recom-
mended to be 150mm or less, with a clip no further than 150mm from the extin-
guisher head and 50 mm from the detector/discharge nozzle.
The detector/discharge nozzle must not be more than 300mm from the item or
area being protected.
After installation is completed, check to ensure the following:-
a) Arms are correctly clipped, and all clips are installed.
b) There are NO sharp bends or kinks in the arms.
c) Extinguisher is secure within the Bracket.
d) Gauge is showing FULL or in the GREEN sector.
e) Ensure Detector/Discharge nozzle assembly is correctly sited and free of
contaminates and waste material.
B. OPERATION
General
On sensing the operation temperature, the heat sensitive capsule, within the
special detector discharge nozzle assembly melts. Extinguishant pressure lifts the
Viton sealing ball and associated seal support, spring coil and piston nozzle,
which, prior to the eutectic melting held the Viton sealing ball in place. Extinguish-
ant is then released via the discharge nozzle.
On discharge, the pressure indicator will fall to zero. Average discharge time for
0.3Kg fill of extinguishant is between five (5) and fifteen (15) seconds.

C Test Procedure.
(1) Check extinguisher assembly for obvious damage i.e.: Scored, dented
containers, pinched or damaged remote arms, are all cause for
rejection. Ensure detector/discharge nozzles are correctly sited and free
from contaminates and waste material.

5. REPAIR
A. General
Extinguishers must not be repaired. Extinguishers which have been fired, time
expired, or require repair, should be replaced.
CAUTION: TIME EXPIRED, USED, OR PART USED EXTINGUISHERS. ANY
REMAINING EXTINGUISHANT MUST NOT BE VENTED TO
ATMOSPHERE. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT USERS CONTACT
THEIR LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL AGENCY TO SEEK GUIDANCE ON
HANDLING THE EXTINGUISHANT IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH
THE REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO THEIR GEOGRAPHIC
LOCATION.
6. ASSEMBLY AND STORAGE
A. Assembly
(1) Extinguishers should be re-installed in the mounting bracket in the toilet

The introduction contains all explanatory information for the individual sections
as necessary for the use of this IPL. The introduction also contains a list of
abbreviations used in the detailed parts list.
The first number in the first line of a page indicates the number of the figure
illustrating the part. The second number indicates the item number by which
the part is identifiable on the illustration. A dash number indicates that the part
number is not illustrated.
The part number column contains the original manufacturer part number. When
standard parts are used, the standard part number is listed in the column.
d) Column NOMENCLATURE
The Nomenclature column gives the name of each assembly or part. Details of
an assembly are listed immediately after the assembly, and indented one dot to
the right, to indicate relationship.
