I. Introduction:
This module will guide and help you on how to graph system of linear
equations in two variables.
II. Objective:
In this learning module, the students must be able to graph a system
of linear equations in two variables.
IV. Pre-Test:
Read each item carefully and encircle the letter of the best answer.
𝑥−𝑦 =3
1. Which of the following is the graph of the system { ?
2𝑥 − 2𝑦 = 6
A. C.
B. D.
1
2. The graph of a system of a linear equation is illustrated at the right.
Which of the following can be the equations of the given system?
5𝑥 − 3𝑦 = 3
A. {
5𝑥 − 3𝑦 = −9
𝑥 + 3𝑦 = 3
B. {
5𝑥 − 3𝑦 = 1
𝑥−𝑦= 5
C. {
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −2
𝑥 − 3𝑦 = 3
D. {
2𝑥 − 6𝑦 = 9
𝑥 + 2𝑦 = 4
3. Which of the following is the graph of the system { ?
𝑥 − 3𝑦 = −3
A. C.
B. D.
V. Learning Activities:
2
Learning Situation #1
Graphing Using the Intercepts
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −1
Let us graph the system { by
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −3
using their intercepts. Take note that you
need at least two points to draw a line.
Equation #1:
𝒙 – intercept 𝒚- intercept
Let 𝑦 = 0 Let 𝑥 = 0
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −1 𝑥 + 𝑦 = −1
𝑥 + 0 = −1 0 + 𝑦 = −1
𝑥 = −1 𝑦 = −1
The corresponding point is (−1,0) The corresponding point s (0, −1)
Equation #2:
𝒙 – intercept 𝒚- intercept
Let 𝑦 = 0 Let 𝑥 = 0
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −3 𝑥 + 𝑦 = −3
𝑥 + 0 = −3 0 + 𝑦 = −3
𝑥 = −3 𝑦 = −3
The corresponding point is (−3, 0) The corresponding point is (0, −3)

Learning Situation #2
Graphing Using the Slope and 𝒚-intercept
𝑦 = −2𝑥 + 3
Let us graph the system {
𝑦 = 3𝑥 − 2
by using their intercepts. Notice that the
equations are written in the slope-
intercept form. You can you use the 𝑦-
intercept and the slope of each line to
draw their graphs.
For equation #1, 𝒚 = −𝟐𝒙 + 𝟑, the slope
is −2 and the 𝑦-intercept is 3 which has
a corresponding point of (0, 3). Since,
you need two points to draw a line, you
use the slope −2 to locate the other
point.
𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑒
Remember that the slope m is the ratio of the rise and run, m =
𝑟𝑢𝑛
−2
Since your slope for equation #1 is m = -2 or , your rise is -2 and run is 1.
1
From your first point (0,3), you move 2 units downward and 1 unit rightward.
Thus, your second point is (1, 1). Connect the points and draw the line.
3
Since your slope for equation # 2 is 𝑚 = 3 or , your rise is 3 and run is 1.
1
From your first point (0, −2), you move 3 units upward and 1 unit rightward.
Thus, your second point is (1, 1). Connect the points and draw the line.

VI. Practice Exercises:
2𝑥 + 𝑦 = 6
{
2𝑥 + 𝑦 = 2
𝑦 = −𝑥 + 3
{
𝑦 = 𝑥+1
4𝑥 + 4𝑦 = −12
{
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −3
5
VII. Post Test: Graph each of the following linear equations in two
variables on the Cartesian coordinate plane.
𝑥+𝑦=8 3𝑥 − 𝑦 = 7
1. { 2. {
𝑥 + 𝑦 = −3 𝑥 + 3𝑦 = −4
𝑥 + 6𝑦 = 9 𝑥 − 2𝑦 = 12
3. { 4. {
2𝑥 + 6𝑦 = 18 6𝑥 + 3𝑦 = −9
3𝑥 + 𝑦 = −2
5. {
𝑥 + 2𝑦 = −4
6
VIII. Assignment:
