Learning
Environment

To have a meaningful and successful accomplishment in this FS episode, be sure to read

through the whole episode before participating and assisting in your FS 2 Resource Teacher’s
class. Note all the information you will need in tasks you will need to do before working on this
episode.

Target Your Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this episode, I must be able to assist in the preparation of the
traditional face-to-face learning environment.

Clarify Your Task

Enhancing a Face-to-Face or In-Person Classroom Environment for Learning
In a face-to-face-classroom, students and the teacher are physically present. They meet at
a time set in the classroom. The teacher prepares activities, provides instruction and evaluates
students’ learning. Equipment and instructional materials are made available in the classroom
where teaching and learning take place most of the time.
Some of the advantages of face-to-face learning environment for the students are:
 less distraction and more concentration than when studying at home or elsewhere;
 greater understanding and real world examples from teachers and classmates;
 greater chance of completing course work by doing it in the classroom sace;
 learn more easily and more comfortably in familiar, traditional classroom
situation;
 access more relevant information from teachers and classmates’ interactions and
 greater opportunity to connect and socialize, network and solve problems together
with classmates and teacher.

Here are some characteristics of the face-to-face or in-person learning environment.

 Learning space is physical. Both the teacher and learner see and hear each other
from the same contained safe place called the classroom.
 Lessons are derived with the teacher physically facilitating. Reading assignments
are from textbooks and other resources provided or referred.
 Class meetings occur regularly on a specific time or schedule.
 Teacher leads the conversation, within a limited amount of time.
 Assessment is done face-to-face and usually during the class meeting.

Participate and Assist
Given the concepts and the infographic, how can you participate and assist in a face-to-
face learning environment?
Answer: As a future teacher, I may participate in and contribute to a face-to-face
learning environment by creating a welcoming, comfortable, and conducive classroom where
students feel free to participate in class and ask questions. Students are encouraged to connect
with one another, express their opinions, and give comments on material or lessons. In order to
improve the quality of their task output, I will also let students work both independently and in
groups to build their social, creative, and analytical thinking abilities. In addition, I think I will
be able to use a range of teaching techniques that will greatly benefit and aid in a face-to-face
learning setting because we are using this new curriculum. I think I can use technology to make
my classes more interesting for my students and to inspire them to consider and discuss what
they have learned.

Notice
Having been exposed to traditional classrooms in your basic education, it seems that
everything is familiar. However, as teaching-learning theories evolve over time there are changes
that are taking place.
What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom spaces?

Analyze
What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?
Answer: The rapid increase in technology. Students wants everything to be an instant and easy.
Although there I so much better way to learn this day than before, yet students are more likely
impatient to work hard in their studies.
From the changes that you identify, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?
Answer: The overall design of the classroom is where I think I can make the biggest
improvements, and I intend to use the existing technologies to make my classroom more
innovative. I think my priorities should be removing distractions from the classroom and
promoting student growth.

Reflect
Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom will
enable the leaners to achieve better learning outcomes? YES Explain your answer.
Answer: I think that if the classroom is comfortable, it lessens distractions inside the classroom,
the students will continuously absorb the material, and they will learn how to think back and
reflect on the information they have learned.

OBSERVE
What common problem have I noticed in the face-to-face learning environment?
Answer: The noisy environment, as well as the overcrowding of students in and out of the
classroom.
Can I translate this problem into a question?
Answer: What can we do to help students deal with such a situation?

REFLECT
How would I solve the problem?
Answer: Creating and enforcing the rules and regulations required by students to create a
positive and comfortable learning environment.
Will it improve my teaching? YES How?
Answer: It helps me to become more focused on the subject and give my students a better
learning experience. Additionally, it enables people to connect with one another while
maintaining a higher level of academic focus.
PLAN
What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.
Answer: To help my students practice netiquette both inside and outside of the classroom, I
would create something original. This helps students improve their values, attitudes, and level of

Work on my Artifacts
Visit a school, where the learning environment is face-to-face. Prepare a detailed report
describing the face-to-face learning environment in terms of the three components:
Physical Environment
 Is the space inside the room more than enough for the learners to move about?
 Does the room arrangement match with teaching-learning principles? Are there
several room arrangements in the school?
 Are the visual displays attractive and do they stimulate learning?
 Are the school premises safe and is the classroom space free from hazards?
 Are learners comfortable in terms of light ventilation?

Psychological Environment
 Are there sets of rules and procedures followed? What re these?
 Are the sets of expectations that can motivate the learners to learn?
 Are these observable in the classroom?
- Classroom atmosphere based on trust, cooperation and empathy
- Modelling of positive attitude, respect, behavior, constructive actions
- Avoidance of ridicule, sarcasm, superiority in the classroom
- Opportunities for learners to share their experiences and learning with each
other

Social Environment
 Are there opportunities for positive interaction inside the classroom?

PORTFOLIO ENTRY
Title: The Face-to-Face Learning Environment

Describe the physical environment:

Answer: The total structure and arrangement of a particular classroom and its learning areas are
referred to as the physical environment. To increase learning possibilities and engagement for all
students, teachers should arrange the room, furniture, and resources in the classroom. The
Universal Design for Learning principle, which emphasizes that the environment and the
resources included in it should be accessible to all, can be used by instructors to do this in an
efficient manner. This accessibility may be made possible by offering books at various reading
levels, setting up supplies on a shelf within easy reach, or leaving enough room in the classroom
for a student using a wheelchair.

Describe the psychological environment:

Answer: Without a question, the most challenging and biased environment is psychological in
nature. Within the psychological environment, teachers show their attitudes, excitement, values,
and principles. The majority of students anticipate support and encouragement when they start
their educational path. The psychological setting of the classroom encourages discussion of
concepts, points of view, and attitudes as well as inquiry into problems and raising of questions.

Describe the social environment:

Answer: The phrase "social environment" describes how the setting of a classroom affects or
facilitates relationships between young students, teachers, and family members. An environment
that is well-designed for social interaction promotes pleasant interactions between adults and
children and enables adults to assist youngsters in achieving their social objectives. In order to
establish a classroom climate that encourages positive social connections, teachers must organize
activities that take the following considerations into mind.
