Lesson Plan in
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY 10
Time: 3:00-4:00 PM

I- Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, students are expected to:
a. determine what is network and its basic types on planning and
preparing for computer installation.
b. identify the network devices on planning and preparing for
computer installation.

II- Subject Matter:

Topic: NETWORK
How to plan and prepare for installation of network in
your PC.
Reference: Grade 9 Computer Software Servicing pages 57-59
Additional Information: Google, Youtube
Performance Standards:
Able to determine network and its basic type.
Able to identify the networking devices.
Materials: Multimedia Presentation

III- Routinary Activities:

Prayer
Greetings
Cleanliness and Orderliness
Checking of Attendance
Classrooms Rules:
The 5 P’s
Be Prepare Be Productive Be Positive Be resPectful Be Participate

IV- Lesson Proper:

The teacher encourages the learners to recall the previous
topic which is all about planning and preparing for
installation of computer systems, devices and peripheral.

Activity:
This activity is called a word puzzle
game in which the teacher will let the learners find the words that
corresponds the topic for today which is “NETWORK”.
VOCABULARY ENHANCEMENT

Network - consists of two or more computers that can be linked

through cables, telephones lines, radio waves, satellites, or
infrared light beams.
Local Area Network (LAN) – a network that is confined in a small area.
Wide Area Network (WAN) – connect larger geographic areas.
Networking Devices - an Ethernet connection like hub, Ethernet
switch, bridge, routers, network gateway, modem, network
interface and network firewall.

Abstraction:
Project the words that the learners have already uncovered
and ask them to share their insights about the words.
a. After the activity, present to the class their newest lesson in ICT
9, network.
b. Define the term network and ask students to share their
background knowledge whenever they heard about “network”.
c. Discuss network and basic types.

Network
 a set of computers sharing resources such as printers and
CD-ROMs, exchange files or allow electronic
communications and can be linked through cables,
telephones lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light
beams.
 an interconnection of multiple devices, that are connected
using multiple paths for the purpose of sending/receiving
data or media.
 the computers on network
 it support many applications and services, such as access to
the World Wide Web, digital video/audio, shared use
of application and storage servers, printers, and fax
machines, and use of email and instant messaging
applications.

Two (2) types of networks:

1. Local Area Network (LAN) – a network that is confined

in a small area. Limited to a geographic area such as a writing lab,
school or building.

2. Wide Area Network (WAN) – connect larger geographic

areas such as Florida, US or the world.
Networking Devices

Hub – small, simple, inexpensive device that joins multiple

computers together.

Ethernet switch – a device that gathers the signals from devices

and regenerates a new copy of each signal.

Bridge - a device filters data traffic at a network boundary.

Routers - are small physical devices that join multiple networks.

Network gateway - is an internetworking system capable of joining

together two networks that use different base protocols. It can be
implemented completely in software, hardware or as a combination
of both.

Modem - it perform a simple function which is to translate digital

signals from a computer into analog signals that can travel across
conventional phone lines. It modulates the signal at the sending
end and demodulates at the receiving end.

Network interface - a device that connects a client computer,

server, printer or other component to your network. It consists of
a small electronic circuit board that is inserted into a slot inside a
computer or printer.

Analysis: After the discussion on network, the teacher will have a

recap on the facts being tackled using this table asking if the
statement belongs to local area network “LAN” or wide area network
“WAN.”

LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN) WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN)

d. After and. After answering, the teacher will pick few of her
students to answer regarding on the lesson discussed.
Question: Do you think it is important to learn those devices especially if you
are a computer hardware servicing technician? Why?
V- Application:
Individual Assessment: Quiz 10 Items
Direction: Identify what is being described in the following sentences
and write your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. Type of network that is confined to a relatively small area.
2. It is a small, simple, inexpensive device that joins multiple computers
together.
3. It is a device that gathers the signals from the devices that are
connected to it, and then regenerates a new copy of each signal.
4. A device filters data traffic at a network boundary.
5. It is a device that connects a client computer, server, printer or other
component to your network.
6. They translate digital signals from a computer into analog signals that
can travel across conventional phone lines.
7. It is consist of two or more computers that are linked in order to share
resources (such as printers and CD-ROMs), exchange files or allow
electronic communication.
8. This is an internetworking system capable of joining together two
networks that use different base protocols.
9. Type of network that connect larger geographic areas, such as Florida,
the United States, or the world.
10. It protects a computer network from unauthorized access.

VI- Valuing:
Why do we need to have a computer network?
What do you think are the benefits of computer network?
VII- Assignment:
Group into five (5) members. Write in an A4 size white bandpaper.
Research on the different parts of Network Topology and
common networking tools..
Enumerate and write the functions of each part of Network
Topology and common networking tools.

“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
