I. Topic: Reading words, phrases, sentences and short stories consisting of


words with consonant digraph ch and sh and other words previously
studied and the questions about them.

II. Presentation:

Today we are going to learn about some special pairs of letters called
digraph.

A digraph is two letters which work together to make a single sound like
sh in shell or fish. A digraph can be made up of vowels or consonants.
Consonants digraphs are groups of two consonants that make a single sound.
Examples of consonants digraphs are ch as in chip and sh as in ship.

Example 1:
Look at the picture. There are some chips in the
picture. The word below it is “chip”. The word chip has
digraph letters made up of letters “c” and “h” but, when
we see them together in a word, we won’t sound them out
as /k/ /h/. Instead, we will say them as a special sound /ch/.
Ch is a consonant digraph that can be found in initial/beginning,
medial/middle or final/last part of the word.

Example 2:

This is a picture of a ship. The word below it is “ship”. The word ship

child while doing this activity.)

At the Beach
Shelly likes going to the beach. She enjoys splashing in the water and
walking along the shore collecting sea shells. When she is done filling her
bucket with shells, she likes to chill in her beach chair and chew gum. She
watches the shorelines for ships and tries to guess where they are going. One
time she saw a shark chasing a fish right in the shallow area.
