DAILY LESSON LOG OF M11SP-IIIb -4 (Week Two-Day Four)

School MCSFA Grade Level Grade 11

Teacher Ana Marie V. Learning Area Statistics and Probability
Remarca
Teaching Date and Time Quarter Third
Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum
standards. To meet the objectives, necessary procedures must be followed and if
needed, additional lessons, exercises and remedial activities may be done for
developing content knowledge and competencies. These are assessed using
I. OBJECTIVES
Formative Assessment Strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning of
content and competencies and enable children to find significance and joy in
learning the lessons. Weekly objectives shall be derived from the curriculum
guides.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts on mean and variance
of a discrete random variables.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to solve problems involving mean and variance of probability
distribution.
Learning Competency: solve problems involving mean and variance of probability
distribution.(M11/12SP – IIIb-4)
C. Learning Competencies/ Learning Objectives:
Objectives 1. Solves problems involving the mean of a discrete random variable.
2. Work on the solutions of the problems involving the mean and variance
of a probability distributions.
II. CONTENT Mean and variance of the discrete random variables.

These steps should be done across the week. Spread out the activities
appropriately so that pupils/students will learn well. Always be guided by
demonstration of learning by the pupils/ students which you can infer from
formative assessment activities. Sustain learning systematically by providing

pupils/students with multiple ways to learn new things, practice the learning,
question their learning processes, and draw conclusions about what they learned
in relation to their life experiences and previous knowledge. Indicate the time
allotment for each step.
Review/Recall:
A. Review previous lesson a. Formula for mean of the probability distribution
or presenting the new μ= ΣX.P(x)
lesson b. Formula for variance of probability distribution
σ² = Σx².P(x) - μ²

C. Presenting examples/
instances of the new Group the learners into 5 and let them solve the following problems.
lesson Problem 1:
The probabilities of a machine manufacturing are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the defective
parts are 0.75, 0.17, 0.04 , 0.025, and 0.01 respectively.
Find the mean and variance of the probability distribution.

Problem 2:
The table shows the number of computers sold per day at a local computer store
along with its corresponding probabilities. Find the mean and variance of the
distribution.

4 0.2

The teacher discusses the concept of the mean and variance of a discrete random
variable.
1. What are the steps in solving the mean and variance of a probability
distribution of a random variable?

distribution and that of a frequency distribution.
4. How do you interpret the mean and variance of a probability
distribution?
5. Which formula is easier to use in finding the mean and variance of
probability distribution?
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills

F. Developing mastery Solve the problem if the probability distribution of an event X which takes 0, 1,
(leads to formative 2, and with P(x) = 1/8, 3/8, 3/8 respectively.. Find the mean and its
assessment 3) variance.
G. Finding practical
applications of concepts
and skills in daily living
H. Making generalizations The key points in solving problems for the mean and variance of a probability
and abstractions about distribution is to make use of the formula for the mean which is μ=ΣX.P(x) and for
the lesson the variance σ²=Σx².P(x)-μ².
The teacher lets the students individually answer the formative assessment.

Refer to the table of values in finding the mean and variance of the following
probability distribution.
