DAILY LESSON LOG OF M11/12SP-IIIc-d.

1 (Week Three-Day Four)

School MALALAG NATIONAL HIGH Grade Level Grade 11

SCHOOL
Teacher ANNE MARIE R. DE VILA Learning Statistics and Probability
Area
MTWF(8:30-9:30/10:45-
Teaching Date and Time Quarter Third
11:45am)
Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum
standards. To meet the objectives, necessary procedures must be followed and if
needed, additional lessons, exercises and remedial activities may be done for
developing content knowledge and competencies. These are assessed using
I. OBJECTIVES
Formative Assessment Strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning of
content and competencies and enable children to find significance and joy in
learning the lessons. Weekly objectives shall be derived from the curriculum
guides.
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of normal probability
distribution
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to accurately formulate and solve real-life problems in
different disciplines involving normal distribution.
Learning Competencies: Computes probabilities and percentiles using the
standard normal table (M11/12SP-IIIc-d 1.1)
Learning Objectives:
C. Learning Competencies/ 1. Recognize that the area under the normal curve corresponds to a
Objectives probability.
2. Solve probabilities using standard normal table.
3. Demonstrate critical thinking in solving probabilities using standard
normal table.
II. CONTENT Normal Distribution
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide
2. Learner’s Materials
3. Textbook pages Statistics and Probability (Rex) pages 74-80
4. Additional Materials
from Learning
Resource (LR) portal
B. Other Learning Resources
These steps should be done across the week. Spread out the activities
appropriately so that pupils/students will learn well. Always be guided by
demonstration of learning by the pupils/ students which you can infer from
formative assessment activities. Sustain learning systematically by providing
IV. PROCEDURES
pupils/students with multiple ways to learn new things, practice the learning,
question their learning processes, and draw conclusions about what they learned
in relation to their life experiences and previous knowledge. Indicate the time
allotment for each step.
The teacher will review the previous lesson by giving the drill and practice on
finding the area under the normal curve
1. Between 0 and .47
2. Between 0 and 1.32
3. Between -1.75 and 0
4. Between -2.56 and 1.21
5. To the right of 0.44

1. .1808
2. .4066
3. .0401
4. 0.8817
5. 0.6700

B. Establishing a purpose for The teacher will present and discuss to class the learning objects. She can call
the lesson volunteers to retell the lesson targets.
The teacher will first conduct a discussion on probability notations under the
normal curve and will give the example below.

The teacher will tell the students to find the probabilities for each using the
standard normal distribution in pair.

1. P(0<z<1.65)
2. P(z>0.56)
C. Presenting examples/ 3. P(-2.3<z<0.79)
instances of the new
lesson Answer Key:
Answers:
1. P(0<z<1.65) means to find the area under the normal curve between 0 and
1.65. The area is 0.4505 or 45.05%. This is at the same time a probability.
2. Since this area is a tail area, find the area between 0 and 0.56 and subtract it
from 0.5. Hence, 0.5-0.2123 = 0.2877. Hence, its probability.
3. First, find the area between -2.3 and 0, which is 0.4893. Second, find the area
between 0 and 0.79, which is 0.2852. Lastly, add the two areas. The probability is
0.7745

The teacher then explains how the normal distribution curve is related to the
probability distribution curve. She will also discuss how the answer above came
D. Discussing new concepts
into its probabilities.
and practicing new skills
She will also discuss the procedure in determining areas under the normal curve
#1
using the examples above. She will emphasize by symmetry the areas to the right
and to the left of the mean are equal. Areas are positive values. The negative sign
simply indicated that the location of the area is to the left of the mean.
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills
#2
In pair the teacher will tell the students to answer the problem below:
(Contextualization & Localization)
Assuming your classmate can walk at 4 km per hour and burns an average of 300
calories per hour. If the standard deviation of the distribution is 8 calories, find
the probability that a person who walks one hour at the rate of 4 km per hour
will burn the following calories. Assume the variable to be normally distributed.

a) more than 280 calories

F. Developing mastery b) less than 294 calories
(leads to formative c) between 278 and 318 calories
assessment 3)
Answer Key:

To solve this problem, transform first the values of the variable x into z values
using mean = 300 and sd = 8. Then determine each probability.

a) z = -2.5 ; Therefore, P(z > 2.5) = 0.4938 + 0.5 = .9938.

b) z = 0.75 ; Therefore, P(z < -0.75) = 0.5 – 0.2734 = 0.2266.
c) z = -2.75 ; Therefore, P(-2.75<z<2.25) = 0.4970 + 0.4878 = 0.9848
G. Finding practical
applications of concepts
and skills in daily living
The teacher will explain the formula of computing the z value. She will also
H. Making generalizations emphasize the ways of getting the probabilities same with the examples above.
and abstractions about
the lesson

2. P(0 < z < 1.3)
3. P(-0.89 < z < 0)
4. P (z > 0.91)
5. P(z < 2.01)

Answer Key:
1. 0.4772
2. .4032
3. .1867
4. .8186
5. 0.0222
