B. Establishing a purpose for The teacher will present and discuss to class the learning objects. She can call
the lesson volunteers to retell the lesson targets.
The teacher will first conduct a discussion on probability notations under the
normal curve and will give the example below.
The teacher will tell the students to find the probabilities for each using the
standard normal distribution in pair.
1. P(0<z<1.65)
2. P(z>0.56)
C. Presenting examples/ 3. P(-2.3<z<0.79)

lesson Answer Key:
Answers:
1. P(0<z<1.65) means to find the area under the normal curve between 0 and
1.65. The area is 0.4505 or 45.05%. This is at the same time a probability.
2. Since this area is a tail area, find the area between 0 and 0.56 and subtract it
from 0.5. Hence, 0.5-0.2123 = 0.2877. Hence, its probability.
3. First, find the area between -2.3 and 0, which is 0.4893. Second, find the area
between 0 and 0.79, which is 0.2852. Lastly, add the two areas. The probability is
0.7745
The teacher then explains how the normal distribution curve is related to the
probability distribution curve. She will also discuss how the answer above came

She will also discuss the procedure in determining areas under the normal curve

using the examples above. She will emphasize by symmetry the areas to the right
and to the left of the mean are equal. Areas are positive values. The negative sign
simply indicated that the location of the area is to the left of the mean.

In pair the teacher will tell the students to answer the problem below:
(Contextualization & Localization)
Assuming your classmate can walk at 4 km per hour and burns an average of 300
calories per hour. If the standard deviation of the distribution is 8 calories, find
the probability that a person who walks one hour at the rate of 4 km per hour
will burn the following calories. Assume the variable to be normally distributed.
To solve this problem, transform first the values of the variable x into z values
using mean = 300 and sd = 8. Then determine each probability.
