2. Two forces are applied to the construction bracket as shown. If the resultant R
is to be vertical, what is the magnitude of R?

3. The ball has a mass of 8 kg and rests between the inclined planes shown in the figure.
Determine the reaction at the point of contact between the ball and the plane at A.
4.  Two forces act on the bracket as shown in the figure. Locate the point of application
of the resultant of the two forces from point A.

5.  The towline exerts a force of P = 12 kN at the end of the 8-m long crane boom. If θ =
25° and  x = 6.5 m, find the moment that this force creates about point O.

6.   The two-member arch is loaded with a horizontal force and a vertical force applied
as shown. Find the total reaction at the pin A.
7.   Calculate the force in member CF for the truss shown.

8.   The uniform slender bar has a mass of 60 kg and length 3 m. All bearings are ideal
(frictionless). Determine the mass m of the cylinder which makes the normal force
exerted by the smooth vertical wall on the bar equal to zero.

9.   Determine the greatest weight of the cylinder that can be supported by the three
cables if each cable can support a maximum force of 800 lb.
10.

11.   The member shown is pin connected at A and rests against a smooth support at B.
Determine the total reaction at the pin A.

12.   Determine the magnitude of the component of the force F = 850 N acting
perpendicular to segment DE of the pipe assembly.

15.   Two ships A and B are moving with velocities of 12 kph towards north and 20 kph towards
north-east directions, respectively. At midnight, ship A is 40 km east of B. If they can exchange
signals when they are 12 km apart, find when they can begin to signal.

16.   At a certain instant, the 100-lb crate has a velocity of 30 ft/sec up the 20° incline. Calculate
the time required for the crate to come to rest.

17.   A civil engineer wishes to redesign a curved roadway in such a way that a car will not have
to rely on friction to round the curve without skidding. Suppose the rated speed for the road is to
be 55 kph and the radius of curvature is 35 m, at what angle should the curve be banked?

18.   A block of mass 3 kg is pushed a distance d = 2.5 m along a frictionless horizontal table by
a constant applied force of magnitude F = 18 N directed at an angle θ = 25° below the horizontal
as shown. Determine the work done on the block by the normal force exerted by the table.

19.   During a fireworks display, a shell is shot into the air with an initial speed of 165 mph at an
angle of 75º above the horizontal. The fuse is timed to ignite the shell just as it reaches its
highest point above the ground. How much time passed between the launch of the shell and the
explosion?

line OA at this instant.
