Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teachers are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercise and tests. Read
the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.
What I Need to Know
This module provides various activities that will help you review your knowledge and skills
about pictorial drawing. This will also help you to learn its practical uses and applications.
What I Know
Directions: Read each item carefully. Put a triangle () on all statements pertaining to
orthographic, a square () for isometric, an inverted triangle () for oblique
and a diamond () for perspective drawing.
STATEMENT
1. Picture plane is a plane figure bounded by circumference which is equidistant
from a common point, the center.
2. It came from two Greek words Two Greek words “orthos” which means to write
and “graphos” which means to draw.
3. Arc is a portion or a segment of a circumference of the circle.
1
11. A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with
a perspective as though the observer were a bird.
12. “Perspective” comes from Latin and it means “to see through”.
13. In cabinet oblique the depth of the object are reduced to half of its size.
14. All receding lines meet at the vanishing point.
15. 30-degree angle is commonly used in Isometric Drawing.
What’s In
In a fast-developing country like the Philippines, many investors are coming in for
business, and they are requiring technical people to supervise their factories and offices. New
products are introduced, existing products are developed, and unceasing innovation in
different aspects of business is undoubtedly taking place. Thus, there is a great demand for
designs. The production of goods always starts from a design. Ideas are presented by
pictorial sketches in the initial stages of creative work. Detailing is done with lines to represent
all the features of an object, such as its edges, surfaces, and contours. Lines also form the
sizes, dimensions, symbols, and notes to complete a description. And these are only some
of the important aspects and advantages of drawings.
Before proceeding to our next lesson, let us gauge your knowledge on the previous
topics that you have studied. Please identify the drawing whether it is two dimensional or
three-dimensional drawing. Write your answer on the space provided.

If you got a perfect score, you are undeniably correct about the different types
of pictorial drawing.
As an explanation for those who had a hard time identifying the questions;
numbers 2 and 5 are the two-dimensional drawing. On the contrary, numbers 1, 3
and 4 are the three-dimensional drawing.

3. Ground plane is the edge view of the ground upon which the object usually rests.
4. Horizon represents the eye level of the observer.
5. Horizontal plane is a plane where the top view is projected approximately as appear
to the observer.
6. Isometric drawing is one view drawing showing its three faces with equal measure.
7. Oblique projection is a kind of pictorial drawing of an object which surface is parallel
to the front plane while the others are oblique or inclined to it.
8. Orthographic is a graphic presentation of an object showing the three space
dimensions of an object in its true shape and size.
9. Pictorial drawing shows several faces of an object at once.
10. Projection is a view conceived to be drawn or projected onto a plane.
Orthographic Drawing
Isometric Drawing
Isometric drawing is the most commonly use method of pictorial drawing. An isometric
drawing is a way of representing an object in three dimensional views (3D) it is draw in the
used of the 30 by 60 by 90 drawing triangles. In isometric drawing the vertical line is drawn
vertically and the width and depth are drawn in 30 degrees from the horizon. The true
dimensions of the object are used in isometric drawing.
It becomes the industry standard for parts manual, technical proposal, and illustration
because it used the true length or size of the object.
4
It is from the Greek word “Iso” which means “Equal” and “Metric” which means
“Measure”. The word ISOMETRIC means “equal measure.”
Oblique Drawing
Oblique drawing is the simplest method of pictorial drawing. Unlike the isometric
drawing the width of the object are horizontally straight from the picture plane and the depth
are drawn using any angle, but the 45 degree is generally used. Oblique Drawing is a pictorial
drawing in which the front plane is parallel to the plane of projection.
This is such type of projection in the drawing of which such projectors are drawn, which
are at some angle other than 90° with the plane.
