1. Product Introduction

1.1. Experion System

The Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) is Honeywell’s unified control system for process, business, and asset
management that helps industrial manufacturers increase their profitability and productivity. Experion takes customers well
beyond distributed control system (DCS) functionality with an advanced automation platform solution and innovative
application integration to improve business performance and peace of mind.

1.2. Architecture Overview

The Experion platform comprises many different integrated hardware and software solutions depending upon the needs of
the application. The pictured architecture is a representation of many of the possible nodes that can be used in the Experion
architecture. Note that the architecture is highly scalable and not all nodes are necessary or required.

1.3. Experion C300 Controller Overview

®
Honeywell’s C300 Controller provides powerful and robust control for the Experion platform. Released with Experion PKS
R300, the C300 joined the C200 and the Application Control Environment (ACE) node in operating Honeywell’s field-proven
deterministic Control Execution Environment (CEE) core software. The CEE software provides a superior control execution
and scheduling environment. Control strategies for each controller node are configured and loaded through a common
Control Builder, an easy and intuitive engineering tool.

Introduced in Experion PKS R400, the C300 Controller now supports Custom Algorigthm Blocks. Custom Algorithm Blocks
are similar in purpose and structure to the standard function blocks that are distributed with Control Builder. However, CABs
have user-defined algorithms and data structures. For more information, see the CAB spec sheet, EP03-350-400.

2. Specifications

2.1. C300 Controller Hardware

The C300 controller shares its hardware design with the Series C I/O, offering an innovative design that reduces footprint
and installation and maintenance costs. The C300 controller module is mounted on the C300 Input Output Termination
Assembly (IOTA). The C300 IOTA contains only passive devices such as FTE address switches, FTE cable connectors and
I/O Link cable connectors to connect to other Honeywell I/O families, such as PM I/O. Figure 2 below depicts the IOTA
components. For more general hardware information, consult the Series C I/O product specification document.
