A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Mathematics (Grade 7)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define relation and function;
b. B. illustrate a relation and a function;
c. C. determine if a given relation is a function using ordered pairs, graphs and
d. equations

h. equations
a. identify the different kinds of polygons;
b. appreciate the state of being equal through side of the polygon; and
c. draw an example of polygon.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Identifying Polygons
Reference: Mathematics for a better life 5 (pp. 218-217)
Materials: PowerPoint, envelope, box, cut-out shapes, pictures

III. Learning Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary

1. Prayer
May we all stand to feel the
presence of the Lord _____ kindly
lead us a prayer.
(In the name of the Father, of the Son,
and the Holy Spirit, Amen.)

2. Greetings
Good morning, Class!
Good morning, Sir.

Before you take your sit, kindly

arrange your chairs and pick up
those litters around you.
Then, you may now take your sit.
Thank you, Sir.

3. Checking of Attendance
Our Lady of the Pillar College – San Manuel, Inc.

Secretary who is absent today?

No one is absent Sir.

That’s good to hear class! Very

good

4. Review
Class what was our lesson
yesterday?
The lesson yesterday sir was about
Parallel lines cut by a transversal using
measurement.

Very good!

B. Motivation

Okay class. Let’s play a game, I have here

a balloon, inside this balloon there are
different polygons, then tell me how many
sides of polygon does it have. I am going
to play a music, as the music start you are
going to pass it on your seatmates and if
the music stops the one who hold the
balloon will pop up the balloon and
answer it.

-hexagon
-decagon
-pentagon
-heptagon
-quadrilateral
- triangle
- octagon
- nonagon -6 sides
-10 sides
-5 sides
-7 sides
-4 sides
-3 sides
- 8 sides
-9 sides

C. Discussion

This morning, let us explore and build

your understanding as I am going to
discuss about the Polygons.
Everybody read. Polygons.

After the discussion, you are expected to

meet all the objectives. Kindly read. Objectives:
A. identify the different kinds of
polygons;
B. appreciate the state of being
equal through side of the
polygon; and
C. draw an example of polygon.

Now, let me introduce to you the different

types of polygons. But before that would
someone read this definition polygon for
me?
Polygon is a closed plane figure made
up
of three or more-line segments joined at
their end points.

Thanks. Do you know that polygons are

named according to the number of its sides
and angles?

Okay! Let’s take a look to this figure.

Okay! Now, let’s take a look at the figures

(while pointing the triangle, the teacher
will ask the students) What shape is this?
Can anyone tell me what makes different
from other shapes?

Triangle
A triangle has three sides.
It has three angles.

“tri” which means “3”

Nice answers! In addition to your answers,
triangle has a prefix “tri” which means
“3”. Let’s proceed with the next polygon.
(While pointing at the quadrilateral, the
teacher will ask the students) What
polygon is this? What can you tell me
about it?

Quadrilateral
A quadrilateral has four sides.
It has four angles.
“quad” means “4”

Very good! Let’s proceed to the next

polygon. (while pointing at the pentagon,
the teacher will ask the students) What
polygon is this? What can you tell me
about it?

Pentagon
A pentagon has five sides.
It has five angles.
“penta” means “five”
Very good!

(Continue for hexagon, heptagon,

octagon, nonagon and decagon. Students
should be able to identify the number of
sides and possibly angles for each
polygon.)
(The students will continue to identify
the number of sides and angle for each
polygon. They will also be thinking
ahead and already have the prefix for
hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon
and decagon.)

Excellent, class! I know that you’ll find it easy

to name and identify the different types of
polygons. Now in addition, always remember
that a polygon that having equal angle is
called regular polygon, and to those who have
not is called Irregular polygons.

Is it clear?
Yes sir.

D. Application

From this time class, I will group you into

three. So now you have your group, before
anything else, read the following rules for
our activity.
1. Follow the instruction and time
allotment.
2. Be cooperative.
3. Enjoy doing one’s work.
4. Maintain the orderliness and
cleanliness.

I will give your envelopes. Inside this

envelope has a simple problem that you
need to solve at the back of this envelope
it states the instruction that you need to do
and after you done your work, prepare a
short jingle or cheer if you are finish.

Is that clear class!

Yes sir.

You may now go to your respective group

silently.

I will give you 5 minutes to do your

activity
and the timer starts now.

the problem. Inside this envelope, there
are eight kinds of polygon that has a letter,
arrange them according to the number of
