We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part
of our journey in completing our on-the-job training.

First and foremost, to our Almighty God, who gave us wisdom and strength and kept
us safe throughout our journey.

To the management, employees, and staff of Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc., who
have been kind and considerate in guiding us to our two-month-long internship. We are
grateful for the knowledge and patience that you have shared for us to excel in our
chosen field.

To our alma mater, Southwestern Institute of Business and Technology, for

allowing us to experience the reality of our work and a chance to meet different people
in our field.

To our OJT coordinator, Ms. Ma. Elaine Magyaya, who gave us support and

support throughout our internship. We are thankful for your never-ending encouragement

INTRODUCTION
Internship, or on-the-job training, is one way by which we students are given an
opportunity to apply the theories and computations that we have learned from school. It
also helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and skills by performing in actual work
setting.

Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration requires the students to undergo on

the Job training to help them understand and to give them a better grasp of the career
they choose. On the job training will enhance confidence and improve the ability of the
students to solve actual problems and feel the work environment.

As a Customs Administration student at Southwestern Institute of Business and

Technology,Inc, we are required to complete 300 hours as part of the curriculum. An OJT
or internship program provides opportunities to go through actual methodologies of a
specific job using the real tools, equipment, and documents. In effect, the work place
becomes a development venue for us student trainees to learn more about our chosen
field and practice what we have learn from the institution. A valuable OJT program also
profits the company that accept trainees in many ways. First, OJT or intern provides
extra manpower for a less significant labor cost than a regular employee. Most of them
are all eager to learn the ropes, so chances are high that they’ll be given a chance
to work on the same company as an employee after graduating. Employers can use this
internship strategy as a method for recruiting employees. Since the trainer or
supervisor can follow the trainees’ progress, he can gauge based on performance,
behavior and attitude if the trainee will make a good recruit after the completion of
the internship. We trainees can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the
opportunity to converse our minds freely and without fear, we may be able to contribute
significantly in brainstorming sessions or research and eventually help improve the
organization’s productivity. While training the interns, employers are in fact also
teaching their employees to guide the trainees by stretching their patience, develop
teaching skills and make us more sensitive to the needs and mindset of the younger
generation. The course of supervision also teaches us how to share what we know and be
receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an avenue in training for
future managers of the company.

Training at Yusen Logistic Philippines, Inc., a global supply chain logistics

company that provides ocean and air freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution
services, and supply chain management is a great experience because, working in this
kind of logistics company, we developed more knowledge and skills that we may use in
our future careers.

AREA OF TRAINING

Business Development-Supply Chain Solutions Department

The Business Development-Supply Chain Solutions is the newly added department at

Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. It aims to provide optimal solutions that transcend
business boundaries, helping customers manage complex and sophisticated supply chains.
Being assigned to this department, we are able to work with personal computers and
given a chance to explore the work on our own, with proper guidance by our trainer. We
were introduced to the necessary documents such as Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice,
Packing List, Certificate of Origin, Supplemental Declaration on Valuation, Purchase
Order, Import Commodity Clearance, Computation of Duties and Taxes, and Billing
Invoice. We were given an opportunity to know how the Gport System works, how to lodge
and pre-lodged shipments using the Yunas System via CargoWise, and how to track a
vessel using different shipping lines website. We were also taught how to check
documents in several one drives and upload them to Inbound Logistics for BOC-Audit. All
in all, we are able to explore the different aspects of the department where we were
assigned to work.

Air Freight Forwarding

The most important aspect in the business process at Yusen Logistics Philippines
is Air Import Billing, which they assign to their clients. The duties and
responsibilities of an import billing specialist include sending invoices to clients,
receiving, sorting, and tracking incoming payments, addressing and resolving clients’
questions. We were given the opportunity to teach and learn corporate billing through
encoding the house of billing and how to bool that undergo scrutiny and recording
billing system. We also learned how to calculate destination charges and pick-up
charges and we also assisted the airliner representative in their tasks to obtain
documents containing the master airway bill, which is the most important documents
needed by billing department. Nevertheless, we were taught how to encode it so they
have duplicates and validate each master airway bill and also, we segregate the
invoices bill.

DESCRIPTIVE & EXPLANATION OF ACTIVITIES PERFORMED DURING THE TRAINING

Business Development-Supply Chain Solutions Department

Entering the doors of Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc.as an intern is an
opportunity to explore the reality of work in our chosen field. We were greeted by the
HR and endorsed to our designated department, the Business Development-Supply Chain
Solutions Department. The first week just revolved around introducing and discussions
about the department’s line of work. We were instructed to familiarized the necessary
documents needed like Bill of Lading, Packing List, Commercial Invoice and etc., we
observed working on different systems like Gport and Yunas via CargoWise and later on
do the actual work. Moreover, we were taught how to track vessels using a variety of
shipping lines websites. On our last three weeks, we were instructed to check and
compile documents for BOC-Audit purposes. We also encounter difficulties with the
drives that we use to get our work done most of the time. Our experience throughout the
two-month long internship was really a roller coaster ride but we are thankful that we
chose Yusen Logistics as our training avenue because we learned so much not only about
our field thus the reality of being in a workplace.
Air Freight Forwarding
 Encoding Master Airway bill - refers to the process encoding the Information of
the Goods.
 The MAWB lists the real shipper and receiver, and upon arrival, the airline
designates an agent to handle the consignment. The MAWB’s number that is
essential for tracking the shipment’s status directly on the airline’s website.
 The MAWB is the primary document without sub bills, used to inform the airline
about the cargo and its destination. It’s not a title document, so the airline
releases goods based on arrival notices, not the MAWB itself.
 Scanning and Photocopy of MAWB- it involves making copy of Master for the
Clients.

 Origin or Destination CFS must make a copy of MAWB and attach it to the AC12
Register of Air Freight or work order to retain for their records.
 Validating the master- refers to checking proving the validity of the Master and
declared the Master as legally valid.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Throughout our internship, we achieve a lot of learnings about our chosen field
and develop new skills and competencies that we can use in our future endeavours. These
learnings can be our starting line to grow as an individual and as a future Customs
Broker. We learned how to go beyond our comfort zones and understand the reality of
life and be ready to face the world after this. There are some ups and downs during the
internship because most of the things are new to us but we are able to accomplish the
tasks that are assigned to us and achieve our goals. This is the greatest achievement
that we can have, as Yusen Logistics Philippines,Inc. gave us an opportunity to be
equipped and become the better version of ourselves.
CHALLENGES/PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
Most of the issues we ran upon throughout our internship were straightforward
ones. We had some trouble adjusting to the workplace during our first week since we are
a little reserved, but we quickly got used to it because everyone is so kind and
welcoming. In addition, we ran into issues like unstable internet connections that
forced us to put our work on hold. Thankfully, despite these issues, we are still able
to put in a lot of effort to complete the duties that have been given to us.

POTENTIAL OF THE COMPANY AS A TRAINING GROUND

Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. is a company that enable not only
students/interns but also aspiring employees to excel in their chosen field. This
company open its doors to help students to discover and experience the different
aspects of the logistics world. The employees are well-equipped and kind so it is not
hard to approach them whenever you have questions. They are very welcoming as they will
treat you like a coworker rather than an intern. They are also willing to teach and
share their experiences at work.
This company does not only offer knowledge and skills, they will prepare you to
the real world and to be the better version of yourselves. They will help you grow and
build good relationship to the people in the workplace. Yes, it is true that there is
no easy job, but in Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc., everything is at its best, from
the services they offer, the management, and the employees.
SUGGESTION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF TRAINING PROGRAM
As much as we are grateful to the company and the employees, for everything that
we learned from them, and for the experiences that allowed us to enhance our skills in
this field. We would like to suggest that, if given the opportunity, the company allow
the trainees to rotate through different departments so that they can experience all of
the services that the company offers. Since this course does not primarily concentrate
on one aspect, it will enable them to be familiar with a variety of job opportunities.
But our experiences and learning are enough for us to grow in this field.
