ABSTRACT
 Widespread use of commercial activated carbon is sometimes restricted due
to its higher costs.
 Absorbents utilizing numerous agro-industrial and municipal waste
materials.
 Sewage is treated by a variety of methods .
 There are three main process used for waste water treatment can remove 75
– 95 % of the BOD (Biochemical oxygen demand).

INTRODUCTION
 Water availability and use in India accounts- 2.45% of land area and 4% of
water resources.
 The conventional wastewater treatment processes are expensive, require
complex operations and maintenance, it is estimated around Rs. 7,560
crores.
 Sewage contains the nitrogen and phosphorus often it contains pathogens-
Bacteria, viruses, protozoa, parasites.

DEFINITION FOR TREATED WASTE
Biological, chemical, or mechanical methods employed to remove
pollutants from industrial or municipal wastes, change the character and
composition of medical waste, or reduce or eliminate its potential for harm
to living beings and the environment.

Phycoremediation is a green technology that supports the direct use of living green microalgae for in situ, or in place removal, degradation, of contaminants in soils, sludge, sediments, surface water and ground waters by the mechanisms of bio-transformation, bio-accumulation, bio-concentration, bio-sparging. It can be said by the current study that microalgae has a great potential for the treatment of industrial and municipal wastewaters as compared to the chemical treatments available commercially. Biological systems are much more efficient in cleaning the excess nutrients from the waste water followed by generation of valuable biomass which can be applied in the food, fertilizer, energy production as use of inorganic chemicals like lime and ferrous sulphate generates huge amount of sludge in textile industries, but on the other hand static anaerobic treatment using acclimatized MLSS gives better colour reduction with zero sludge generation. Microalgal cells can be used in free form to treat waste waters containing high C.O.D., high ammonical nitrogen and high TDS. It not only provides a better reduction of chemicals from wastewaters but it also helps to reduce the operational cost of ETP. Microalgaes not only helps to remediate industrial waste waters but also to treat sweage water and to restore natural water bodies like lakes and ponds. As they are active in remediating the chemicals but also it shows an antagonistic effect against some pathogenic germs like total coliforms and fecal coliforms. These microalgal cells can also be combined with bacterial biomass of activated sludge process to develop an Algal-Bacterial consortium (ALBA) for better enhancement in the reduction of chemicals from the wastewaters as this symbiotic relation of algae and bacteria provides high satiability of the microalgae along with MLSS and faceable in terms of price and economy for instance the bacterial biomass provides carbon dioxide to algal cells for photosynthesis and in return the bacteria acquires oxygen from algae. The harvested biomass from the ETP’s can be used as bio-fertilizers as it consists of appropriate ratio of vital macro and micro nutrients like N,P,K etc. which enhance the growth of plantlets. It can also be used as aqua feeds for shrimps, fishes and molluscs. Furthermore these microlgal cells are non-toxic in the environment as it becomes a part of food chain and do not cause eutrophication. Therefore, micro-algal based treatment is most suitable for the treating the waste waters and restoring the natural water bodies as compared to other chemical treatments.

Human population explosion, rapid industrialization, deforestation, unplanned urbanization, scientific and technological advancement etc. are mainly responsible for the pollution crisis on the earth. Wastewater from manufacturing or chemical processes in industries contributes to water pollution. Industrial wastewater usually contains specific and readily identifiable chemical compounds. During the last fifty years, the number of industries in India has grown rapidly. But water pollution is concentrated within a few sub sectors, mainly in the form of toxic wastes and organic pollutants. Out of this a large portion can be traced to the processing of industrial chemicals and to the food products industry. The effects of water pollution are not only devastating to people but also to animals, fish, and birds. Polluted water is unsuitable for drinking, recreation, agriculture, and industry. It diminishes the aesthetic quality of lakes and rivers. More seriously, contaminated water destroys aquatic life and reduces its reproductive ability. Eventually, it is a hazard to human health. Nobody can escape the effects of water pollution. Most major industries have treatment facilities for industrial effluents. But this is not the case with small-scale industries, which cannot afford enormous investments in pollution control equipment, as their profit margin is very slender. So the present study may be helpful for finding out methods for the treatment of effluents in batch scale that are cost effective so that small-scale industries can treat their wastes before releasing them into the environment.

This study examines using rice husk and activated charcoal to treat sewage water for agricultural purposes. Sewage water was collected and tested for various parameters like pH, hardness, BOD, COD before and after treatment. Rice husk ash was used as a coagulant and rice husk and activated charcoal were used as filtering materials. Testing showed the treatment decreased pH, BOD, COD, hardness, chlorides, TSS and TDS, with optimal results at 3% coagulant. The treated water met permissible limits for irrigation use according to standards. Therefore, treating sewage water with natural adsorbents like rice husk could enable its safe use in agriculture.

Abstract: Every community produces both liquid and solid wastes and air emissions. The liquid wastewastewater-is essentially the water supply of the community after it has been used in a variety of applications. From the standpoint of sources of generation, wastewater may be defined as a combination of the liquid or water-carried wastes removed from residences, institutions, commercial and industrial establishments, together with such groundwater, surfacewater and stromwater as may be present. This waste water through sewer comes to the sewage treatment plant so that parameters are reduced and treated wastewater be disposed into water or land. For treating the sewage UASB( UP FLOW ANAEROBIC SLUDGE BLANKET) and SBR(SEQUENCING BATCH REACTOR) technologies are mostly used. All the parameters of these samples were analyzed using standard methods prescribed in “Standard methods for examination of water and wastewater”. It was observed that pH & temperature values at outlet by both the processes are almost same. Reading were taking on two consecutive days and value of Biochemical Oxygen Demand by UASB process was 32, 32mg/l and by SBR process was 11, 16mg/l. Chemical oxygen Demand by UASB process was 112, 96mg/l and by SBR process was 32, 34mg/l. Total Suspended Solids by UASB process was 58, 44mg/l and by SBR process was 10, 12mg/l. Both the processes were used for treating the wastewater and the SBR process showed better results as comparative to UASB.

This research analyzed the profitability and efficiency of organic temperate vegetable production through the supply chain approach. Survey, key informant interviews, participant observation and archival research were used to gather data. Thirty eight (38) producers and 11 traders in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Region III and Region IVA served as respondents. Descriptive statistics, cost and return analysis and efficiency analysis were used to analyze research results. The emergence of new breeds of players makes the marketing channel of organic vegetables in the CAR complex compared to a simpler, more modern and integrated chain in the regions outside of the CAR. The six key players in the marketing of organic vegetables are the cooperative, assembler-wholesaler-retailer, assembler-wholesaler, assembler- retailer, retailer and institutional buyers. Returns to total expenses were highest for native cucumber, cauliflower, Japanese spinach, broccoli and lettuce ranging from 100 percent to 235 percent. Native cucumber, cauliflower, Japanese spinach, broccoli, French beans, and lettuce give higher profits to farmers ranging from 49.00 pesos to 71.00 pesos per kilogram. The production of cabbage, native cucumber, cauliflower, Japanese spinach, broccoli, French beans, and lettuce requires low capital, labor and land use intensity indicating high efficiency. Value chain and marketing margin analyses show cost and margin differentials across players and across geographic locations indicating variations in the distribution of benefits among key actors. With the premium price that organic products command and the low capitalization, land and labor utilization needed, organic temperate vegetable production is profitable and efficient which determine its sustainability in the long run.

Unsustainable techniques, human activities, and laws used in the exploration and extraction of petroleum resources have wreaked havoc on the environment of the Niger Delta Region. This research assessed the toxicity of oil spill dispersant- Dispersit SPC 1000 on Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas spp. in water habitats. The bacteria were isolated following standard procedures by the spread plate technique. Percentage log survival was used as the toxicity index. The result of the findings showed that the survival rate decreased with increased concentration of Dispersit SPC 1000 and as the exposure periods increased while the mortality rate increased. The study also investigated the susceptibility of the test organisms to the toxicant concentrations and the result revealed a significant difference between the toxicant concentration and the susceptibility of the test isolates though the degree of toxicity differed in the isolates studied. It was observed that Dispersit SPC 1000 exerted a greater toxic effect on Pseudomonas spp. than on E. coli. The result of the 24th-hour acute toxicity of the toxicant at various concentrations showed that Dispersit SPC 1000 was more toxic to Escherichia coli (386.93) than Pseudomonas spp (459.72) in Freshwater and more toxic to Pseudomonas spp (15.96) than Escherichia coli (1293.96) in Marine water. This was evident in the lower LC50 for Escherichia coli in freshwater and Pseudomonas spp. in marine water.

ABSTRACT  Widespread use of commercial activated carbon is sometimes restricted due to its higher costs.  Absorbents utilizing numerous agro-industrial and municipal waste materials.  Sewage is treated by a variety of methods .  There are three main process used for waste water treatment can remove 75 – 95 % of the BOD (Biochemical oxygen demand).

INTRODUCTION  Water availability and use in India accounts- 2.45% of land area and 4% of water resources.  The conventional wastewater treatment processes are expensive, require complex operations and maintenance, it is estimated around Rs. 7,560 crores.  Sewage contains the nitrogen and phosphorus often it contains pathogens- Bacteria, viruses, protozoa, parasites.

4. DEFINITION FOR TREATED WASTE Biological, chemical, or mechanical methods employed to remove pollutants from industrial or municipal wastes, change the character and composition of medical waste, or reduce or eliminate its potential for harm to living beings and the environment.

5. TYPES OF TREATED WATER  AGRICULTURAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT  INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT  SEWAGE TREATMENT

6. UTILIZATION OF TREATED WASTE Agricultural wastewater treatment  To minimize pesticide impacts, farmers may use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques.

7. Industrial wastewater treatment  Industries that generate wastewater with high concentrations of conventional pollutants that need specialized treatment systems.  Install a pre-treatment system to remove the toxic components.

8. (Sewage/wastewater) treatment  It consists of three process.  Primary treatment, secondary treatment and tertiary treatment.  First removal of BOD from water, then removes the bacteria, finally filter to make the water into safe.
