The Intendenza generale di Genova, Archivio amministrativo papers, preserved in the Archivio di Stato di Genova, includes two archives, partially unexplored: the documents produced by the Genoa Consulates of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and of the Duchy of Lucca. They were handed to Intendenza in 1860 on the occasion of the end of the consulates of the Italian ancient States. The archive of the Consulate of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany covers the period 1814-1860. It is well preserved and characterized by an unusual documentary thoroughness. It contains the correspondence with the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs in Florence and the governor of Leghorn, the correspondence with the vice-consulates of the two Rivieras, with the officials in the homeland, the local authorities, the grand-ducal nationals residing in Genoa. It also includes the legislation; the documentation certifying the consul's control over the merchant navy and the passage of nationals and foreigners to Tuscany. The small archive of the Consulate of Duchy of Lucca, which merged into the Grand Ducal archive in 1847, is less organic. The scope of this article is the reconstruction of the archives’ history and structure aimed at the virtual reorganization of the papers and at the editing of a documents’ list. The brief institutional notes, found in the course of the work, are intended to provide some useful elements to better understand the papers.

The archive of the Consulate of Tuscany in Alexandria of Egypt (1828-1860) is currently being reorganized and described in an inventory. The archival organization and the indexing allow a preliminary photograph of the Tuscan community in Alexandria, one of the most important foreign colonies in the town during the years before the unification of Italy. The papers, preserved in the Archivio storico diplomatico of the Italian Foreign Ministry, carry the reader along a journey in the daily life of the town and in the commercial affairs of the Tuscan community. //

After graduating from Pavia University in 1935, Vittorio Erspamer (1909-1999) worked in Germany and held chairs in Pharmacology at Bari,Pavia and Rome universities. One of the first researchers to take an interest in neurotransmitters, he isolated enteramine (subsequently named serotonine). He also isolated, in amphibians and mollusks, peptides acting on muscle cells and receptors involved in pain-regulatory mechanisms. The archive contains his laboratory notes, as well as his malacology and amphibian skins collection.
