Macro- and micromorphological characters of specimens of the genus Pleurotus (Fr.) P. Kumm. in Argentina obtained in the field and from different national herbaria were analyzed. Cultivation techniques were used to obtain basidiomata, allowing for a macro- and micromorphological study of fresh developing fruit bodies. We concluded that in Argentina there are, so far, six species, namely P. albidus, P. cystidiosus, P. ostreatus, P. pulmonarius, P. rickii and P. djamor, the latter with three varieties: var. djamor, var. cyathiformis and var. roseus.

The application of pectinases in industrial olive-oil processes is restricted by its production cost. Consequently, new fungal strains able to produce higher pectinase titers are required. The aim of this work was to study the capability of Aspergillus giganteus NRRL10 to produce pectinolytic enzymes by SSF and evaluate the application of these in olive-oil extraction. A. giganteus was selected among 12 strains on the basis of high pectinolytic activity and stability. A mixture composed by wheat bran, orange, and lemon peels was selected as the best substrate for enzyme production. Statistical analyses of the experimental design indicated that pH, temperature, and CaCl2 are the main factors that affect the production. Subsequently, different aeration flows were tested in a tray reactor; the highest activity was achieved at 20 L min(-1) per kilogram of dry substrate (kgds). Finally, the pectinolytic enzymes from A. giganteus improved the oil yield and rheological characteristics with...

A checklist of species belonging to families Paxillaceae, Gomphidiaceae, Boletaceae, and Russulaceae was made for Argentina. The list includes all species published up to 2011. Sixteen genera and 54 species are recorded: 15 species from Paxillaceae, 3 from Gomphidiaceae, 11 from Boletaceae, and 25 from Russulaceae. Clitocybula azurea, which was described by Singer in 1973 from Brazil and Venezuela, is characterized by its bluish to grayish blue tinges, narrow lamellae, cespitose and lignicolous habit, and small, amyloid, subglobose basidiospores. However, despite its striking coloration, the species is not described or illustrated in recent literature. The species is here redescribed and illustrated, its distribution extended to Argentina, and its phylogenetic position analysed.

Agrocybe is characterized by the collybioid to tricholomatoid basidiomata with rusty to dark spore-print, a hymeniform pileipellis, and basidiosspores with a reduced to broad germ-pore. Recently, the species with reduced germ-pore were segregated to Cyclocybe. The knowledge of these genera in Argentina is scanty, although they have been partially studied in the country, but there is not a field that deals exhaustively with it. Macro- and micromorphological characters of specimens obtained in the feld and from different national herbaria (BAFC, CTES, LIL, LPS) were analyzed. Cultivation techniques were used to obtain basidiomata, allowing for a macro- and micromorphological study of fresh developing basidiomes. We concluded that in Argentina there are, so far, 14 species of Agrocybe (one of them with 3 varieties) and two of Cyclocybe including to C. wrightii, which is proposed as a new combination. Sixteen species are described and a key to the Argentinian species of Agrocybe and Cyc...

Mycena paranaensis and M. leaiana are very similar species from section Cespitosae, which have been confused by different authors. The aim of this paper is to clarify the species limits between M. leaiana and M. paranaensis . Mycena paranaensis is recorded for the first time for the Argentinean mycobiota, whereas M. leaiana is excluded.

In order to study the sexual compatibility, monosporic cultures from 32 strains belonging to four out of the six Pleurotus species recorded from Argentina were obtained. All tested species have a heterothallic multifactorial tetrapolar mating system. P. pulmonarius and P. ostreatus could be separated by interspecific crossings only. Our mating tests confirm the synonymy of P. smithii with P. cystidiosus. Compatibility tests confirm that in Argentina there are, so far, 5 Pleurotus species, namely P. albidus, P. cystidiosus, P. djamor, P. ostreatus and P. pulmonarius.

Sugarcane bagasse is a natural source of phenolic compounds. However, these compounds are bound to lignocellulose components, reducing their ability to function as good antioxidants. These linkages are hydrolyzed by enzymes like β-glucosidases, increasing free phenolics. Auricularia is a food-grade genus capable of producing β-glucosidases. The aim of this work was (I) to determine naturally occurring species of Auricularia and (II) to obtain phenolic compounds through the solid-state bioprocessing of sugarcane bagasse. We have successfully isolated five strains that were assigned to the taxon A. fuscosuccinea. We determined β-glucosidase activity by fluorescence plate assay of the five isolated strains and adjusted an optimal temperature for mycelial growth at 30 °C. A. fuscosuccinea LBM 243 was chosen for solid-state bioprocessing of sugarcane bagasse. β-glucosidase activity (12.2 ± 0.62 U l-1) and protein content (51.58 ± 6.26 mg l-1) were highest on day 20 of culture. The maximu...
