Aims: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) presents an acute heart failure (AHF) syndrome that mimics the symptoms of acute myocardial infarction and is often preceded by an episode of emotional and/or physical stress. There is no specific treatment available, and evidence is based mostly on retrospective data. Here, we show that a high-dose of epinephrine (EPI) recapitulates numerous features of human TTC in mice, enabling genetic KO studies. By gene set enrichment network analysis and studies involving myocardial KO of the endogenous calcineurin inhibitor calcium-calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII), we identify cyclosporine A (CSA) as a novel potential therapy for TTC.Methods and results: high-dose EPI caused reversible AHF with significant ST-segment changes and high-sensitive Troponin T (hs-TnT) elevation. Male mice displayed markedly elevated hs-TnT and mortality when compared to females, mimicking the clinical syndrome. Left ventricular (LV) catecholamines revealed a distinct pa...

Background We investigate if renin‐angiotensin and endothelin‐1 response pathways follow the same pattern of recovery as left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Methods and Results Ninety patients with takotsubo cardiomyopathy (n=30 in each of “acute,” “convalescent” [3–5 months] and “recovered” [>1 year] groups) who were on minimal or no medication and were free of any significant cardiac/metabolic comorbidities, and 30 controls were studied. Serum concentrations of renin, angiotensin‐converting enzyme, angiotensin II, big endothelin‐1, endothelin‐1 were measured using commercially available ELISA, and B‐type natriuretic peptide was measured using an immunoassay. Mean left ventricular ejection fraction was <40% during the acute phase in all groups, but recovered to 63% in convalescent and 64% in the recovered groups, respectively. Serum renin concentrations remain persistently elevated after a episode of takotsubo cardiomyopathy ( P =0.03...

Takotsubo syndrome is a condition characterized by acute transient left ventricular systolic dysfunction, which at presentation can be challenging to distinguish from acute myocardial infarction. Although previously thought to be a benign, self-limiting condition, recent studies have confirmed that patients with takotsubo syndrome have persistent subtle ongoing cardiac dysfunction, and many continue to have limiting symptoms despite restoration of left ventricular ejection fraction. Moreover, these patients have a substantial burden of morbidity and mortality, as well, with high rates of subsequent major adverse cardiovascular events that approach those of patients with acute coronary syndrome. The mechanisms behind this condition remain elusive. Despite substantial research, the medical community continues to have an incomplete understanding of its underlying pathogenesis and pathophysiology. Catecholamine-induced myocardial injury is the most established and well-known theory, but...

Investigations were carried out on the gill tissue of African catfish (Clarias batrachus) after exposed to sublethal concentrations (10 and 15mg/l) of lead nitrate for the period of 30 days under laboratory conditions. The resultant histopathological changes in the gills were recorded by light microscope. The 96hrs LC50 value of lead nitrate was found to be 300.45 mg/l in Clarias batrachus. Gill histopathological analysis revealed lesions such as lifting of the epithelial linings from the surfaces of secondary lamellae, curling and fusion of secondary lamellae, infiltration of erythrocytes, and at few places, degeneration of lamellar epithelium were recorded. Simultaneously, uncontrolled regeneration of the primary and secondary lamellae occurred, leading to extensive hyperplasia of the epithelial cell lining in the primary and secondary lamellae. This led to extensive hemorrhage from the gills, arrangement of the pillar cells, blood capillaries of the gills collapsed and chloride c...

The profitability of dairy farm gets augmented with the reproductive performance of dairy animals. Reproductive performance gets compromised by multifaceted and multifactorial reproductive disorders. Besides these, general health problems like hypocalcaemia and ketosis cause parturition associated problems as dystocia, retained placenta which cause metritis, delays uterine involution and compromises the future reproductive life of the animal. Prompt diagnosis and therapeutics ensure the reproductive health in dairy animals.

For visible wavelengths, a new method is introduced using truncated LoG filter with specific preprocessing to deal with challenges of eyebrows, illumination variation, eyelid masking, perspective, and movements. Here, the iris boundary is detected first and then pupil is marked with maximally stable extremal regions. The experiments conducted on challenging database UBIRIS v2 demonstrate the improved segmentation accuracy of the proposed methods. The comparison with other popular methods provides promise in terms of accuracy and speed.

The study was conducted in Kashmir valley in two geographically isolated districts of Anantnag in south Kashmir and Baramulla in north Kashmir. In each district 200 buffalo rearing farmers were selected. The information was collected through personal visit on the basis of a pre-formulated and tested questionnaire. The overall means daily milk yield, peak milk yield, lactation length, lactation milk yield, service period and calving interval were 3.94±0.07 kg, 6.96±0.11 kg, 9.53±0.09 months, 1128.79±28.30 kg, 13.52±0.13 months and 23.37±0.20 months respectively. The maximum proportion (61.50%) of the farmers were having kaccha type animal house followed by pucca type (37.25%) and tin shed (1.25%) with no proper orientation of animal house was found in majority of respondents (60.50%) followed by north south (21.25%) and east west orientation (18.25). Majority (84.00%) of the respondents were having semi-intensive rearing system. Majority (99.50%) of the respondents were seen, having kaccha floor, tin as roof material (92.25%) and leveled floor (98.25%) in the animal houses. Considerable (52.50%) proportion of respondents were having double slopped roof of their animal houses followed by single slopped roof (47.50%). Almost 98.75 percent farmers were not using protection during inclement weather conditions and only 1.25 percent of respondents were using bedding and gunny bag during inclement weather.

In recent years, numerous topologies of single phase and three phase Field Excited Flux-Switching Machine (FEFSM) have been developed for several applications. Comparative study of three types of single-phase low-priced Field Excited Flux-Switching Machine (FEFSM) is presented in this paper. Both the conventional 8S/4P sub-part rotor design and 6S/3P salient rotor design have an overlapped winding arrangements between armature coil and field excitation coil that depicts high copper losses as well as  results in increased size of motor. Additionally, FEFSM with salient structure of the rotor have high flux strength in the stator-core that has much impact on high iron losses. Copper consumption and iron loss being a crucial proportion in total machine losses. Therefore a  novel topology of single phase modular rotor field excited FSM with 8S/6P configuration is proposed, which enable non-overlap arrangement between armature coil and FEC winding that facilitates devaluation i...

A total of 40 dairy cows in early lactation (60 to 90 days) of four different breeds were selected, comprising 10 animals each from Holstein Friesian (HF), Jersey (J), Achai (ACH) and F1 (HF x Sahiwal). All cows were multiparous with body weight 250-400 kg and milk production ranged from 3 to 12 kg/day. Blood samples were collected from each animal at fortnight intervals for 90 days. In the present study, 65 % of cows reestablished estrus while 35 % cows remained anestrous, 80 % of Holsteins showed estrus followed by 70 % of Jersey and F1 cows while in Achai breed showed only 40 % and 60 % cows remained anestrous. Blood glucose and daily milk yield significantly affected post partum estrus (P<0.01) while serum total protein and triglycerides concentration in blood did not affect post partum estrus. The serum glucose level was lower (39.93 ± 3.14 mg/dl) two months before and showed an increasing trend (49.63 ± 2.47 mg/dl) towards commencement of estrus as well as during estrus (48...

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the post-thaw survival and hatching rates of sheep blastocysts using different cryoprotectants. In Experiment 1, Day 6 sheep embryos were cryopreserved by a slow freezing protocol using 10% ethylene glycol (EG), 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or a mixture of 5% EG and 5% DMSO. Hatching rates were higher in the 10% EG group than in the 10% DMSO or EG + DMSO groups (30% vs 18% and 20%, respectively). In Experiment 2, embryos were cryopreserved by open pulled straw (OPS) vitrification using either 33% EG, 33% DMSO or a mixture of 16.5% EG + 16.5% DMSO. Re-expansion and hatching rates in the EG + DMSO group (79.16% and 52.74%, respectively) were higher than those in the EG group (64.28% and 30.02%, respectively), whereas the outcomes for the DMSO group were the lowest (45.18% and 8.6%, respectively). In Experiment 3, embryos were cryopreserved by OPS vitrification using either 40% EG, 40% DMSO or a mixture of 20% EG + 20% DMSO. Re-expansion an...

Abstract Space vector modulation (SVM), with its many advantages over classical pulsewidth modulation technique (PWM), is gaining in popularity. However, only deterministic SVM exists. Randomized PWM (RPWM) with its cleaner harmonic spectrum is gaining interest for industrial applications required to meet electromagnetic compatibility standards. Inverter switching losses are optimized and life expectancy can be increased using a suitable discontinuous modulation technique. Here, we present, a discontinuous ...
