    Abstract: The European Commission expends much effort toward the facilitation of smart specialisation strategies for smart, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth in Europe. In this framework, stakeholder engagement has received growing attention but is often neglected by the academic community, possibly due to the complexity of a multi-stakeholder approach in knowledge-based policy advice. In this regard, platforms with online mechanisms particularly show promising potential to engage a diverse set of stakeholders, so-called quadruple helix stakeholders, throughout the development of smart specialisation strategies. This report discusses a conceptional approach for promoting stakeholder engagement using online mechanisms for knowledge-based policy advice. This paper recommends seven propositions for future empirical testing of hypotheses to provide a robust fundament for future research.     Ein Game-Based Learning-Spiel (GBL) im Bauernhofsetting, welches typische unternehmerische Aktivitaten aus dem Alltag eines Landwirtes beinhaltet, stellt die Ausgangssituation der Untersuchung dar. Eine initiale Analyse dient der strukturalen Medienbeurteilung hinsichtlich der optimalen Verschmelzung von Spiel, Spas, Methodik und Didaktik. Die methodische Vorgehensweise ist sowohl durch eine qualitative als auch durch eine quantitative Spielanalyse eines derzeitigen multimedialen Prototypen gepragt. Wahrend sich die qualitative Betrachtung auf Anforderungsempfehlungen fur multimediale Lernmittel von bisherigen Studien stutzt, fokussiert sich die quantitative Analyse auf das Benutzerverhalten des webbasierten Spiels. Durch erfullte qualitative Merkmale und positive quantitative Ergebnisse wird eine vielversprechende Bilanz hinsichtlich des Impacts des Projektes als adaquates Instrument fur die fruhzeitige unternehmerische Bewusstseinsbildung und -forderung gezogen. Ausgehend von 66.185 Seitenaufrufen spielen von 3.634 eindeutigen Webseitenbesuchern gezielt 147 registrierte Personen regelmasig, welche insgesamt eine Spieldauer von uber 460 Stunden in dem elfmonatigen Untersuchungszeitraum erzielten. Diese Evaluierung stellt ein stabiles Fundament fur die weitere wissenschaftliche Begleitung des unternehmerischen Lernspiels dar, um im weiteren Schritt offene Forschungsfragen fur die fruhzeitige unternehmerische Bewusstseinsbildung und -forderung mittels digitaler Medien zu beantworten. / This paper analysis a digital game-based learning (GBL) pilot project characterized by a farming environment including typical business activities of a farmer as facilitator for entrepreneurship. This initial investigation involves a media assessment regarding the optimal requirements with respect to game enjoyment, flow, methodology, and didactics. The methodological approach is characterized by both a qualitative and a quantitative game analysis of the multimedia prototype. While the qualitative examination is based on recommended requirements for multimedia learning materials from previous empirical studies, the quantitative analysis focuses on the user behavior of the web-based game in an investigation period of eleven months. By fulfilling qualitative characteristics and promising positive quantitative results in terms of impact indicators – 66,185 page views, 3,634 unique website visitors, 147 registered regular players, and 460 played hours – the pilot project is considered to be an adequate instrument for early entrepreneurial awareness and promotion.     Smart specialisation was launched as the innovation policy of European Union (EU) to foster regional innovation and economic transformation. The existence of research and innovation strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3) was set as a prerequisite for European regions to be eligible for receiving funding for European structural investment funds (ESIF). Today, the focus of European Commission (EC) is to strengthen the sustainability aspect of the smart specialisation approach. It is not enough that regions develop smart specialisation strategy as a one-time effort. The regions should ensure the establishment of continuous collaboration with the entrepreneurial actors to realize smart specialisation strategy, to assess the results of the implementation efforts and to refine strategy when needed.     Der Markt fur das private Beteiligungskapital Private Equity (PE) hat in den letzten Jahren trotz Krisen signifikant an Bedeutung gewonnen. Unbekannt war bisher, ob agierende Investoren die Entscheidungsfaktoren in diesem Zusammenhang regional signifikant unterschiedlich gewichten. Die vorliegende Arbeit ging von der Annahme aus, dass es solche regionale Differenzierungen der Marktteilnehmer geben musse. Der Forschungsschwerpunkt ist ein regionaler Vergleich von ausgewahlten Faktoren, welche mittels schriftlicher Umfrageergebnisse von 88 Investoren verglichen wurden. Hierbei wurden die Regionen Westeuropa (WE), Zentral- und Osteuropa (CEE) und die Gemeinschaft unabhangiger Staaten (CIS) betrachtet. Diese Untersuchung untermauert, dass PE-Markteilnehmer nur einige wenige Faktoren abhangig von der Region identifizieren. Abgesehen davon konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass CEE und CIS im Vergleich zu entwickelten Regionen wie WE attraktivere Investmentregionen fur PE darstellen, wobei die Indikatoren der Attraktivitat regional unterschiedlich gewichtet werden. / Over the last decade, the importance of the alternative asset class PE has increased significantly. This work presents the basis comprising existing knowledge as ground for comparison and empirical investigation as evidence to provide a critical debate regarding the deciding factors which market participants use to evaluate performance expectations of PE firms and their portfolio companies in emerging regions. The aim of this paper is to regionally identify and compare the factors of attractiveness that lie at the heart of managing firms of the alternative investment class. The paper analyzes the regional differences in these factors between the region of WE, CEE and the CIS. Within an empirical web-based survey of 1,000 market participants of CEE and the CIS statistical results of 88 survey participants are compared. Overall, CEE appears to be more attractive than WE and CIS for PE investments. However, this work is not able to fully underline the assumption that PE market participants appear to adjust their practices to the specific investment environments in which they operate. In brief, the results present some evidence consistent with the assumptions that individual essential PE factors may be adapted to the region of action.

    Despite mounting interest in entrepreneurship education (EE), innovative approaches such as multimedia, web-based toolkits including entrepreneurial storytelling have been largely ignored in the EE discipline. Therefore, this conceptual contribution introduces eight propositions as a fruitful basis for assessing a 'learning-through-real-multimedia-entrepreneurial-narratives' pedagogical approach. These recommendations prepare the grounds for a future, empirical investigation of this currently under-researched topic, which could be essential for multiple domains including academic, business and society.

    This study of Entrepreneurship Education (EE) centers on the impact of entrepreneurial role models on entrepreneurial passion, which also is expected to influence entrepreneurial intention. Based on 426 individuals recruited primarily from Austria, Finland, and Greece, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) reveals the significant direct and indirect effects of entrepreneurial role models on entrepreneurial intention, mediated by entrepreneurial passion. These effects were found to be stronger following multimedia presentation of entrepreneurial stories, confirming the fruitful spillover effects of the innovative educational use of computers on entrepreneurial intentions among nascent entrepreneurs. Drawing on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and social learning theory, this study confirms both the positive impact of entrepreneurial role models and significant short-term effects of web-based multimedia in the context of EE.     This multi-country study used role models to boost perceptions of entrepreneurial feasibility and desirability. The results of a structural equation model based on a sample comprising 426 individuals who were primarily from Austria, Finland and Greece revealed a significant positive influence on perceived entrepreneurial desirability and feasibility. These findings support the argument for embedding entrepreneurial role models in entrepreneurship education courses to promote entrepreneurial activities. This direction is not only relevant for the academic community but also essential for nascent entrepreneurs, policymakers and society at large.

    The effect of digital transformation towards more efficient, place-based and bottom-up innovation policies at different spatial scales has proven significant, as digital technologies modify existing policy-design routines in cities and regions. Smart places (cities, districts, neighbourhoods, ecosystems) depend on the way digitalisation disrupts systems of innovation in cities, making it more open, global, participatory and experimental. We argue that the rise and interconnection of various types of intelligence (artificial, human, collective) could bring profound changes in the way smart places are being created and evolve. In this context, cyber-physical systems of innovation are deployed through multiple nodes acquiring digital companions, collaboration is deployed over physical, social, and digital spaces, and actors can use complex methods guided by software and get insights from data and analytics.     The objective of this paper is to enrich the literature on the entrepreneurial orientation (EO)–performance relationship by introducing innovation success as an antecedent variable. By applying structural equation models, we examine a sample of 356 individuals from five organisations. The main results show that the team leader EO and firm EO are complementary and that they boost innovation success significantly, thereby having an indirect positive impact on the relationship between EO and performance. The mediating effects of innovation success imply that it is an antecedent in the EO–performance relationship at organisational levels, which adds to current theoretical discussions regarding the multilevel applicability of the EO construct. Thus, this study represents an original source for human resource departments that are shaping working groups.

    Purpose The role of entrepreneurship has changed to include issues beyond economic growth. This has turned attention toward the drivers of entrepreneurial intentions across entrepreneurship types, particularly in sustainable entrepreneurship. The purpose of this paper is to examine the drivers of entrepreneurial intentions in sustainable entrepreneurship. In particular, the paper aims to extend the existing intention models to include work values and attitudes toward sustainability, thereby bringing the model into the context of sustainable entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative research design, data were collected in three European countries through anonymous questionnaires. The data consist of responses from 393 university students.     Abstract The past decades have experienced a growing interest in social and environmental issues, which has put more pressure on companies to meet diverse stakeholder expectations. These expectations encompass both inter-industry and international differences, highlighting the context-dependence of corporate social performance (CSP). Given the increased pressure to conduct business in a socially responsible manner, managers and policy-makers must understand the institutional factors that affect CSP but are not directly controllable. Despite this need, empirical studies of institutional effects are relatively rare and have mostly concentrated on a limited number of countries or industries. Moreover, informal institutions such as postmaterialistic values have not been adequately considered in the context of institutional research, although postmaterialism represents social change resulting in new social demands, which then cause more intense pressure on companies to improve their CSP. Our study accounts for postmaterialism and examines the institutional effects on CSP at both the national and industry levels in a sample of 6211 companies from 52 countries. To conduct this study, we utilized CSP information from the CSRHub database, which allowed us to analyse overall CSP and its four dimensions: community, employees, environment and governance. Our findings based on linear regression analyses indicate that country-level institutions are most strongly associated with CSP, and that the level of economic development and postmaterialistic values are positively related with the overall CSP and most of its dimensions. Also, company size and financial performance appear to affect CSP, while the evidence for the effect of industry impact is weak. Overall, there are both similarities and significant differences in the drivers of overall CSP and its dimensions. Understanding the determinants of CSP can improve understanding of how companies can contribute to sustainable development across nations and industries via sustainable business models (SBMs). Thus, our results may highlight the roles played by national governments in stimulating sustainable development in general and alternative SBMs in particular.

    Explaining individual’s entrepreneurial intention is a central element in entrepreneurship research. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate that role models have an indirect effect on students’ entrepreneurial intention. We draw on a sample of 266 individuals and apply structural equation modeling. Our results show that role models have a positive and significant influence on entrepreneurial intention via the antecedents described in the theory of planned behavior, the entrepreneurial event model, and the integrated version of these models. With our study, we aim to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the path through which role models influence entrepreneurial intention.

    This contribution dedicated to entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is centered on the homogeneity of EO across hierarchical levels within organizations. According to the resource-based view of the firm, a path analysis through multiple regression models aims at highlighting significant differences between the perceptions of two hierarchical groups—work group leaders and work group members. Through reports from 301 individuals in four companies, the attention is drawn to the organizational homogeneity of EO, which has not so far been empirically tested. Contrasting the perceived EO and the multiple relationships between two different hierarchical levels reveals no significant differences between work group leaders and work group members. Thus, we can continue to rely on the organizational homogenous pervasiveness of EO. However, as one of the first studies in this sphere, this contribution has its limitations.
