This paper analyzes the nature and determinants of product innovation for food and agribusiness firms in India. The study is based on the World Bank’s Enterprise Survey and the India Innovation Follow-up Survey from 2014. These surveys included 294 Indian food and agribusiness firms operating in different regions of the country. Simple statistical tools, such as chi-square test and logistic regression, are used for analyzing the raw data. It is evident from the analysis that there is a significant difference in the adoption of product innovations across enterprise sizes. Product innovation is more prominent in large enterprises than small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). Results of regression analysis indicate that product innovation in SMEs is more likely to be influenced by a variety of internal, collaborative, and external factors. The findings of the study suggest that SMEs should diversify their product innovations to include new inputs, improved product features, and enhan...

In this research, we used a gravity model to investigate whether water scarcity variables influence agricultural trade of cereal crops for Saudi Arabia. We compare the OLS, Fixed effects, Random effects, and Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimators to determine the best model. The AIC, and multicollinearity, heteroskedasticity, and autocorrelation tests assist in determining estimation procedures and the final model. We cluster the errors by distance to improve the specific country effect variables, such as economic mass. We find that water-related variables influence virtual water imports of cereals, millet, corn, barely, and sesame.

The Federal Reserve shifted monetary policy from early 2016 by gradually increasing nominal interest rates until very recently (July 2019). A decline in commodity prices is expected in response to a contractionary policy. According to the overshooting hypothesis, agricultural prices could decrease more than their long‐run equilibrium levels (i.e., overshoot) in the short run. This research contributes to the overshooting literature by including the energy sector in the overshooting model. The theoretical results show that flexible energy prices share the burden of the shock with other flexible prices and, thus, agricultural prices and the exchange rate overshoot but less than the results of prior studies. The empirical results confirm the theoretical expectation that agricultural commodities adjust faster than manufacturing prices, but energy prices reduce the extent to which agricultural prices overshoot. This adjustment behavior has implications for income stability and financial ...

Abstract In this chapter, using various techniques such as lifecycle assessment and economic valuation of nonmarket services, the positive and negative consequences of saffron production on the environment and human life are included an economic analysis. The most important environmental impacts and functions of saffron production are included. Saffron is an ecofriendly agricultural product generating considerable economic benefit to farmers. Environmental benefits generated by saffron production are about eight times its environmental costs. Negative environmental impacts of saffron production are dramatically reduced if the use of cow manure is properly managed.

This study provides a framework for describing the profiles of consumers who are more likely to use nutrition labels and to pay attention to serving-size information. Inan online survey, food consumers were asked about the importance of nutrition labels and how often they read the serving-size information. Results from ordered logit models indicate that overweight people think that nutrition labels are important but they are less likely to pay attention to serving-size information, which may explain the overweight problem. Based on various demographic characteristics, the findings also show that food consumers do not always link the importance of nutrition labels and the frequency of reading serving-size information.
