Abstract Introduction: Communication is an inevitable aspect of nursing care of patients and the elderly and an essential factor in attaining positive aspect of treatment. Removing communication barriers can have a significant role in improving quality of care in the elderly and facilitating recovery of patients. Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted to determine communication barriers from nurses’ and elderly patients’ points of views at medical-surgical wards of hospitals affiliated to Isfihan Medical University. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire completed by was used for data collection. Subjects included 110 nurses and 110 elderly patients. The nurses and patients were selected by randomization and convenience sampling methods respectively. Different statistical tests were used for data analysis. Results: Communication barriers from nurses’ points of views included tiredness of nurses (%89.8), speaking too fast (%88.9), forgetfulness and weak memory of the elderly patient (%92.6), auditory and visual disorders (%89.8), badly injured patients in the wards (%97.2) and crowdedness of the wards. The points of views in the elderly patients mostly included lack of respect to their dignity (%98.2) and lack of attention to their questions (%93.6). Conclusion: With respect to the findings, nursing authorities should pay attention to the working condition of nurses and provide facilities for them. Nurses should be supported to be able to dedicate their time and energy for effective communication. In addition, continuing education programs regarding communication skills with the elderly and regular evaluation of these programs can be helpful. Geriatric nursing education should also be integrated in the baccalaureate program of nursing. Keywords: Communication barriers, Nurse, Patient, Old person.

Introduction Coronary artery disease is the most common cardiovascular disorder with the highest rate of mortality, disability and costs. The prevalence of its risk factors is rapidly increasing worldwide. The Purpose of this descriptive correlative study was to determine the relationship between higher-standard neck circumference and some risk factors (hyperlipidemia, hypertension) in women with coronary artery disease in hospitals affiliated to Medical Universities of Tehran in 2006. Materials and Methods 199 women were selected by Poisson sampling method. Data were collected by an interview and documentation form in 2 parts: Demographics and clinical examination (blood pressure, neck circumference, body mass index). Results 84.4% of the subjects had higher-standard neck. This was significantly related to high blood cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglyceride, systolic as well as diastolic pressures (P=0.05). A significant relationship was also found between higher-standard neck and some ...

Background: Hemodialysis patients have lower quality of life and one of the ways to improve their quality of life is providing self-care education to them using some models including self-care model. This study aimed to determine and evaluate the effects of using self-care model on health and quality of life outcomes in hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study conducted in 2012 on the patients who were referred to a military hospital in Tehran, Iran to be treated with hemodialysis. All 32 patients referred to this hospital in 2012 were selected and studied. Required data were collected using the Short Form-36 (SF-36) standard questionnaire and a researcher-made questionnaire. The educational intervention was implemented using self-care model. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 18.0 and some statistical tests including paired samples t-test, Wilcoxon and McNemar tests. Results: The results showed that the mean and stan...

Introduction: The quality of nursing services and, consequently, the health of the community has a direct relationship with nurses' job satisfaction. Symptoms of nurses' job satisfaction are widespread and can affect the quality of life of nurses, increasing the quality of care and patient satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between job satisfaction and quality of life of nurses working at Khorramabad University of medical sciences hospitals in 2019. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, 200 nurses working at Khorramabad University of medical sciences hospitals in 2019 were selected by the size-proportional stratified sampling method. Data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire, the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, and WHOQOL-BRIEF. Data were analyzed by SPSS16 and descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: In this study, Nurses' job satisfaction was moderate and their quality of life was mis...

The purpose of this study was to determine the construct validity and reliability of the two forms of the Persian version of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-6 & DERS-5-revised) in a clinical sample. The clinical sample consisted of 181 patients diagnosed with Functional GI Disorders (FGID) who referred to the digestive psychosomatic clinic in Isfahan in 2012. They were selected by census method (In a given period of time). The Persian version of the DERS, the short form of the DASS, and the TAS-20 were used to collect data. The results of the factor structure or construct validity using principal components analysis with varimax rotation recognized 7 factors for the DERS-6 (Goals, Awarness, Impalse, Non Acceptance, Strategy, Clarity, Recognition), and 6 factors for the DERS-5- revised (Non Acceptance, Goals, Impalse, Strategy, Clarity, Recognition) in the clinical sample. They showed the common variance of 59.51% and 59.15%, respectively. Also, the results showed ...

ABSTRACT Uncertainty is a major component in the illness experiences which extraordinarily can affect the psychological adjustment and the illness outcomes. Uncertainty in illness is defined as inability to define the illness-related events to the illness or disability in predicting the illness outcomes. The present study aimed to translate the Persian version of Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS-A) and to investigate its psychometric properties on patients with cancer. In this methodological study, validation of the Persian version of MUIS-A was performed in Iran on 420 cancer patients attending two major hospitals in Tehran, Iran. The scale was translated into Persian and back translated into English and revised according to editorial comments of the scale designers. Then, content and face validity, construct validity, internal consistency reliability and stability of the Persian version were measured. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 and LISREL 8.5. Mean of the participants MUIS-A score was 90.1 (16.8). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed validity of the whole instrument and its four subscales. The consistency of the instrument with a three-week interval was r = 0.91. Cronbach's alpha was 0.89 for the whole scale of 32 MUIS-A items and α = 0.58-0.86 for its four factors. The Persian version of the MUIS-A has good psychometric properties. It can be used to assess uncertainty in illness in Iranian patients with cancer.
