All weekly challenges until October 24th are part of Pixelween 2021, a contest with prizes.
You will be drawing a poster for the first movie in your very own horror franchise. Pick a name for your movie, and don't make it too complex as we'll be introducing themes for the sequels in upcoming challenges. For example a one word noun title like 'Chucky' or 'Aliens' will work great.
You are free to choose if you want to include text on your poster or not, but focus on the image either way.
In upcoming challenges you will be extending this movie franchise, so choose it wisely.
Technical requirements for this week:
Canvas Size - exactly 80 (horizontal) x 120 (vertical) pixels.
Colors - Max 4, use this palette:
Transparency - No.
Animation - No.
We're excited to hear who will be joining, let us know in the comments with an "I'm in"!
Pixelween has returned from its slumber, and it promises rewards for those who endure its horrors!
This year, you will be crafting posters of your own horror film series over the course of four consecutive weekly challenges. Each challenge will be one more part of your series, and all the posters together shall be your Pixelween entry. Call forth your darkest nightmares!
Rules:
To be eligible for the Pixelween prizes, you must submit to at least 2 of the 4 weeklies. As long as at least two of your submissions are on time, you are allowed (but not required) to submit more up until October 24, the final deadline. Having a complete set is not required to win, but the fates favor a finished franchise.
The winning posters will be chosen from all eligible entries by a jury of select PixelJoint members, perhaps with the help of some dark outsiders who for now remain in the shadows...
The weeklies also function as normal weeklies, with the usual prizes. Your success in the weeklies does not influence your chances in Pixelween judging.
Every week there will be a new theme and more colors you can use, and for every poster the canvas size will be 80x120.
Prizes:
There are 3 Aseprite, 3 Pixaki, and 3 Pro Motion keys, which will be divided among the top 9 entrants. The highest placing winners get to choose first, and if a winner does not need a software license it will be moved on to the 10th place, and so on.
The winning posters shall be announced on the 31st of October.
All who participate shall earn the rare Pixelween trophy.
How to enter:
To participate, your works need to be submitted to the Pixel Joint challenges, details are in the challenge posts:
The first challenge is: The Beginning (September 27th - October 3rd)
The second challenge will run from October 4th - 10th
The third challenge will run from October 11th - 17th
The fourth challenge will run from October 18th - 24th
If you've missed out on one of the challenges you can still submit your entry to Pixel Joint, as long as at least 2 of the posters are posted as part of a weekly challenge within the deadline.
Will you terrify the judges? Will you show them something hauntingly beautiful?
Should you feel frightened on your own, the community is here for you in the challenge forum threads and in the Pixelween channel on the PJ Discord. You're welcome to share your WIPs, so that we may conquer our fears together!

September is the month a lot of people around the world go back to school.
What's the kind of thing you'd see on the first day of class? A prank played on the teacher? An unusual new student, or teacher? An alien invasion?
Draw a classroom scene for this week's challenge, using the Amstrad CPC 464's palette:
BONUS: make the piece a game mockup.
The collab will feature Irenaart's award winning palette, Magnifiso-19.

The 19 color palette competition for CarnISOl ends! Phew what a competition. All entries (except one but I won't tell whom) got votes from at least 3 judges, in the end most of them forcing their way into the top 3.... Excepft for Irenaart's Magnifiso-19 which got almost double the points of its closest competitor(s) - Christoballs' Biome19 and SeDiceBisonte's Coney Island, whom shared the second place with exact same points.
Thanks to each of the all-star judge team - all of whom that took their time to examine all the entrants closely: Reo, Cyangmou, Vierbit, Jeremy, Wolfenoctis, Trick17, StevenM in addition to two moderator judges, Gecimen and Hapiel.
The winning palette will be used in the upcoming iso collab CarnISOl starting.... TODAY!
Irenaart - Magnifiso19
SeDiceBisonte - ConeyIsland
Christoballs - Biome19
Drea - Handsome19
Dawnbringer - AMUZE-ISO19
