The role of universities in shaping the future of society cannot be underestimated, as current students could become the potential leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, universities should serve as a basis for preparing future socio-ecological skills and values essential for a sustainable living, by reorienting current unsustainable ways of thinking and doing. This paper discusses the critical role that the Change Project Approach plays in creating the social transformation processes and actions required to reach the ambitions of the Sustainable Development Goals, enabling sustainable development in interdisciplinary university teaching. The Change Project Approach intervention has been highlighted in the university cases from the Baltic Sea region that have demonstrated important efforts to reorient university curricula. Through the Education for Sustainable Development course for teachers of Baltic University Programme, the purpose of the intervention is to stimulate the integration of ...

Reālā praktiski izmantojamo ekoloģiskās vadīšanas modeļu daudzveidība ir atkarīga no dažādu konkrētu faktoru uzskaites. Šie faktori ietekmē gan uzņēmuma ekoloģisko aspektu iekļaušanu, gan ekoloģiskās vadīšanas modeļu funkcionēšanas efektivitāti. Rakstā aplūkoti dažādi ekoloģiski orientēto vadīšanu ietekmējošie faktori un veikta to analīze.

Recent theoretical as well as practical scientific studies confirm that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an important tool for businesses of all sizes and fields of activities, which supports enterprises in their efforts to integrate environmental, social and broader economic questions in daily operations and relationships with the stakeholders. Furthermore, CSR helps the companies in creating competitive advantage, may have positive influence on its reputation and competitiveness, employee loyalty and employment, and deliver better financial returns. On a broader scale, CSR contributes to fostering sustainable environmental, social and economic development. Corporate Sustainability Reporting has become a mainstream business activity. The reports of companies are intended to provide, in addition to informing the individual parties about a specific company, a possibility of mutual comparison between different companies or comparing a company’s results in different years. This article presents the results of empirical research performed in Latvian organizations. The aim of this paper is to investigate CSR reporting information we can find in the annual reports or corporate websites in Latvia. There were annual reports for the years 2010 – 2013. The authors of the paper used the following research methods: interpretative-theoretical research, and descriptive research. Content analysis as one of the most common methods for social information analysis also was used for research. Full sentences on company social responsibility and page ratio to full volume of annual report in percents were used as a measurement unit for content analysis.. According to the research results, there is lack of reporting using any international CSR reporting guidelines or the performances are very weak. The difference in the interest towards CSR is clearly visible between large enterprises versus SMEs, and also between foreign, subsidiary, and local enterprises. At the same time enterprises that have developed CSR policies do not always follow them in reality. There are also local enterprises that take socially responsible actions without knowing that their activities can be defined as CSR. The results of research have revealed that the content of disclosure in Latvian companies is not comprehensive and is highly various. Companies that do report most often include corporate responsibility information in a separate section of their annual report, but some of them issue a corporate responsibility report. Investigated companies usually use written narrative but not quantifiable methods to disclose CSR in their reports. A small number of companies have disclosed information on community activity. Only some of surveyed companies have presented information on environment protection. Information on human resources and on product quality and safety has been presented in the annual reports of some companies. It is revealed in the study that, to varying degrees, all listed companies practice sustainability disclosure in an unstructured manner in both the annual reports and corporate websites. The annual reports pass all categories of corporate sustainability practices: the economic, social and environmental dimensions issues are generally disclosed.

The promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship is a crucial element in advancing economic development, and achieving gender equality within this sphere can significantly contribute to this progress. Despite this, women continue to face numerous challenges in starting and expanding their businesses, including limited access to markets, technology, networks, and financing. Moreover, gender bias and inequality play a significant role in shaping entrepreneurial ecosystems, restricting the opportunities available to women and impeding their capacity for innovation and value creation. This research aims to explore the significance of gender equality in promoting creativity and entrepreneurship, ultimately supporting economic growth. Employing an analysis of earlier studies, the authors examine how entrepreneurship and creativity can be stimulated by gender equality. A key component of this research is the inclusion of interviews with female entrepreneurs to understand the main challenges they face and to gather their suggestions on how these challenges can be addressed. Through these interviews, the study identifies the barriers that women encounter when starting and expanding their businesses. These obstacles not only involve limited access to resources but also encompass deeply entrenched societal norms and biases that disproportionately affect women. Furthermore, the research sheds light on the policies and programs that can help women overcome these challenges and thrive in the entrepreneurial world. The analysis highlights the need for a comprehensive approach that addresses both the supply and demand sides of the issue in order to promote gender equality in entrepreneurship and innovation. This entails combating prejudice and gender bias in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, implementing measures to increase women’s access to markets, technology, and funding, and nurturing an environment that supports women’s growth and development as entrepreneurs. Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of fostering networks and mentorship opportunities for female entrepreneurs. By connecting women with experienced business professionals and peers, these networks can help them navigate the complex world of entrepreneurship, learn from the experiences of others, and build crucial relationships that can contribute to their business success.

The importance of construction in the national socioeconomic development is obvious. It affects both the life of an individual and society as a whole as well as the environment and the natural ecological balance. It creates a logistical base in other economic sectors and describes economic development and culture of the country. Since the early 1990s, sustainable construction has been widely accepted in the construction industry all around the world. Building houses to meet the present need, we must take care of not compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The basic definition of sustainable construction was formulated in the conference organized by CIB, held in the USA in 1994: its the creation and management of the healthy environment in the construction works and beyond their limits, following the principles of the efficient consumption of resources and environmental friendliness (Šaparauskas, 2001 etc.). This conception also covers the sustainability-ensuring constructional materials, safe construction practice and new technologies

Although the term “urban sustainability” has gained worldwide popularity in the past few decades, there is still no common understanding of its definition. The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the “urban” and “urban sustainability” terms by synthesizing the existing definitions and proposing a new term through a review of relevant literature, research and definition. In this study, the authors discuss numerous facets of urban sustainability, including environmental preservation, social equality, and economic growth. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review are conducted to identify the meaning of the terms. It is concluded that urban sustainability can be defined as a state in which major subsystems of a city (economical, social, physical, and environmental) work in harmony to ensure the long-term well-being of its inhabitants and the preservation of natural resources on which the city’s growth and prosperity rely.

Challenges in sustainable regional planning have been a hot topic of discussion in the past few decades. In this article, we analyze different approaches to regional development planning and explore their relevance to achieving sustainability in the area, while emphasizing the importance of the bottom-up approach in regional planning. We performed a bibliometric analysis to detect the state of research of the regional development planning and examined the program of forming a system for ensuring a region’s sustainability. We concluded that it is crucial to create national development plans utilizing a regional approach, which involves local projects and programs that benefit not just the economy and ecological state of the regions but also the inhabitants of those regions.

Urban sustainability has become a critical issue in the past few decades due to rising urbanisation and mounting environmental problems. This article aims to develop a novel formula for assessing urban sustainability in Uzbekistan, a country with very little recent research in the field of sustainable development. The formula was created specifically for the setting of Uzbekistan to evaluate urban sustainability by taking into account a variety of socioeconomic and environmental aspects specific to the discussed region. The article provides a thorough review of the research on urban sustainability, with an emphasis on evaluation techniques and their use in the Uzbek context, which not only contributes to the development of the theoretical framework for the research but also identifies the knowledge gaps in the assessment of urban sustainability in Uzbekistan. Utilising this newly developed formula, an empirical analysis of urban sustainability in Uzbekistan urban settings was conduc...

The unemployment rate among young people has never been higher. The high indebtedness of the state, does not provide for young people to gain the preparation they need for life. More and more, the education system is reverting back to being reserved for those who can afford it and international competition is fiercer than ever. Many young people fear that they will never get a job and that their current lack of experience and training becomes a viscious circle preventing them appearing employable in the future, when and if, things improve. This situation is now being found all around the globe. Peer pressure, binge drinking and a media-induced body cult play significant roles in young people’s lives today. The information age and the internet makes them all too aware of the shocking and worrying data of the mass extinction of species, of rising sea levels and climate change. Environmental and socio-political challenges of today show that traditional models of economic growth and valuation methods, which are based primarily on financial profitability, are not always optimal, but the concept of inclusive growth is gaining popularity. In January 2018, the Inclusive Growth and Development Index was presented at the 48th World Economic Forum in Davos. But the relatively new concept of inclusive growth and its economic meaning remains insufficiently studied and needs further research. Accordingly, the paper aims at providing a bibliometric overview to determine the current state of scientific production in "inclusive growth". Scopus Database was selected as the primary data source. The scientific literature was searched based on the titles, abstracts, and author keywords with the following search strategy: "inclusive growth". A time span of 10 years was set, and thus, only literature published from 2012 to 2021 was included. To obtain a mo...

The monograph examines the essence of a circular and carbon-neutral economy and the mechanisms of their implementation to accelerate the development of the European society according to these approaches. The authors analysed the energy market of Ukraine and calculated the degree of convergence of national energy policy and the European climate strategy. The experience of the European Union member states in compliance with the standards of energy market regulation and the implementation of transformational changes in this area is studied. There have been examined the bottlenecks and attractors, which determine the dynamics of an increase or decrease of the country's energy efficiency in the forecast periods. The complex material will help to make rational management decisions in the field of energy production and energy saving. The works of the authors can be used in developing a roadmap for harmonization of Ukrainian and European standards of energy market regulation.
