Pakistan is expected to be one of the most affected Countries in South Asia by
climate change.3 With 45% of the labor force employed in the agricultural sector and 24% of the National GDP deriving from agriculture,4 the resilience of agricultural production is of high importance to the development of Pakistan’s economy. One adaptation could be to change the time that crop planting takes place. For instance, to counter rising temperatures, farmers could shift planting to cooler times of the year.

Vastushastra is a metaphysical edifice science of Indian Origin which deals with enriching human life through natural energy. It is being professed over several thousand years. It synchronizes the balance between human life and the nature through the influence of eightdirections, five elements, and natural energies, and it has no barrier of any religion and region. Our aim is to study, the experience of 12 year cycle of prosperity, stability and downfall inoccupant's life,if main entrance of premises in South to South West direction by conducting survey and experiments. As per basic principle of Vastushastra South to South Westdirection is considered as region of earth element which means region of stability. If main entrance position is in South to South West direction premises, then occupants experience first 5 years of prosperity, next 3 years stability and last 4 years of downfall i.e. 12 years cycle. After 12 years same cycle is repeated again. In corroboration and support of our statement as above, we have studied number of premises having door position in South to South West direction and neutralize the vastu defects through the application of remedial products developed by us and the premises can be made positive to the extent of 95% paving way for recovery and the benefits resulting there from will be reassuring and all this can be done without structural demolition. We are happy to announce that Eduardo Elena, professor at the University of Miami (United States), will serve as guest editor for this issue. Articles will be received between February 15 and April 15, 2022.

A new prosperity gospel is emerging in the Philippines. We call it the prosperity ethic. Its dimensions set it apart from the previous incarnation of the prosperity gospel, which emphasized tithing and confessing. Specifically, the prosperity ethic values upward mobility and uses biblical principles for the acquisition of practical skills to become rich. We make our case by drawing on the writings of Bo Sanchez and Chinkee Tan, two of the most influential prosperity-oriented preachers in the country. The prosperity ethic has three dimensions: the morality of wealth (believing right), the prescribed mindset (thinking right), and the practical skills to accumulate wealth (doing it right). In the latter part we explain the rise of the prosperity ethic by relating it to major shifts in the economy since the 1990s. For sanctifying individual hard work and desire, the new prosperity gospel is emblematic of neoliberal Christianity in the Philippines today.

Au cours des années 2000, la sémiotique s’est équipée de nouveaux modèles et outils pour étudier les pratiques sociales de tous ordres. Initialement fondées sur des considérations interactionnelles, ces recherches se sont rapidement déplacées sur le terrain du social et du culturel. Dans ce contexte, la sémiotique en est venue à s’intéresser à des problématiques proprement anthropologiques et c’est pour poursuivre la réflexion dans cette voie que nous nous proposerons dans cette contribution de dresser une typologie des horizons de sens de la persévérance humaine. Soit : pour quels motifs les individus (quelles que soient leur histoire, leur culture et leur époque) sont-ils enclins à continuer de vivre et d’agir ?

Protestant Reformation Civilizational Significance. From reformed human hearts came out the blessings of democracy, freedom of thought and speech, moral living, respect for the human personality, the absence of authoritarianism and cult of personality, a high awareness of personal responsibilities, complete mutual trust among people, the highest level of maturity of personality, a minimum level of crime, the termination of superstition, a high labor productivity, successful marriage relationships, victory over depression and blessings of very mature reaction to stress.

Conventional understanding on the purpose of the economy and/or the essence of economic science is dealing with the decision making behavior of economic agents in a way for optimal allocation of scarce resources in production, consumption and exchange of economic goods & services activities. And, the four economic resources are land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship. On the other hand, the term economy, in its conception with prosperity, is quite different. For one, in the context of prosperity, there are seven (7) types of economic resources. These are: Money, Food, Clothing, Recreation, Rest, Time and Energy. Moreover, the focus of economy in prosperity is not limited to material satisfaction, but also spiritual acquisition. Therefore, the economics of prosperity entails maximizing wellness of people (communities) through optimal allocation on those mentioned seven (7) dimensions of resources, which can be categorized as material and non-material by their virtues. More importantly, the essence of economics in the context of prosperity is setting standards and/or principles on how people can manage a balanced life, where their material and spiritual needs are better served. This paper tries to characterize ideals of prosperity concept with fundamentals of economic science

This article explores the effects of the recent economic transformations in Laos on Buddhism with regards to large-scale donation rites and the ritual temple economy. An ethnographic case study of a donation of a wealthy business woman from Vientiane for the renovation of a rural temple is discussed as an example of an emerging prosperity Buddhism that reflects increasing competition, rural-urban differences in wealth, and a conjuncture of market and religion. However, the Lao case also exposes some differences from prosperity cults in Thailand and Myanmar that have been researched. Although the donation rite involved advertisement and branding related to the business of the donor, I argue that traditional notions of collective merit-making and other aspects of the moral economy of rural Buddhism are still significant. By discussing the organizational aspects of the ritual, I show that the continuity of these moral economy aspects, such as the limited role of the main donor, and the emphasis on collectivity, are reinforced by a politics of religion still marked by remnants of socialist discourse. I finally argue that the donation rite created a temporary space where social differences between the diverse rural and urban participants were downplayed, but that this could not hide the increasing inequalities and stratifications that now mark much of Laos’ social fabric

This report has been commissioned by the Future Cites Catapult as a collaborative undertaking with Dr Calzada, MACI Innovations and Translokal publishing to research the topic of Smart Infrastructure in nominated Cities in both the UK and Brazil.
Future Cities Catapult is a global centre of excellence for urban innovation and as part of this Collaborative Approach Research & Development work is being delivered to support the UK government Prosperity Fund.
The smart city landscape is broad and complex in nature. And even though there’s an unmistakable need to make urban environments smarter and more liveable, the great majority of cities have to deal with a history of ‘siloed’ approaches, blocking a more integrated and holistic way of approaching urban challenges.
The study commences an explanation and demonstration of the approach taken on how to structure the study and case studies themselves and proceeds to an in-depth review on how both the UK and Brazilian cities such as Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Belfast Sau Paulo, Brasilia and Belo Horizonte have been addressing the smart city theme, by looking into the way they approached the challenge locally.
This research is supported by expert contrast accounts and targeted interviews with key stakeholders in the smart cities arena, to gather insights on methodologies, current practices, and the impact of these approaches in the urban environment.
The final section of the policy explores a fresh new concept of how UK approaches can be applied to
Brazilian Cities and develops a methodology for approaching change.
Successful smart city change programmes must first look to the nature of the recipient city or urban environment to understand the need, issues and opportunities. These are often found in the very essence of the place; its urban culture, nation tradition, heritage, and political landscape as well as any economic drivers/ aspirations, technological capabilities and the dynamics of society itself.
The emphasis on smart cities and technology must be firmly set in the context of the “place”. With this in mind, very rarely will single solutions be found and or developed that can deliver effective change that is applicable to all environments nationally or regionally and therefore a city approach must be adopted.
Smartness must first start with the city not the “smart” and the key objective of smartness must be to foster prosperity. Throughout this policy document these concepts have been critically assessed and developed from first principles into models that define the nature of the thinking and structuring of a successful approach.
The core principles are based on viewing these concepts as “sustainable economic hardware” and “sustainable social software” as often opposing yet critically linked drivers.
The defining output of combining these core principles is that “smartness and prosperity” should be the desired outcome of developing and implementing smart infrastructure strategies not only in Brazil, but in the UK.

Gambling and financial investment have a long shared history, with many convergences and many
moments where each has defined the other as its opposite. In the contemporary Pacific, not least among
evangelical Christians, gambling is often understood as wasteful entertainment and even as an irresponsible
vice. Investment on the other hand is seen as a productive activity for both individuals and
society at large. These moral concerns draw on discourses of proprietorship of the self, of money and of
risk. This paper explores moral attitudes to gambling/investment among middle-class investors in a mass
Ponzi scheme in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and charts new valorizations of risk and investment as
components of the construction of modern ‘financial selves’.

This article follows the initiatives to foster a societal and economic re-focussing on wellbeing and social progress, which appeared after the groundbreaking report of the " Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress " led by Joseph Stiglitz. Departing from the Thesis that wellbeing-orientation is adequate for economic policy making but will not be successful on its one; it is argued that a better measurement of wellbeing and social progress together with a discursively and institutionally anchoring of wellbeing-orientation within the economic governance are needed. A Magic Polygon for wellbeing-oriented economic policy is proposed to link the new paradigm with the wellbeing-indicators. Within a general framework of commonly shared objectives of economic policy, current priorities would become negotiable. This contribution sketches an operational proposal for Austria and presents ideas for a stronger institutional and discursive anchoring of wellbeing-orientation within the economic governance. Finally four entry projects are given as an example of policies which should be undertaken given the current situation within a stronger wellbeing-orientated economic governance.

Researchers and policymakers working on prosperity, happiness and wellbeing in the UK have recently reworked GDP-centred notions of progress and identified community and belonging as major determinants of a good life. The dominant notion of community in most writing on this topic draws on Putnam's work on social capital as measured by trust and/or civic engagement. This approach, however, captures only the social aspect of community, without addressing the symbolic dimension of political discourses and their national and local effects. Using data from Newham, London, this article argues that a narrow focus on social capital obfuscates the complexity of community dynamics, leading to misconceptions about the causes of social fragmentation. In the case of Newham, we show that while survey data on social capital suggests that diversity is detrimental to community life, a more nuanced analysis reveals that it is in fact an important part of community cohesion.

In the political system and in public perception, the well-functioning of economy is frequently equalled to the output of the national economic system. However, during the last decades, this narrow conception of economic prosperity started to erode. This paper is based on a rural prosperity conceptual framework that takes into account the systemic nature and dynamics of interactions and impacts within rural systems through the analysis of an organic agriculture cooperative called Camposeven in the south east of Spain. The focus is on rural prosperity, differences in understanding, related parameters and strategies used by the cooperativeís farming partners to success without following the traditional conventions of economic growth and farm-efficiency. Experience lessons in this paper demonstrate that the " technical-economic " approach of rural prosperity is not sufficient and results emphasize the important role of individuals' behaviour as well as the contexts in which they are involved. The findings point to the increasing relevance of expanding both the theory and practice of rural prosperity approaches in sustainable rural development. This is important in order to enrich the connections between rural prosperity and other concepts such as social capital, innovation, social learning and resilience.

A shortlisted finalist for the 2014 Charles Street Symposium held by the Legatum Institute, this essay argues that the egalitarian and popular democratic passions of modern liberal democracies increases fear in the average citizen, which ultimately leads to prosperity for the society as a whole.

Purpose – Following the successful transition ofArchnet-IJAR to Emerald, the introduction of new process and editorial teams, and the production of the first issue last March (Volume 13, Issue 1), the purpose of this paper is to outline key aspects of the contributions published in this edition of Archnet-IJAR: International
Journal of Architectural Research, Volume 13, Issue 1, July 2019.

Design/methodology/approach – Premised on two generic understandings of built environment research: conceptual frameworks and experimental fieldworks, a classification of topical contents and an identification of approaches within the studies published in this edition, a narrative on evolving interests and themes is developed to outline these undertakings.

Findings – Five themes are identified from 13 papers contributed by 27 researchers from academic institutions in 13 countries and territories. Themes include: complexity and prosperity of informal settlements and slums; east–west dialectics of environmental design research and sustainable urbanism; educating future built environment professionals; grassroots research and design strategies; and performance, perception and behavior.

Originality/value – Understanding and appreciating various research approaches for unveiling key aspects of built environment realities including the spatial and social dimensions would facilitate effective contributions in architectural and urban research. This is coupled with the advancing thematic aspects that enthuse a re-thinking of the key purpose of architectural and urban research while stimulating future research endeavors.

The chapter explores the Brazilian Pentecostal contestation of the role of ‘Mozambican culture’ in the struggle of each Mozambican for transformation in terms of a prosperous life. In this respect, the analysis  particularly focuses on the strong emphasis placed by Pentecostals on 'tomar posse' (taking ownership), which means that a born-again Christian must realize her/his destiny by taking what is hers/his: the world belongs to God and God’s belongings are to be enjoyed. Prosperity, health, and love are essential for human existence, as they are the signs of having accomplished God’s creation. Furthermore, every believer must exercise his/her right to prosper. In the chapter I examine how this central Pentecostal attitude is incorporated by Pentecostal women in the capital Maputo, where the number of adherents is the highest in the country and nearly 75 percent of these are women. I argue that a particular interaction between Brazilian Pentecostal pastors and gendered socio-economic and cultural dynamics in Maputo shapes life as an enterprise in which converts must take a pro-active attitude, at any cost, in order to ensure a prosperous life.

Dimanakah lokus yang hendak dituju pemerintah sebagai personifikasi negara dalam semangat membuncah lewat slogan kerja, kerja dan kerja? Jefferson & Gandhi (1982) mengingatkan kembali pada kita dalam ide dasar republikan, bahwa distrik dan desa adalah tempat yang sesungguhnya dari kemauan rakyat dan kesejahteraan umum (res dan publicum). Pikiran itu setidaknya menunjukkan desa sebagai lokus utama untuk dua alasan pokok, yaitu sarana menyerap kemauan rakyat yang sesungguhnya, serta tempat dimana kesejahteraan yang menjadi tujuan umum suatu negara berakhir dengan sendirinya. Apakah kemauan rakyat ada di tempat lain semacam kota? Jawabannya pasti ada, namun kemauan di tingkat semacam itu lebih memperlihatkan daftar keinginan ketimbang kebutuhan ril. Masyarakat kota terlalu politis sehingga sulit membedakan antara kebutuhan sejati dengan keinginan warga kota. Kota sendiri memiliki ciri masyarakat yang cenderung mandiri, dinamis, individualis, rasional, atau tempat berkumpulnya masyarakat yang berhasil meningkatkan kualitas diri menjadi satuan masyarakat hukum yang memiliki kesejahteraan ekonomi lebih baik dibanding masyarakat di desa pada umumnya. Dalam konteks itu, mereka yang tersisa di desa boleh jadi merupakan kelompok masyarakat yang bukan saja belum mampu memperbaharui diri secara individual maupun kolektif, kemungkinan lain terdapat keinginan kuat dalam mempertahankan budaya yang diyakini turun-temurun. Bagaimanapun Kota memiliki peran strategis dalam mewadahi transisi masyarakat desa yang homogen kedalam masyarakat kota berciri heterogen. Pada akhirnya desa menyisakan sekelompok masyarakat yang sulit dan lamban mengalami transformasi kecuali lewat rekayasa sosial yang membutuhkan kesabaran. Kesadaran itu tampak memiliki sandaran sosiologis jika dihubungkan dengan ide yang diletakkan Mc Iver (1995) bahwa unit mikro dalam ukuran entitas semacam itu merupakan lokus pembiakan bagi tumbuh-kembangnya suatu pemerintahan dalam skala luas (negara). Simpulnya, desa merupakan akar bagi tumbuh dan berkembangnya suatu pemerintahan dari yang paling primitif hingga kompleks seukuran negara. Jika demikian semangat dan keyakinan kita, maka persoalan mendasar dari upaya menggapai titik kesejahteraan utama sebenarnya berada di Desa atau setidak-tidaknya di tingkat Distrik, bukan semata-mata di Kota yang merupakan akumulasi dari tahapan perkembangan desa yang kompleks. Status desa yang otonom secara kultural dan ekonomi semestinya membuka peluang bagi semua departemen di Jakarta untuk berkantor di desa. Dengan demikian style blusukan yang menjadi icon Kabinet Kerja kali ini benar-benar dapat menghujam ke titik yang paling konkrit, bukan sekedar sidak dari bilik ke bilik. Desa dan distrik sejauh ini merana sekalipun tujuan penyerahan kewenangan yang luas, nyata dan bertanggungjawab pada daerah diarahkan untuk desa. Faktanya kesejahteraan cenderung berpusar di jenjang pemerintah lokal (trickl up effect). Kita maklum bahwa pemerintah ingin agar semua program yang di desain langsung menerpa desa, sayangnya konstruksi negara dalam bingkai kesatuan bermotif desentralistik tak se-efektif negara ketika melayani desa dalam kerangka kesatuan bercorak sentralistik. Lihat saja bagaimana pengalaman intervensi pemerintah dalam kebijakan BOS, PNPM, BLT, Raskin, Dana Desa, BPJS, KIS dan KIP. Setiap tetesan pundi kesejahteraan yang dialirkan dari pusat ke daerah boleh jadi mengalami penyusutan hingga mengering tak berbekas setibanya di tempat tujuan. Ini masalah klasik namun perlu diperhatikan secara seksama dan kalau perlu dalam tempo yang sesingkat-singkatnya, dimana tata kelola dan kontrol teramat lemah di negeri seluas Amerika dan China. Contoh paling mudah adalah kemuliaan pemerintah memberi subsidi BBM selama ini dimaksudkan agar mereka yang berada di titik terlemah dapat mengubah nasib dengan sendirinya. Faktanya sebagian besar menguap, berceceran di tengah jalan, bahkan salah sasaran. Penguapan melahirkan kekayaan ilegal bagi kelompok tertentu, ceceran membentuk kolusi kuat antara pemegang kuasa dan pemegang modal, sementara kesalahan sasaran menciptakan orang kaya

Μία πρώτη ανάγνωση της ανταγωνιστικής θέσης της Ελλάδας στην παγκοσμιοποιημένη κοινότητα του σήμερα.  Τα στοιχεία προέρχονται κυρίως από τiις ετήσιες Εκθέσεις του World Economic Forum σχετικά με τον Παγκόσμιο Δείκτη Ανταγωνιστικότητας (ΠΔΑ) .

ABSTRACT Competitiveness is a broad concept applied to many fields, especially economics. The study of tourism competitiveness has focused on factors that can enhance the prosperity of a destination. One of these factors is innovation. Innovation makes a destination’s enterprises more advanced and efficient, therefore, more productive. The first studies about innovation in technology, consider it an incipient concept based only on activities such as internet use, but it has evolved into a wider concept changing the way of doing business. Innovation is not only an enhancer of competitiveness, it is a more relevant concept; it can be a generator of prosperity on its own because innovation in every aspect will provide a better quality of life for the destination.

Underlying all economic activity is the concept of prosperity. Yet, there is little, if any reference in conventional economics to the word “prosperity”. Everyone seeks to be prosperous. In doing so we affect the Planet we live on. Do we give much thought and consideration to this concept? How may we seek prosperity without damaging the source of our subsistence and harming our fellow inhabitants of this planet? What we believe prosperity to be will shape how we act.  This paper will seek to establish a simple, true and useful understanding of this essential concept. It will look at the origin of the word and ask how we may develop this understanding which is needed to deal with the current challenges we face. It uses simple diagrammatical concepts to show how the desire for prosperity may lead us to true freedom and in doing so we may be best equipped to take proper care of the world we live in.
