This article presents a study that investigated students' attitudes toward both online and face-to-face English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes. The study was conducted with students of mechanical engineering and engineering management after the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions that allowed face-to-face teaching to resume. The study aimed to determine students' preferences for online or face-to-face classes and the reasons behind their opinions. It also aimed to compare the difficulty and interest level of EAP classes with other courses and gather qualitative feedback on how online EAP classes could be improved. The study was primarily quantitative, but it had a qualitative segment, too. The results indicated that students generally prefer face-to-face to online classes, although only marginally. Participants appreciated the ability to work from home and revisit recorded lessons in online classes, while face-to-face classes were valued for better communication with the instructor and collaboration with peers. English was viewed as better suited to online teaching than other courses, but students were hesitant to participate openly during classes. Most respondents suggested more active participation from students and mandatory attendance as ways of improving the online teaching process.

Most translation tasks in the entertainment industry involve multiple modes of communication, i.e. they are multimodal, not solely language-based. A translator is expected to analyse, evaluate and transfer each of those modes to render an accurate translation of the source text. This is especially important in films, documentaries, TV and animated shows – multimodal scripts which are being localised for various contexts. An important step in the translation process in the entertainment industry should be the identification of translation errors in the final product which should be based on a proper translation error classification. Given that available translation error classifications rely solely on linguistic modes of communication, the aim of this paper is to propose a multimodal translation error classification which would be based on the multimodality of scripts to be translated and thus provide a reliable tool for the quality check of the final translation product in the entertainment industry. In that way, translators in this industry will be alerted to recognise elements (e.g. tone of voice, facial expressions, proximity, etc.) existing in multimodal scripts where both the source and the target texts as essential parts of the scripts are multimodal products.

Employing the theoretical framework that represents a unique amalgam of the domains of multimodality, intermediality, transmedia storytelling and adaptation, the paper analyses the process of medial transposition of the folk fairy tale Baš-Čelik, primarily into Đorđe Lobačev’s comic book of the same name (1939/1989), and then into Petar Meseldžija’s 2008 illustrated book The Legend of Baš-Čelik (orig. Legenda o Baš-Čeliku). The paper presents verbal and graphic tools used by these authors in adapting the original text from a monomodal into multimodal media, with a special focus on three research directions. The first is the manner in which the compositional structure of the fairy tale is transferred into the comic and the illustrated book, with the aim of assessing the level of fidelity in these adaptations. The second direction is related to the most important narrative and stylistic differences (e.g., language and tone of narration). The third direction deals with the use of certain comics-specific techniques and resources, such as page layout, use of colour for emphasis, representation of speed and motion, and the presence or absence of particular graphic devices (upfixes and pictorial runes). Finally, the adaptations themselves are compared to each other, highlighting the major similarities and differences between them.

The article proposes a multimodal discourse semantics approach to the analysis of video game tutorials that provides a discourse pragmatic analysis of the game canvases in these tutorials. The study mainly builds on linguistic approaches to formal dynamic discourse semantics that have already been successfully applied to other multimodal artefacts. The article will showcase the application of the resulting ‘logic of multimodal discourse interpretation’ to two specific cases of video game tutorials. This will outline particular discourse relations holding between events and segments in the tutorials as distinctive features of this video game genre and show the discursive patterns of these instructions.

The aim of this study is to explore whether multimodality can contribute to the recognition of errors in the translations of animated films. The primary assumption is that the presentation of a multimodal product will yield better results than a monomodal product. Excerpted translations of animated films were presented to a group of English and a group of Serbian language students, once as a monomodal product (transcript) and once as a multimodal product (dubbed video). Besides confirming that the multimodal product facilitates error recognition, the research showed that multimodal analysis may be a proposed approach during the training of translators in Serbia since some of them will be translating animated films in the production and localisation process in the Serbian animated film industry. Two main reasons support this conclusion: (1) a multimodal approach may provide a more accurate transfer of all the layers in an animated film and (2) it guarantees a better quality of the translation of the language in the animated film.

The nature of the mental processes involved in metaphor comprehension has been the focus of debate. Research related to this debate has mainly examined the comprehension of simple nominal metaphors. Here we take an individual-differences approach to examine the comprehension of slightly more complex metaphors, some taken from literary sources, using two types of comprehension tests (selecting an overall interpretation or else selecting a completion). In a series of metaphorcomprehension experiments with college students, we measured both fluid intelligence (using the non-verbal Raven’s Progressive Matrices test) and crystalized verbal intelligence (using a new Semantic Similarities Test). Each measure had a dissociable predictive relationship to metaphor comprehension, at least for those of the more complex literary variety. In Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels (2006), Scott McCloud proposes that the use of specific drawing techniques will enable viewers to reliably deduce different degrees of intensity of the six basic emotions from facial expressions in comics. Furthermore, he suggests that an accomplished comics artist can combine the components of facial expressions conveying the basic emotions to produce complex expressions, many of which are supposedly distinct and recognizable enough to be named. We tested three theses on the construction of extramusical meaning in program music: (1) that some excerpts contain an “inherent” musical structure that facilitates the interpretation aligned with the composer’s intentions; (2) that “onomatopoeia” — musical imitation of natural sounds — is a frequent subclass of this “inherence”; and (3) that providing the title of the piece further facilitates the “proper” interpretation of intended meaning. Two hundred and one students were given six musical stimuli (three based on “inherent” and three on “arbitrary” association) and asked to write a one-sentence description of extramusical meaning associated with the examples. In the first trial, all participants provided descriptions without a suggestion. In the second, they were randomly assigned to three groups, receiving suggestions that were neutral, aligned with the composer’s program, or deliberately worded to contradict this program. ABSTRACT This paper focuses on the basic colour terms, one of the quite well covered topics not only in linguistics, but also in anthropology, physics and psychology, trying to establish a one-way analysis (Serbian to English) which compares and contrasts the metaphorical extensions of the two most basic colour terms, black and white, in Serbian and English. These two terms have been identified as the most basic ones, since they were found to exist even in languages which have only two names for colours. In our analysis, metaphorical extensions were isolated after comparing several Serbian and English dictionaries, and attempts were made at making hypotheses about how these extensions came into being. The study shows that there is a relatively high degree of correspondence between the two compared languages in terms of the existence of underlying conceptual metaphors with black and white serving as source domains.

Полазећи од теоријских оквира В. Ајзнера (Eisner 1985/2008, 1996/2008, 2008), С. Меклауда (McCloud 1993) и Е. Стејнбрука (Stainbrook 2003), у раду се анализирају стрипови Био је то рововски рат (1993/2013) и Проклети рат! (2009/2013) чувеног француског аутора Жака Тардија (Jacques Tardi), као најпознатија дела „девете уметности“ на тему овог, по много чему, значајног глобалног сукоба. На основу установљених поставки Ајзнера и Меклауда, аутори трагају за елементима графичког приповедања и визуелне нарације догађаја у Првом светском рату, са посебним освртом на оне делове који се баве приказом насиља, бесмисла и суровости рата. Принципи анализе дискурса стрипа које је поставио Стејнбрук употребиће се како би се истражили модалитети изражавања и циљеви дискурса који описује ратна збивања. Аутори закључују да примена наведених теоријских сегмената на анализу стрипа о рату показује да се ради о сасвим равноправном медију изражавања, који има могућност да комбинује графички и текстуални материјал како би што реалније изразио комплексну природу рата.

ABSTRACT Osnovni zadatak ovog rada jeste da ispita mogućnosti primene analize diskursa na medij stripa, sa polazištem u dvema većim analizama ovog tipa. Prvo polazište jeste doktorska disertacija E. Stejnbruka (Stainbrook 2003), koja se bazira na Kinivijevoj teoriji diskursa (Kinneavy 1971) i koja nastoji da ispita kako kroz analizu diskursa može da se pristupi (1) odnosu vizuelne i tekstualne komponente u stripu, (2) modalitetima izražavanja u okviru stripova (naraciji, opisu, klasifikaciji, itd.) i (3) ciljevima koji mogu da se ostvare kroz ovaj medij. S druge strane, M. Saraseni (Saraceni 2000) dotiče problem analize diskursa na više mesta u sveobuhvatnoj analizi jezika u stripu i bavi se problemima kakvi su semiotička sličnost reči i slika u stripu, njihova kohezija, naratologija stripa i pedagoška primena stripova. Kroz određeni broj ilustracija, u radu će se prikazati kako se date teorijske postavke mogu primeniti na analizu nekoliko vrsta stripa, što može doprineti rasvetljavanju nekih elemenata komunikacije kroz ovaj medij.

We examined the relationship between metaphor comprehension and verbal analogical reasoning in young adults who were either typically developing (TD) or diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ASD sample was highly educated and high in verbal ability, and closely matched to a subset of TD participants on age, gender, educational background, and verbal ability. Additional TD participants with a broader range of abilities were also tested. Each participant solved sets of verbal analogies and metaphors in verification formats, allowing measurement of both accuracy and reaction times. Measures of individual differences in vocabulary, verbal working memory, and autistic traits were also obtained. Accuracy for both the verbal analogy and the metaphor task was very similar across the ASD and matched TD groups. However, reaction times on both tasks were longer for the ASD group. Additionally, stronger correlations between verbal analogical reasoning and working memory capacity in the ASD group indicated that processing verbal analogies was more effortful for them. In the case of both groups, accuracy on the metaphor and analogy tasks was correlated. A mediation analysis revealed that after controlling for working memory capacity, the inter-task correlation could be accounted for by the mediating variable of vocabulary knowledge, suggesting that the primary common mechanisms linking the two tasks involve language skills.

Drawing on the work of Forceville (2005, 2006, 2011), who employed linguistic tools in analysing comics, the paper deals with pictorial runes as a specific type of visual information found in comic books. As Kennedy (1982) proposes, pictorial runes are graphic devices used in pictures to modify the literal depictions of objects, intended to convey certain aspects of those objects that are otherwise difficult to depict literally. In comics, they are usually employed to imply various emotions, such as anger, fear, pain, or surprise, and indicate speed or the direction of a moving object, among other things. The present paper investigates whether lexicalized visuo-spatial configurations and/or an explicit reference to a human body part can facilitate the interpretation of unknown idioms by comparing the levels of correct interpretation of unknown English and Serbian idiomatic expressions. Two groups of respondents, American and Serbian engineering students, had the task to interpret literally translated idiomatic expressions from a target language they were not familiar with (Serbian or English). The idioms were divided into three groups: (1) visuo-spatial bodily idioms, (2) bodily idioms only, and (3) non-bodily idioms. The goal was to test whether references to visuo-spatial information and/or parts of the body would help respondents interpret the expressions correctly. Ovaj rad ima za zadatak da pokaže kakav su uticaj različite filozofske ideje imale na razvoj teorije prototipova kao sastavnog dela iskustvenog realizma i jednog od uporišta savremene kognitivne lingvistike. Nakon obrazlaganja osnovnih ideja iskustvenog realizma, rad najpre razmatra prototipove u okviru osnovnih pristupa kategorizaciji u mišljenju i jeziku, a zatim daje pregled ideja Imanuela Kanta, Edmunda Huserla i Ludviga Vitgenštajna, sa posebnim osvrtom na Vitgenštajnova Filozofska istraživanja, te Plavu i Braon svesku, tačnije na njegova razmatranja povezana sa problemima kategorizacije, poput pojma jezičkih igara i ideje o porodičnim sličnostima.

Ovaj rad ima za zadatak da ispita postupke prevodilaca pri prevođenju glagola to go sa engleskog na srpski jezik, sa posebnim osvrtom na prevođenje značenja koja se mogu razmotriti iz perspektive kognitivnosemantičkih teorija – teorije slikovnih shema i teorije pojmovne metafore. Rad će kroz analizu rečničkog značenja i paralelnog prevodnog korpusa sagledati doslovna i metaforička značenja glagola to go i povezati ih sa pojmovnim metaforama koje ovaj glagol može da manifestuje, dok će se određene slikovne sheme upotrebiti u cilju razjašnjavanja pojedinih značenja i njihovog prevođenja sa izvornog na ciljni jezik. U krajnjoj instanci, rad pruža i nekoliko zaključaka povezanih sa konceptualizacijom kretanja kod govornika dva jezika.

It may be a bit surprising to find a review of a book not directly related to ESP/EAP studies published in a journal explicitly dealing with the exploration of the topics relevant to the field of English for Specific/Academic Purposes. However, as ESP research in its more than fifty years long history has always been influenced by and has relied on the current applied linguistic theories, the book Figurative Language, Genre and Register by Alice Deignan, Jeannette Littlemore and Elena Semino deserves to be presented to ESP Today's readership, especially to those scholars and researchers who tend to examine scientific discourses of the underlying sciences taught at tertiary level institutions throughout the world from a cognitive linguistic standpoint and who may find it beneficial to become familiar with a new research framework presented in it. The main goal of this paper is to check whether Prototype Theory can be applied to the analysis of the English verbs of motion. More precisely, the paper attempts to apply various elements of S.G. Pulman’s (1983) model of prototype effect testing to a semantic analysis of the English motion verbs (as defined and selected in Miller 1972 and Levin 1993). The methods of analysis include prototypicality rating tests previously used by psychologists (Rosch 1975a, b, Rosch and Lloyd 1978, inter alia), frequency tests and corpus data analysis. The results show that a semantic analysis of verbs based on Prototype Theory is possible, though it has certain constraints. On the whole, there is a steady semantic pattern related to the obtained category structure of motion verbs: the more generic verbs seem to be closer to the centre and, as we move towards the periphery, the verbs tend to be more specific.

This article (1) analyzes the computer game Braid with regard to the TIME IS SPACE/MOTION metaphor and the multimodal approach, (2) links the possibi-lities of such a study to the existing studies of temporality in video games, and (3) explores the link between the game’s narrative and its gameplay mechanics based on the TIME IS SPACE/MOTION metaphor. The theoretical section briefly overviews conceptual metaphor theory, the TIME IS SPACE/MOTION metaphor, multimodality, CMT in video games, time in video games, and several studies related to the game. The main section investigates Braid so as to evaluate the ways in which the TIME IS SPACE/MOTION metaphor operates within each of the game worlds and how this affects the narrative and the gameplay. The complex, unconventional relations existing among time, space, motion, and causality result in a unique coupling between the narrative and the use of the TIME IS SPACE/MOTION metaphor.

Here we present a preregistered systematic review and meta-analysis of studies assessing the comprehension of idioms and proverbs in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as compared to typically developing (TD) individuals. The paper endeavors to investigate the conceptual metaphor awareness via a psycholinguistic experiment done by Serbian grammar school and EFL students. The analysis is carried to determine the extent to which the students are aware of the differences between metaphor identification processes in the two languages and whether, in an attempt to offer satisfactory solutions, they resort to applying the mother tongue knowledge in case of not being able to interpret foreign language metaphors. The psycholinguistic experiment conducted in this research is composed of 28 metaphorical and non-metaphorical sentences in Serbian and English taken from the available corpora. We examined the relationship between metaphor comprehension and verbal analogical reasoning in young adults who were either typically developing (TD) or diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ASD sample was highly educated and high in verbal ability, and closely matched to a subset of TD participants on age, gender, educational background, and verbal ability. Additional TD participants with a broader range of abilities were also tested. Each participant solved sets of verbal analogies and metaphors in verification formats, allowing measurement of both accuracy and reaction times. Measures of individual differences in vocabulary, verbal working memory, and autistic traits were also obtained. Accuracy for both the verbal analogy and the metaphor task was very similar across the ASD and matched TD groups. However, reaction times on both tasks were longer for the ASD group. Additionally, stronger correlations between verbal analogical reasoning and working memory capacity in the ASD group indicated that processing verbal analogies was more effortful for them. In the case of both groups, accuracy on the metaphor and analogy tasks was correlated. A mediation analysis revealed that after controlling for working memory capacity, the inter-task correlation could be accounted for by the mediating variable of vocabulary knowledge, suggesting that the primary common mechanisms linking the two tasks involve language skills.

Figurative language processing impairments in autism have been widely demonstrated, and have been considered a defining feature of autism. Studies in this area often consider different types of figurative language together, and less attention has been paid to identifying the factors that might contribute to difficulties in processing specific types of figurative language. Here we present a preregistered systematic review and meta-analysis of studies assessing the comprehension of idioms and proverbs in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as compared to typically developing (TD) individuals. Idioms are widely used multi-word figurative expressions, which are understood by using contextual information. Proverbs are a related type of fixed, figurative, formulaic expression in a sentential form, typically linked with wisdom. Idioms and proverbs represent forms of figurative language which are more conventionalized and frequently opaquer than metaphors, pointing to a unique way that they are processed in conversational contexts. Our analysis encompassed a total of 11 studies from 10 papers (involving 235 autistic and 224 TD individuals), which met our inclusion criteria (the ASD and TD groups were matched on both chronological age and intelligence). The analysis of accuracy data revealed a group difference favouring the TD over the ASD group, with a medium effect size, and no indication of a publication bias. Participants’ age was unrelated to the magnitude of group differences, but there was a trend for smaller group differences in the case of participants with higher (verbal) intelligence. We discuss these findings with reference to theories related to the nature of figurative language impairments in autism.

This chapter presents results of an empirical case study based on annotating an open-world video game and creating datasets in order to describe the semiotic elements of this video game at work. Following the procedure of identifying elements and semiotic modes on canvases of real-time video games presented in Bateman et al. (2017b), it provides a semiotic inventory of Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar North 2013) so as to allow a systematic empirical analysis of the ways in which various semiotic elements are employed in the game’s main story missions. This analysis of the combinations of multimodal elements across gameplay stages shows the diversity of features that structure our experience of the game and guide us within the open world. In particular, it shows mission-related and gameplay-related instructions as well as the specific result that many of these instructions last until the very end of the game. Along with several other findings, this reveals some new facets of complex mainstream game design.

The paper aims to provide an overview of the development and changes in the courses at the Department of English in Niš, at the BA and MA level, as well as at the PhD level (in philology, Faculty of Philosophy, Niš), related to different linguistic approaches to the study of meaning (construction) and human cognition. These courses included in the curricula were initially influenced by the ideas stemming from the philosophy of mind and cognitive linguistics, and later by psycholinguistic research. We begin the paper with the general overview of the courses and we emphasize the main contributions to their development. Then we address in more detail some of the most important theoretical concepts which include the following: meaning construction, categorization, context, and a general overview of the main ideas in cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics. We also stress the benefits of such a comprehensive approach for the students, and the thereby presented possibilities for further investigation.

The study tries to evaluate two approaches to conceptualisation by testing how Serbian respondents interpret literally translated English idioms. The development of concepts is a pressing issue in cognitive science and the importance of visuo-spatial relations on the one hand and embodiment on the other in this process is particularly stressed, depending on the approach. We have presented 90 undergraduate Serbian students with no formal training in English with literally translated English idiomatic expressions and asked them to guess their meanings. The goal was to investigate whether the expressions would be properly interpreted and whether there would be differences in the degree of correct interpretation between the groups of idioms offered. The paper is a contrastive study that tries to explore various metaphoric and extended uses of the verbs that are considered to be hyponyms of the generic vision verbs gledati in Serbian and look in English. These verbs, being classified as verbs of basic bodily perception, are a very likely source domain in the process of metaphorization and other forms of extended usage. The main goal of the paper is to compare the ways in which verbs denoting various kinds of visual perception shift or have shifted their primary meanings, as well as the ways in which they get joined by other, 'non-visual' meanings in Serbian and English. It will also explore a number of typically non-visual verbs which attain visual meaning in the process of metaphorization. The verbs are divided into semantic groups and analysed one by one. The English-Serbian Contrastive Lexicology is primarily aimed at philology students, English and Serbian linguists and other scholars, translators, proof-readers and all those interested in contrastive linguistics. The authors’ aim was to take a fresh perspective on the English and Serbian lexicon and the related aspects of the two languages. The book provides the basics of con-trastive linguistics from a lexicological viewpoint, information on dictionar-ies and lexicological companions of English and Serbian, overviews of syn-onymy, antonymy, homonymy and hyponymy, as well as contrastive ap-proaches to polysemy, dictionary meanings, modal verbs and numerous tenets related to their translation from English into Serbian. Furthermore, the book also encompasses chapters contrasting colour terms, motion verbs, verbs of visual perceptions. The remaining chapters describe Angli-cisms and Anglo-Serbian words, false friends, slang and jargon words, as well as phraseological units in English and Serbian. Each chapter includes a set of study questions, which can stir interest for the future approaches to the topics tackled within this book.

Књига Енглеско-српска контрастивна лексикологија намењена је студентима филолошке оријентације, англистима, србистима, пре-водиоцима, лекторима и свима који су заинтересовани за контра-стивна језичка проучавања. Циљ ауторâ је да се из нове перспективе сагледају лексика енглеског и српског језика, али и различита лекси-колошка питања. Ова књига садржи основне поставке контрастира-ња језика из лексиколошког угла, информације о најважнијим речни-цима и лексиколошким приручницима енглеског и српског језика, објашњења специфичности синонима, антонима, хомонима и хипо-нима у енглеском и српском језику, из контрастивног угла приступ-љено је и полисемији, речничким обрадама значења у речницима, мо-далним глаголима и финесама у њиховом превођењу са енглеског је-зика на српски језик. Затим, контрастирани су појмови коjима се и-менују боје, глаголи кретања и глаголи визуелне перцепције. Посебно поглавље посвећено је англицизмима и англосрпским речима, лаж-ним паровима, те жаргонизмима и фразеологизмима у енглеском и српском језику. This book is concerned with the investigation of the lexicon of the English language. It covers topics such as the historical development of the lexicon, social stratification, encoding in specialized lexicons, stylistic peculiarities of the lexemes, complexity of lexical meaning, multi-word lexemes, etc. The book is intended to introduce students of EFL to the study of words and lexicon by presenting the major achievements and concepts of Lexicology and related linguistic fields. Furthermore, it is also designed as a workbook in Lexicology to help students gain a good working knowledge of the lexical resources available in the English language. In each section, theoretical is-sues are covered to give the students the foundation to proceed with the Exercises assigned in the English vocabulary. The theoretical material is de-signed to give insight into the basic theory of lexically-oriented language studies. Ovo istraživanje započeto je kao kontrastivna analiza leksičkog značenja i upotrebe glagola ljudskog kretanja u engleskom i srpskom jeziku, sa polazištem u kognitivnosemantičkim teorijama – pre svega teoriji prototipova, teoriji slikovnih shema, teoriji pojmovne metafore i analogiji, ali i kognitivnosemantičkim modelima koji se sa njima mogu dovesti u vezu – teorijom idealizovanih kognitivnih modela (semantičkih okvira), teorijom mentalnih prostora i teorijom pojmovnog sažimanja. Glagoli ljudskog kretanja ograničeni su na one koji opisuju prirodno kretanje (bez upotrebe prevoznih sredstava ili pomagala) na kopnu i u vodi, te i ono koje dovodi do promene položaja tela u prostoru. Prvo poglavlje uključuje pregled dosadašnjih istraživanja ove vrste glagola i aktuelnih kognitivnosemantičkih konstrukata, sa posebnim osvrtom na sadašnji status teorije prototipova. U okviru ovog dela ispituju se još i dosadašnji pokušaji primene teorije prototipova na analizu značenja glagola, pa tako i nekih glagola ljudskog kretanja, kao i veze između glagola kretanja i ostalih kognitivnosemantičkih teorija. Narednu celinu istraživanja (drugo i treće poglavlje) čine empirijsko ispitivanje moguće prototipičnosti glagola ljudskog kretanja iz dva jezika i detaljni opis značenja odabranih glagola u engleskom i srpskom, koji se prevashodno razmatraju iz ugla kognitivnosemantičkih teorija. Izbor konkretnih glagola koji su ušli u opis sproveden u okviru ovog poglavlja zavisio je od rezultata empirijskih procedura vezanih za prototipičnost. Ovaj rad ne pruža semantički opis svih glagola ljudskog kretanja u pomenuta dva jezika, već se detaljniji opis koncentriše na grupe od po dvadeset najtipičnijih glagola kretanja u jednom i drugom. Četvrto poglavlje posvećeno je dokazivanju pretpostavke da glagoli bliži centru prototipičnog ljudskog kretanja u engleskom jeziku (L1), psihološki gledano, imaju jače prevodne veze sa odgovarajućim glagolima u srpskom jeziku (L2). Pretpostavlja se da se to na prevođenje van datog konteksta odražava tako što se njihovi korespondenti ređe menjaju. Na taj način se ovi glagoli razlikuju od onih na periferiji, kod kojih nema stalnih pandana, već oni mogu mnogo više da zavise od odluka prevodilaca. Dokazivanje ove tvrdnje vršiće se kroz testiranje prevođenja glagola kod ispitanika (sadašnjih i budućih prevodilaca) putem upitnika i van konteksta. U petom poglavlju, koje sadrži analizu paralelnog književnog korpusa (prevođenje u kontekstu), ispitivaće se unutrašnja struktura značenja pojedinačnih glagola kroz prizmu izbora prevodnih ekvivalenata i korespondenata, uz analizu prevođenja kako doslovne tako i metaforičke upotrebe glagola ljudskog kretanja, pri čemu se prototipičnost može sagledati i na nivou polisemije. Šesto poglavlje izlazi iz okvira izučavanja glagola i bavi se analizom fenomena fiktivnog kretanja na korpusu srpskog jezika. Završno, sedmo, poglavlje sumira rezultate istraživanja i donosi relevantne zaključke. --- Language and Motion: Cognitive Semantic Studies: This study represents a cognitive semantic analysis of the lexical meaning of verbs of human motion in English and Serbian, and the process of their translation from English to Serbian with three main aims: (1) the first aim of the study is to provide an overview of the existing analyses of verbs of motion in English and Serbo-Croatian literature, offer a detailed linguistic description of prototype theory and other cognitive semantic models, and analyse the existing approaches to verbs from the perspective of prototype theory; (2) the second aim of the study is to compare the ways of conceptualizing and categorizing verbs of human motion in English and Serbian from the perspective of cognitive semantic theories, which included an attempt to apply prototype theory to the categorization of verbs of motion and a section trying to apply other cognitive semantic theories to their description; (3) the third aim is to seek for translation correspondents when translating from English into Serbian by means of respondents (with no context) and using a corpus (within a context) and checking these results against the list of possible prototypicality, having in mind the need to retain both literal and metaphorical meaning when translating.
