Care for Christian unity is part of the nature of the Church. Many years after the ecumenical movement began, signs of disappointment are appearing. The doctrinal dialogues and official meetings are still taking place, but spiritual and pastoral ecumenism is increasingly needed. It manifests itself not only in joint prayers but also in an actual exchange of spiritual gifts, pastoral inspirations and cooperation in many areas of the church and social life. New aspects of such ecumenism have appeared. They take the form of various spiritual trends going beyond the boundaries of churches and communities (prayers, music, spiritual gifts) as well as a search for sources and guidelines for spiritual life that other traditions can offer. In particular, the new shape of ecumenism may be seen in Evangelical and Pentecostal communities. Therefore, the broadly understood Catholic charismatic renewal has a special place in the work for Christian unity. People must walk together, accompany one a...

Contemporary times are the kairós of grace and Pope Francis is its prophet who gives an example of how to be a person of mercy by his words and actions. His teaching Benedict XVI. Another of its important aspects is its being grounded in humanism, human sensitivity and experience. In this way, spreading the truth about mercy carries a strong message and is an answer to the needs of contemporary people. Being the heart of the Gospel, acts of mercy are the center of life and mission of the Church. Thus, the announcement of The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, a time to experience God’s mercy through people, to show mercy towards one’s neighbors and to make people conscious about the necessity of mercy, is not a surprise. Mercy is one of the main motifs of Francis’ teaching. It covers topics such as: mercy as the key to understand Christianity, theological foundations of the truth about mercy, various dimensions of mercy, signs of mercy and mercy as present in the everyday life of the C...

An issue which is of particular importance in the teaching of pope Francis is the reflection on the role of the family in the process of evangelization and the formation of faith. The starting point here is a proper anthropology (the complementarity of man and woman, the appropriate roles in the family) and theological foundations (the experience of God, family rooted in the grace of the sacrament of matrimony). The awareness of this foundation is indispensable in the context of the difficulties and dangers affecting contemporary families. These negative influences include, above all, consumerism, materialism, a godless lifestyle, modern idols, social and economic problems, as well as ideologies attacking the family and affecting the social shape of reality. From such a perspective, it becomes even more necessary to highlight the key challenges facing the family. It is therefore a school of humanity, spiritual and ecclesial life, social life and evangelization. The family should be ...

A positive, Christian understanding is necessary in the discussion about human sexuality and sexual liberation. However, it cannot be limited to presenting the moral evaluation of sexual activities. A deep doctrinal foundation is needed. This should include: (1) gender identity based on the fact of creation, (2) physical and spiritual, earthly and eternal unity all being the realization of the Christological (incarnational) model. Accepting this attitude leads to the constructive response to the challenges of contemporary world. The claim of integration of all aspects of humanity and accepting the relation between corporeality and spirituality overcomes sexualization and reduction of sexuality to just the physical act, enslavement of the body and devaluation of sexuality and sexual activities and the suggestion that angelism could be an ideal of human maturity. The Christological model presumes harmony and integrity of each person.W dyskusji o seksualności człowieka oraz postępujący...

Wiele miejsca w swoich wypowiedziach poświęcił on refleksji eklezjologicznej, uwzględniając wymiar doktrynalny i pastoralny. Ukazana więc została natura i struktura Kościoła, wielość powołań, ...

Nowadays, more and more is said about so called pentecostalisation of Christianity. It may be observed in the development of neopentecostal congregations and Churches and also in the influence of those communities on traditional Churches, including the Catholic Church. The value of this phenomenon is still discussed. Supporters of the accusation of pentecostalisation see it as a root of destructive tendencies for the Church and a way of blurring the differences between denominations. Opponents of the accusation see the pentecostalisation as an exchange of the spiritual gifts, although they do not negate the mistakes made in some communities. The article joins in this discussion, focusing especially on the opinions of Polish theologians. The author is convinced that openness to new aspects of spirituality and religiousness, as well as forms of existence or organization of the Church does not stand in the opposition to the Tradition. Since the idea of continuity of the Catholic identi...

Kościół ukazany w Evangelii gaudium to wspólnota ewangelizująca i wciąż ewangelizowana, a podstawowa jej opcja to zaangażowanie misyjne. Dotyczy to różnych wymiarów – pasterze i wierni, kobiety i mężczyźni, rodziny, młodzież, diecezje i parafie. Szczególne znacznie przypisuje małym...

In the context of changes in a noticeable religious crisis, the following questions arise: In what way does(not) the religious language lead to the experience of God and salvation? Is it possible to transfer the most important (and deepest) doctrinal truths without depleting the wealth of their content? What to do to make the Revelation remain not only in the realm of intellectual cognition? Teaching of the Church, contemporary theology and pastoral care practitioners give the answer to the above questions. The starting point is the fact that the preaching of the revealed truths should be set in the context of the goal, which is: man’s salvation, and experience of a new life. The evangelization is not the proclamation of belief and of some philosophy of life, but is the call, embedded in the God’s Word and action, to accept the gift of the Good News. In this respect, one should not separate the proclamation of the kerygma from the ecclesial context and charismatic one. Only faith, t...

Today’s times exhibit the important transformations in Polish christianity. It’s easy to see a leaving from the faith transmitted by the tradition and customs (folk faith). It’s not always the change in direction the faith chosen and consciously experienced. Some catholics do not practise the faith, limiting it to external rites which have more to do with a culture than a real faith (rites Christmas or Easter). It’s true a lof of catholics or other christians (orthodox, lutherans, reformed) limit their faith to piety’s rites without the connecting with their life (their faith is Sunday service only). In the Catholic Church you may have noticed two trends. First there are misusages in folk piety, many a time deformed theologically. Second trend, ever more increasing in Poland and other Catholic countries, it’s the charismatic and evangelistic renewal of the Church, often connected with pentecostal experiences. It is associated with the charismatic awakening in the Catholic Church aft...

In the reality of charismatic communities there are some controversial matters that need to be evaluated. The main criterion of the evaluation is the Word of God and theological analysis. Among many opinions that evoke doubts are overemphasis of healing, demonic influence, so called intergenerational sin and charismania. Apart from that, there are some phenomena during prayers in charismatic communities that are questionable on the pastoral grounds, e.g. so called resting in the Spirit, speaking in tongues, crying and laughter, some practices connected with the prayer of liberation. What is necessary is the proper biblical and theological formation of the congregation so that it is able to accept God’s signs, but not to be focused on them

The Second Vatican Council became an important light for the Church in its inner revival and in focusing on the multidimensional world. It is expressed in 4 constitutions, 9 decrees and 3 declarations. The C onstitution Lumen gentium presents the C hurch using the following categories: the mystery, the sacrament of salvation, The People of God, the divine-human reality, hierarchical and charismatic structure, various states on the way to the eschatological fulfillment, where Mary is the icon of believers. The Council also showed the important role of the laity in the identity of the C hurch. This new vision was not only a cosmetic change of the form of expression of the content of faith, but a new understanding of the Church, rooted in the Bible and the patristic teaching. At the same time some questions demand a further deepening and defining: the relationship between the Petrine Office and the college of bishops, the collegiality of bishops, the relationship between the office and...

The Second Vatican Council prepared the Church for the requirements of the present and, above all, it began the work of multidimensional renewal (biblical, liturgical, spiritual, structural and pastoral). A particular feature of post-Conciliar Catholicism is also the greater involvement of lay people in the mission of the Church. The new Catholic movements and communities that renew the Church in accordance with their character and vocation are indispensable in this process. An important reality is the Charismatic Renewal (not identified with a single movement), gradually recognized by the Church and appreciated by pastors. An important voice was Saint John Paul II’s teaching who in his speeches and texts showed the directions of the renewal of the Church, also those happening through numerous groups of the Renewal in the Holy Spirit. In this context, John Paul II’s observations expressed during many meetings with Catholic charismatics are extremely valuable. The Pope pointed to the...
