This research uses a political geography, perspective to examine the diffusion of democratic norms and practices across time and space. It encompasses the period since 1946, but is part of a larger project that looks back to the emrgence,of the modern,nation-state beginning with the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and covers the subsequent waves of democratizati on, including the century,

Electrospinning is a process in which solid fibers are produced from a polymeric fluid stream (solution or melt) delivered through a millimeter-scale nozzle. This article uses the stability theory described in the previous article to develop a quantitative method for predicting when electrospinning occurs. First a method for calculating the shape and charge density of a steady jet as it

Light and carbon are two essential signals influencing plant growth and development. Little is known about how carbon and light signaling pathways intersect or influence one another to affect gene expression. Microarrays are used to investigate carbon and light signaling interactions at a genome-wide level in Arabidopsis thaliana. A classification system, 'InterAct Class', is used to classify genes on the basis of their expression profiles. InterAct classes and the genes within them are placed into theoretical models describing interactions between carbon and light signaling. Within InterAct classes there are genes regulated by carbon (201 genes), light (77 genes) or through carbon and light interactions (1,247 genes). We determined whether genes involved in specific biological processes are over-represented in the population of genes regulated by carbon and/or light signaling. Of 29 primary functional categories identified by the Munich Information Center for Protein Sequen...
The phenomenological predictions of the Gronau-Johnson-Schechter ansatz on the quark mass matrices with maximal CP violations for four generations of quarks are presented. The main results are: (i) the b'-quark (charge - 1/3 fourth... more
The phenomenological predictions of the Gronau-Johnson-Schechter ansatz on the quark mass matrices with maximal CP violations for four generations of quarks are presented. The main results are: (i) the b'-quark (charge - 1/3 fourth generation quark) has to be quite light (m b' 60 ...
The fermion mass matrices with the maximal mass hierarchy and calculability are derived and presented. One of them is applicable to the charged lepton sector and can produce the huge hierarchy ratio, me/m τ⋍ 1 3500, from the smallest... more
The fermion mass matrices with the maximal mass hierarchy and calculability are derived and presented. One of them is applicable to the charged lepton sector and can produce the huge hierarchy ratio, me/m τ⋍ 1 3500, from the smallest input parameter of 1 40. The ...
