Con frecuencia, Aristoteles hace suya una idea predominante en la ciencia del momento para luego aportasuna serie de argumentos en su defensa. Este caso se da en la cuestion del vacio, expuesta en Fisica IV.8, donde niega su existencia, como lo hacia la mayoria de sus contemporaneos. Algunos de los argumentos que aduce se basan en la funcion del medio atravesado por el movil’. Cuando el medio esta en reposo y, aun mas, cuando se desplaza en sentido opuesto al movil, frena o disminuye la velocidad de este movil. Para atravesar medios distintos -el ejemplo menciona el aire y el aguaun mismo movil necesita tiempos distintos, cuya proporcion es identica a la que guardan entre si las densidades o “espesores” de los medios. Ahora bien, no cabe proporcionalidad alguna entre el vacio y cualquier otro medio, puesto que el vacio no tiene densidad. Since 1980 we knew that Hasan Hanafi (1935-2021) had a lifelong project that he described as a triangle. The longest side of the triangle is made by his studies on the Islamic heritage and, in particular, on the ʿIlm usūl al-fiqh, The science of the fundamentals of source law. Another side is built by his analysis and criticism of the Western Heritage. The third side concerns true "reality", and for H. Hanafi reality is the Koran. The article examines his book devoted to this issue: it was his last book.

Três tendências principais do pensamento islâmico – a teologia racional, a filosofia e o sufismo – desenvolveram-se na Península Ibérica durante o domínio árabe. Todas elas tiveram origem no Leste Islâmico e incorporaram pensadores judeus que viviam em al-Andalus. As relações entre essas tendências foram por vezes conflituosas; mas também foram positivas no caso de pensadores que procuraram harmonizar a filosofia e o sufismo (Avempace e Ibn Tufail) ou a filosofia e a teologia rcional (Averróis e Maimônides).
