O livro é fruto de pesquisa de cinco anos de Pós-Doutorado da pesquisadora Mariana Ribeiro da Silva Tavares junto ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes da Escola de Belas Artes (EBA/UFMG) com bolsa PNPD-CAPES. Na primeira parte, “Da memória para a História”, conhecemos a luta inicial de estudantes mulheres para a criação da Escola; a conquista da sede própria no Campus/Pampulha (1972); a criação do mestrado (1995) e do doutorado em Artes (2006); a ampliação da Escola a partir do programa Reuni (Programa de Apoio a Planos de Reestruturação e Expansão das Universidades Federais) em 2008, dentre outras atividades importantes para a compreensão do percurso histórico.

Na primeira parte – Histórias da Animação – os capítulos percorrem aspectos históricos, como o relato do animador Marcos Magalhães sobre sua experiência como coordenador do primeiro Núcleo de Animação do Brasil em 1985, no Centro Técnico Audiovisual da Embrafilme, CTAV – RJ, até a criação do Festival Anima Mundi; ou a relação histórica entre animação e documentário presente em filmes pioneiros como The Sinking of the Lusitania (1918) do cartunista estadunidense Winsor McCay; ou ainda, Super Drags (2018), primeira animação original Netflix totalmente brasileira que é abordada no contexto do mercado de nicho. A segunda parte – Processos e Técnicas – traz artigo sobre o Movimento criativo na animação de personagem, tema ainda pouco abordado pela pesquisa científica no país; sobre a singularidade gráfica no desenho do animador Marcelo Marão e sobre um percurso histórico e procedimentos sobre filmes criados diretamente na película, dentre outros textos. This book presents recent brazilian researches on Animation Cinema and its interfaces with other artistic languages, especially digital arts. In the first part - Animation Stories - the chapters cover historical aspects, such as animator Marcos Magalhães account of his experience as coordinator of the first Animation Center of Brazil in 1985, at Embrafilme's Audiovisual Technical Center, CTAV - RJ, until the creation from Anima Mundi Festival; or the historical relationship between animation and documentary in pioneering films such as The Sinking of the Lusitania (1918) by USA cartoonist Winsor McCay; or Super Drags (2018), the first fully Brazilian original Netflix animation. The second part - Processes and Techniques - brings an article about the Creative Movement in character animation, a topic still little investigated by scientific research in Brazil; about the graphic singularity in the drawing of the animator Marcelo Marão and about a historical background and procedures in films created directly on film, among other texts. In the third part - Technological Poetics - visual artist Henrique Roscoe shares strategies for producing live audiovisual works in which ways of making Visual Music and Generative Art are present. Botanical Computational Art and some relations between dance, music and audiovisual are proposed in the last chapters. This way we aim to contribute to the expanded animation, opening perspectives and boosting new researches in the area.

This thesis discusses the documentary films of the Brazilian filmmaker Helena Solberg, consisting of fourteen documentaries produced in the United States and in Brazil in the last 50 years. We have identified several different phases of the filmmaker's career - Cinema Novo; The Women Trilogy; The Latin American Political Phase and the Enchantment with the power of words in her current phase, in an effort to demonstrate that Helena Solberg has a singular and coherent body of work in the context of Brazilian documentary production and that she remains faithfull to the thematic and stylist elements that inform her directorial universe without losing sight of the transformations in documentary film language and international tendencies in the last five decades. This study aims to fill the gap in terms of references to her work and career in the bibliography of Brazilian documentary filmmaking and identify the stylist and thematic elements that inform her creative universe. This thesis gave rise to the book "Helena Solberg, from Cinema Novo to contemporary documentary" published by the Internacional Documentary Film Festival It's All True in 2014.

This article investigates screewriting teaching practices in undergraduate Animation courses. The objective of the research was to identify the challenges that teachers face when confronted with the specific processes of making animations and which strategies they adopt in the classroom. For this, comprehensive interviews were conducted with professors who work in baccalaureate courses offered by federal institutions of Higher Education in Brazil. The data obtained show the teachers’ search for integrating audiovisual dramaturgy into
other areas of the arts and communication; for privileging the procedural character of script development; and for favoring the collaborative construction of knowledge with students.

The interview investigate the documentary and fiction films of the brazilian filmmaker Helena Solberg, consisting of fifteen feature films produced in Latin America and in the United States in the last fifty years. We approach several different phases of the filmmaker’s career – Cinema Novo; The Women Trilogy, the Militant Phase in Latin America in an effort to shed light in her trajectory which started with feminist movies and and continued with political films until arriving in films that addressed brazilian art. Now, in her current phase, with 82 years old, Helena Solberg came back to feminism tematic in her recent feature film "Meu corpo, minha vida" (My body, my life, 2017) that addresses the controversial issue of abortion in Brazil. This interview aims to fill the gap in terms of references to her work and career in the international bibliography.

O texto identifica os aspectos que tornam o primeiro filme da cineasta brasileira Helena Solberg, "A Entrevista" de 1966, relevante dentro da produção nacional: figura entre os poucos filmes dirigidos por mulheres no Brasil, na década de 1960; é o primeiro filme a abordar questões feministas, antecipando a segunda onda que só chegaria na década de 1970. Radicada em Londres, suas exposições apresentam trabalhos fotográficos, instalações e curtas-metragens. Escrito para o catálogo da Mostra de Cinema Árabe Feminino, realizada pelo CCBB e Partisane Filmes em 2019, este artigo analisa três curtas-metragens da artista visual exibidos na mostra.

This research analyses the films of the brazilian filmmaker Helena Solberg, consisting of twelve documentaries and three fictions produced in the United States and in Brazil in the last 50 years. We have identified several different phases of the filmmaker's career – Cinema Novo; The Women Trilogy, the Political Phase and Brazilian Art in her current phase to demonstrate that Helena Solberg has a singular and coherent body of work in the context of brazilian documentary and fiction production and that she remains faithful to the thematic and stylistic elements that inform her directorial universe without losing sight of the transformations in documentary film language and international tendencies in the last five decades.

Texto para o Catálogo da 4ª edição do Pirenópolis.Doc - Festival do Documentário Brasileiro que em 2018, homenageou a cineasta Helena Solberg, com uma mostra de seus filmes (curadoria da pesquisadora Ceiça Ferreira). Na abertura do evento foi exibido o clássico 'Carmen Miranda, Bananas Is My Business' (1994). Neste texto busco demonstrar a atualidade do filme, sua relação com a obra da cineasta e com o cinema brasileiro, sendo um importante filme do período da retomada e prenunciando o boom dos documentários musicais que emergem nos anos 2000 no Brasil.

RESUMO Este trabalho percorre a filmografia documental da cineasta brasileira Helena Solberg que compreende doze documentários realizados no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos, nos últimos cinquenta anos. Identificamos as diferentes fases da cineasta: Trilogia da Mulher (década de 1970); Fase Política (1980-1990) e Arte Brasileira em sua fase atual. O objetivo é demonstrar que Helena Solberg tem trajetória singular e coerente no contexto da produção documental brasileira. ABSTRACT This work discusses the documentary films of the brazilian filmmaker Helena Solberg consisting of twelve documentaries produced in the United States, over the past fifty years. We have identified several different phases of the filmmaker's career: Cinema Novo (1960);The Women Trilogy (1970), The Political Phase (1980-1990) and Brazilian Art in her current phase in an effort to demonstrate that Helena Solberg has a singular and coherent body of work in the context of Brazilian documentary production.
