Au sein de l'Aquitaine romaine, plusieurs Rutènes - cinq hommes et deux femmes - ont choisi à un moment de leur vie de quitter Segodunum et le territoire de la cité pour émigrer ou voyager, parfois très loin de leur "petite patrie". Servir sur le limes dans l'armée romaine, se soigner auprès des eaux guérisseuses des Pyrénées, exporter le "savoir-faire" rutène sur les rives de l'Atlantique, nombreuses ont été les raisons qui ont poussé ces individus à quitter leur milieu de vie d'origine.

This article studies the funerary inscriptions featuring a woman found in Burdigala, capital of the ciuitas of the Biturigi Viuisci, province of Aquitaine. The documentation reflects above all the practices of the popular classes who lived in the 2nd and first half of the 3rd century, in a relatively prosperous economic context and in a relatively calm political situation. This small-scale analysis, highlighting in a micro-historical way particular cases and associating them with demographic data, shows the importance of certain social practices, in which funerary commemoration was essentially a male responsibility.The memorial presence of women is explained as members of a mononuclear family unit, essentially as wives, who had to be socially prominent, but also as members of a family that could feel immense sadness at the disappearance of one of its members, in this case a woman.

Following the enactment of Gratian’s rescript, Priscillianists were expelled from the episcopal sees they had so eagerly achieved. Given the seriousness of their situation, they decided to march to Rome in the hope that, by presenting themselves in person before the Pope Damaso, they could reverse the position they were in. Although Sulpicius Severus’s account provides little information about the route followed by the Priscillianists, we believe that it is possible to offer a plausible reconstruction of the path that led Priscillian and his companions to the Eternal City. In this task, we will take account of every source traditionally employed for the study of Priscillianism, as well as information provided by the main itineraria known in Roman times. [Author]
