SIR-C/X-SAR, a three-frequency radar to be flown on the Space Shuttle in September 1993, is described. The SIR-C system is a two-frequency radar operating at 1250 MHz (L-band) and 5300 MHz (C-band), and is designed to get four-polarization radar imagery at multiple surface angles. The X-SAR system is an X-band imaging radar operating at 9600 MHz. A modified printed bow-tie antenna is designed to simultaneously cover the operations in the C and X-bands from 5.5 to 12.5 GHz. This paper presents and describes a method based on parasitic elements technique to design a compact and wideband printed elliptical monopole antenna (PEMA) for C-band wireless applications. A quarter circular-shaped parasitic loads (QCPLs) are used as parasitic elements for designing wideband PEMA. A 50Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) line feeds this antenna and the CPW line is connected to antenna's elliptical-shaped monopole radiator. To improve the impedance bandwidth of the PEMA, two pairs of QCPLs are used; the first one is loaded to the patch and placed at the upper substrate's corner and the second one is loaded to the upper corner of CPW-ground plane. The performance of the antenna is evaluated with aid of the time domain CST Microwave Studio (MWS) simulator and confirmed independently using the frequency domain ANSOFT High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). Four iterations of a Coplanar Waveguide (CPW)-Fed KOCH SNOWFLAKE fractal antenna are studied. Increasing the number of iterations allow us obtaining a simple and miniaturized antenna with good performances, operating for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) applications. The proposed antennas are a good solution for the 3.7-4.2GHZ C-Band, the 5.15-5.82 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and for the 5GHZ Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access system (WIMAX) applications. This paper describes the development of a practical approach for realizing low-pass elliptic filters using cascaded microstrip rectangular elements. The low-pass prototype is based on the numerical approximation method. With an appropriate transformed variable, the numerical accuracy of the synthesis procedure is enhanced and the values of the elements are attained. The realization in microstrip configuration consists in making the equivalence between the geometry of a planar rectangular structure and the basic cell of the lumped element prototype. The physical design and electrical performance of a microstrip filter of sixth order with cutoff frequency in the C-band is given. There is good agreement between the experimental and theoretical results.
