Many initiatives to improve Business processes are emerging. The essential roles and contributions of Business Analyst (BA) and Business Process Management (BPM) professionals to such initiatives have been recognized in literature and practice. The roles and responsibilities of a BA or BPM practitioner typically require different skill-sets; however these differences are often vague. This vagueness creates much confusion in practice and academia. Based on multiple-case study method, this paper discusses some supply chain (SC) mapping initiatives undertaken in the Brazilian automotive industry. In addition to the familiar occupational standards that underpin National Vocational Qualifications, the UK has a parallel if less complete system of competence or practice standards that are developed and controlled by professional bodies. While there is a certain amount of overlap between the two types of standard, recent research points to a distinct professional, as opposed to occupational, perspective on work competence. This can be characterised as focusing on ethics, professionalism and key standards rather than the detail of roles and functions; being designed to apply across the profession rather than having a core-and-options structure; and providing confidence in practitioners’ abilities to act as a member of the profession rather than in a bounded occupational role. In 2019, the People's Representative Council of Indonesia pledged to be a modern parliament, characterized by openness, effective representation, and optimal use of information technology. The Parliament’s supporting system, namely the organization of the Secretariat General, is integral in the journey of realizing this pledge. This paper aims to identify the priority factors of organizational, human resource, and technological capabilities required to realize a modern parliament. The paper first identifies different factors influencing organizational, human resource, and technological capabilities that are necessary in a modern parliament. The identification is made on the basis of literature review and questionnaire distributed to experts. The paper then finds their relative importance by prioritizing them using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). We conducted a hierarchy construction procedure which involved in-depth interviews and focus group discussion (FGD) with six internal experts and six external experts (academics and practitioners). This paper finds that the priority strategy to improve organizational, human resource, and technological capabilities is the formulation of policies using system based and future organization approach (0.247). Meanwhile, the key factors that support strategy implementation are the organization’s vision, mission, and human resource (0.264)

This paper reports the first application of the capabilities approach to the development and valuation of an instrument for use in the economic evaluation of health and social care interventions. The ICECAP index of capability for older people focuses on quality of life rather than health or other influences on quality of life, and is intended to be used in decision making across health and social care in the UK. The measure draws on previous qualitative work in which five conceptual attributes were developed: attachment, security, role, enjoyment and control. This paper details the innovative use within health economics of further iterative qualitative work in the UK among 19 informants to refine lay terminology for each of the attributes and levels of attributes used in the eventual index. For the first time within quality of life measurement for economic evaluation, a best-worst scaling exercise has been used to estimate general population values (albeit for the population of those aged 65þ years) for the levels of attributes, with values anchored at one for full capability and zero for no capability. Death was assumed to be a state in which there is no capability. The values obtained indicate that attachment is the attribute with greatest impact but all attributes contribute to the total estimation of capability. Values that were estimated are feasible for use in practical applications of the index to measure the impact of health and social care interventions.

A new construct called market-scanning capability has been conceptualized that captures firms’ capability to sense or to respond to the changes in the marketplace. The second-order reflective construct was found to have four first-order components that are named as CustInfo (i.e., collection of information about customers), CmpInfo (i.e., information regarding competitiveness), MktResp (i.e., responsiveness to collected market-related information) and Coord (i.e., coordination among different business units of the firm). The first-order components of market-scanning capability construct provide a theoretical understanding useful to the practitioners who want to design the business processes to revamp the market-scanning capability of their organizations.
