The article presents the analysis of innovative activity in mining companies, based on the
types of innovations introduced by a selected mining company in Silesia. This analysis was
based on a survey, which was carried out as a part of the project „The analysis of determinants
of innovativeness of mining companies” from November 2010 till December 2010. As
a result of this study, a diagnosis of innovative activities in mining companies has been obtained,
taking into account what kind of innovations are in these companies are. The research
employed qualitative methods, using the technique of individual in-depth interviews (IDI –
Individual In-Depth Interviews). The survey structure was based on a review of research
literature, which served, among others, to refine and clarify the discussed issues in qualitative
research. This development confirms the hypothesis that innovations in mining enterprises
may be present in all divisions of the mining companies depending on their type. Due to the small number of studies on this topic, diagnosis of innovation in mining companies
and identification of the innovation determinants characteristic of this industry is very important.
Moreover, the article contains the assessment of the innovative activity of a mining
company, compared to companies in Poland, based on selected indexes. The article also characterizes
the determinants and barriers of innovation development in mining companies.

After economic decentralization policies were introduced in China during the late 1970s, the promotion of provincial cultural identities became a means to compete for comparative advantage to attract investment. Local cultural practices, often framed as uniquely Chinese, were sometimes portrayed as "windows" and "bridges" that would bring global attention to a locality. This article examines northern Shaanxi Province's use of song and dance to facilitate a joint project between the largest coal company in China and The Dow Chemical Company. Focusing on rhetoric surrounding a 2008 performance by the Yulin Folk Arts Troupe at a "Far East Meets West" event in Dow's global headquarters in Midland, Michigan, and reciprocal, Dow-funded performances by the U.S. National Symphony Orchestra the following year in China, I explore the symbolic role of reciprocal performances amid the forging of relationships between different localities in a global age.

Mining corporation plays a role as surrogate state since it takes after the state in its development agenda. One of the biggest coal mining companies in Indonesia, PT. KPC (Kaltim Prima Coal), has carried out several activities other than mining ones. The activities are manifested in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs. An obligation to recover post-mining area by KPC is already implemented in a program called PESAT (Integrated Cattle Farm) which is one of the CSR programs. The farm in the recovered post-mining area is developed as a social program for people living around the mining area. My research was carried out with qualitative approach. Participatory observation and interviews with people in the village of Swarga Bara, Kutai Timur, East Kalimantan, were used in collecting data. The result shows that the people living around the KPC is an active agent in responding the corporate lives. The local people, in fact, depend on the KPC's social programs since the programs are in favor of local development and welfare. Nevertheless, the local people respond negatively toward programs which do not meet their needs.

At the same time, the Average Daily Employment (ADE) has increased from 352 thousand in 1951 to 405 thousand in 2004. However, the journey of Coal sector was not uniform throughout the five decades. It is shown in recent time that the productivity of labour in coal mines in Tamil Nadu and Orissa is very high in comparison with other major coal producing states, like, West Bengal and Jharkhand. However, the coal mining in Tamil Nadu and Orissa is mostly and increasingly dependents on Open-cast mining. The paper is wanted to show that the labour productivity in coal mine are the boom in productivity in Orissa and Tamil Nadu is only due to the weighted average of different types of productivities. But, the coals at open-cast and below ground are not same. They are different in quality...

Economic, political, and religious factions struggled for control of work forces in the 19th century as industrializing societies in Europe and the United States of America (US) gained power. The coal and steel industries were a central part of the struggle in the USA, in which Phil Murray was to play a critical role in the unionization process. In Europe, where class distinctions were entrenched, political parties that focused on the laboring classes emerged, with significant impact from the religious organizations that dominated each society. In the US, with a less class-defined society, and without the tradition of an established church, political parties based on the “working class” did not materialize, nor did parties controlled by a religious faction. US political parties were coalitions of economic, geographic, and ethnic alliances. The saga of Philip Murray, one of the key leaders of the US unionization era of 1920-1950, illustrates the complexity of the US work force, the importance of secular political forces for unionization, and the influence of the Catholic Church on the process.

That is why we are getting the problem of Addition.
