Currency regimes and their effects have been studied widely in both developed and developing countries. This study discusses what European monetary unification is telling about the interpretation of the optimum currency area (OCA) in the framework of classical contributions to the literature. The study concludes that although several weaknesses of the analytical framework of the early OCA theory have been modified and some of the OCA properties have technically sophisticated, there is no unified theory in this area. The experiment of Europe with economic and monetary union intensify this conviction. Moreover, it concludes that a single currency advances members’ living standarts when they have similar economic structures and international trading patterns, but proves detrimental when these diverge. This paper presents a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model to wine production planning. In a MIP problem, some of the decision variables are constrained to have only integer values at the optimal solution. The use of integer variables greatly expands the scope of useful optimization problems. The purpose of this paper is to propose a concise formulation of the production planning problem oriented at the food industry and in particular to wine production. The main idea is the selection of new products to be produced and the determination of the quantity of them in order to maximize profit of a winery. This is a fixed-charge problem and in this paper branch and bound method is used to solve the problem. The results obtained from a MIP model indicate that the selection of new products can favorably produce optimal schedules.

The present paper focuses on a particular methodology for measuring the occupational health and safety risks in tourism companies by numerical risk coefficients. The methodology is based on the achievements of several US and international research and innovation development programs, such as: “SSP”, “ISSP”, “F/A-18” and “AFMC”. Under this methodology, the occupational health and safety risks are regarded as a function of three variable factors: the likelihood of occurrence of a negative, risk event; the consequences from the realization of this very same risk event and the immediacy of occurrence of the risk event in respect of time. The values of each of these three variables are being measured by the help of score card estimation tables and are being presented as per a zero-referent scale of 1 to 10 or of 1 to 100. Thus a final estimation of the value of a certain occupational health and safety risk can be achieved. The advantages and the opportunities for improving of this methodology on an enterprise level are reviewed as well. The main advantage which is pointed out is that the methodology could by used even by inexperienced tourism company which has small or small or no past record of health and safety risk measurement.

In the addition to the risk measurement and quantification methodology, a set of criteria for acceptance of the occupational health and safety risks are also presented. This includes: the usage of risk matrixes, the “f-N” curves and the “ALARP” principle.

Labour market discrimination can be defined as occurring when one group of workers with abilities, education, training, and experience equal to another group of workers are provided inferior treatment in hiring, occupational access, promotion or wage rates on the basis of some personal characteristic, such as gender or race, which is unrelated to productivity. In the light of this definition, the purpose of this study is to analyse gender discrimination in the Turkish labour market. Studies of gender discrimination in the labour market have been very popular during the last three decades, but most of the research on labour market discrimination has been confined to developed countries such as the UK, the USA, and Austria etc. In this paper we analyse the existing theoretical and empirical literature of gender discrimination and evaluate their relevance in a developing country such as Turkey where traditional and cultural beliefs and norm are still prevalent.
