I am a lecturer with professional marketing experience, and this study was motivated by my dismay at university about what I have perceived as oversights in colleagues’ typical use of mass email (emailing a single message to a large group of subscribers) for content delivery, in comparison to the communication strategies of major industries (for example, retail and public administration). I examine non-academic research about mass email best-practice, as implemented in industry communications; then I perform a systematic review of academic research on mass email for content delivery. My review of 19 studies confirms academics are behind the industry when it comes to mass email evaluation and optimisation strategies. Finally, I outline tactics necessary for more effective mass emails at university, the most salient being systematically analysing a range of email metrics, and testing and optimising emails. Also, included in this study is my identification of current obstacles to more effective mass email at university, and these include the technological limitations of learning management systems (LMS), and the limited expertise of teaching staff.

In this article we will analyze some of the keys in order to get the communication process of blended learning to be effective in the development of communicative competence of students, taking into account that this is an academic and formal context that requires, therefore, a high degree of linguistics correction and adequacy.
The elements of communication and interpersonal communication styles, passive, aggressive and assertive, are presented. The sense of communication and their characteristics in virtual learning environments is analyzed, and what should be the basic communication skills of an online teacher.
We also submit the communication characteristics of the main tools of the Virtual Classroom:  forums, mail and videoconferencing, and the type of academic writing is discussed in the first two. Finally, it offers a number of practical suggestions of communicative action in the Virtual Classroom.

In the end, a model with best classifier in combination of pre-processing technique for spam email is identified based on accuracy, precision, recall, execution time and error rate. Proposed model is used to identify spam emails. Using a complementarity-interference (CI) framework, I review research to illuminate key psychological processes (i.e., mediators) and conditions (i.e., moderators) of the relationship between media technology and psychological well-being. Based on the existing evidence, I propose an initial theoretical CI model of the effects of media technology on psychological well-being. I use this CI model to outline important directions for future research, providing guidelines for an integrated, theoretically informed research on media technology.

This  experiment was performed based on dataset to find spam  in different parameters like finding Accuracy,Recall,Precision,Fmeasures and False Position Rate  etc. The final classification result should be ‘1’ if it is finally spam present , otherwise, it should be ‘0’ for no spam. Finally  this  paper shows that  J48 classifier is best  and efficient algorithm for detection of spam emails for dataset that  classified as binary tree among other algorithms.

The world has become an information and communication technology age where the Internet as a means of information dissemination has taken the centre stage. This study investigated the impact of training Baptist pastors in using the Internet to disseminate information in their ministries. Quasi-experimental research design was used to examine the impact of training in some aspects of Internet information dissemination and the effects it would have on the ministries of the pastors. Thirty pastors were randomly selected and trained from the pool of pastors without experience in the use of the Internet. A course content was designed for the training. A questionnaire was administered to the pastors before the training as a pre-test and the same questionnaire was administered again to the pastors after the training as a post-test. Ten church members were also randomly selected from each of the churches of these pastors who assessed the impact of the training after the pastors have used the acquired knowledge in their ministries for one month. After the pastors have been using the knowledge in their ministries for one month another questionnaire was administered to the church members for the appraisal. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse data collected.
Findings from this study revealed that training of pastors in using the Internet to disseminate information in their ministries has significant impact on their ministries. Another significant finding of the study is that church members that have been using the Internet want their pastors to be using the Internet to disseminate information in their ministries. Therefore, it was recommended that every stakeholder in the dissemination of  the gospel should see the Internet as a new veritable means of disseminating the gospel and other useful information, and be ready to make use of it effectively, and that every pastor should be trained formally or informally on how to use the Internet to disseminate information in his or her ministries.

Approaches that blend brick-and-mortar modes with face-to-face methods in language teaching are recently reshaping the educational landscape across various contexts. Anchored on the tenets of TPACK Framework (Koehler & Mishra, 2009) and Blended Learning Framework (Horn & Staker, 2014), this study explored the viability of using e-mail in facilitating topical discussions via e-mail exchanges among six ESL writing classes of 198 students in a private university in Manila, the Philippines during the first semester of the academic year 2014-2015. Students were first required to have their individual e-mail accounts; then, they were assigned with e-mail exchange partners whom they communicated with on a weekly basis for a total of five weeks. E-mail thread discussion topics ranged from personal to societal issues covering local, national and global concerns. Data from student reflections, interviews, survey and focus group discussions revealed that despite some motivational and technology-related limitations, using e-mail in the classroom may help develop students’ interest and confidence in writing, enhance their technological and social skills, develop learners’ autonomy, and improve students’ attitudes towards English language learning. Pedagogical insights and implications are provided for ESL (English as a second language) and EFL (English as a foreign language) teachers and researchers in the light of these findings.

Eighty to ninety percent of e-mail is considered unsolicited commercial communication, or spam. Not only does spam violate the privacy of users, but it also incurs societal costs associated with time-related losses, serves as a vehicle for cyber-crime, and threatens the success of e-commerce by lowering consumer confidence. This quantitative correlational ex post facto study explored factors contributing to the volume of spam received by users in a rural New Hampshire school district using a sample of 232 teachers, volunteers, parents, and vendors associated with the school district. A self-administered cross-sectional survey of users was utilized to gather data. Data were analyzed using hierarchical regression to assess whether and to what extent the number and percentage of users’ spam messages were influenced by demographic variables, user skill, e-mail behaviors, and attitudes toward spam. For demographic variables, only education was significant (β = .17, p < .01). User skill was not significant (β = .05, p > .05). For user behaviors, only amount of computer use was significant (β = -.14, p < .01). Anti-spam attitudes were not significant (β = -.05, p > .05). It was concluded on this basis that the number of spam messages is not affected by user skill or anti-spam attitudes, but education and amount of computer use may have an effect. On this basis, it is recommended that professional development intended to reduce spam on this network should be provided to users of all education levels, and should include information about the apparent direct relationship between behaviors in response to spam and the indirect relationship with time spent using a computer. In addition, training should be tailored to older, younger, and less skilled users, who appear to have greater vulnerability to spam. This research serves to examine the ways in which a community in Brixton and the local authorities such as the police – all of whom involved in a relationship that has been put to test many times due to sociopolitical circumstances – could engage and mobilise against crack dealings and make the neighbourhood safe by engaging in a dialogue using email communications. This is done by first examining the sociohistorical background of Brixton, the connection between social deprivation and drug abuse, and efforts in combating it through economic interventions or legally prescribed means such as education and policing. The paper will then examine how the complex scenario gave rise to a culture of ‘concealment’ characteristic among the multi-ethnic residents on the fieldsite, and will also analyse how the technical constraints inherent in the email as a tool of communication work well in allowing the residents and the authorities to discuss, with tact, the most effective way of policing a Brixton road, maintaining the social order in doing so. The City of Cape Town (CoCT) experienced three years of drought, which necessitated the implementation of water demand management strategies by one of the universities in CoCT to reduce water consumption. This study used persuasive system (persuasive information campaign (PIC) disseminated to students using Short Messaging Service (SMS), email and both SMS and email) in three residences and tested its effectiveness in increasing students' intention to save water. The extended Theory of Planned Behaviour and Partial Least Square Path Modelling were used for data collection and analysis. The factor loading showed that students who received the PIC by both SMS and email were the most persuaded to increase their intention to save water. Overall, PIC significantly influenced students' attitude towards water-saving, and students' attitude was the strongest predictor of intention to save water. This study highlights the importance of persuasive system in encouraging the sustainable use of scarce natural resources. This study discusses learning analytics solutions I implemented in three blended undergraduate units over two years. My objective was to gather data on students' engagement with content. The solutions are " hacks " because they resolved the limitations of my university's learning management system. I note how these hacks enabled me to make data-driven iterative changes to unit design/content; in addition, student surveys show an increase in satisfaction with the resources of one of the units. I also identify several issues raised as a result of my adoption of these LA solutions—useful for a general discussion of how LA solutions are conditioned by everyday practice in real settings. In addition to the limitations of some LMS, these issues include the following: the need for multiple metrics and benchmarks for a context-rich understanding of engagement and effective iteration; the difficulty of avoiding university (technical) support for small-scale LA initiatives; the importance of recognizing that ethical grey areas can appear without being anticipated (and be overlooked); the need to accept that some teachers could be ignorant of their university's broader LA initiatives and how this might relate to their own classroom-based teaching goals; and, the importance (and difficulty) of gathering LA data unobtrusively.

Students' acceptance is one of the key fundamentals for development and success of University E-mail system. This research explores the level of acceptance and factors influencing the acceptance of the email system at University of Benin, Nigeria. This research modified and used the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT 2), as a theoretical basis to conduct empirical research to test the factors that influence postgraduate students' intention to use the e-mail system introduced in their academic environment. To empirically test the model, a survey was administered three hundred and eight respondents consisting of postgraduate students from various faculties of the University. The research found out that the level of acceptance of the University E-mail system amongst the postgraduate students was moderate. Emails have great potential in facilitating academic communication. However, writing effective academic emails depends on many factors including students' knowledge, experiences and perceptions about emails. According to Brown and Levinson (1987), people use certain politeness strategies to enhance face between themselves and their interlocutors. Yet, the underlying processes of email communication may be poorly understood, especially as far as politeness is concerned. This study seeks to examine the perceptions, practices and attitudes of 38 postgraduateTunisian students towards email communication through a questionnaire. The aim is to reveal whether the sociolinguistic and pragmatic dynamics of writing emails in English are adequately understood by Tunisian postgraduate students. The questionnaire comprises four parts which include email use, participants' attitudes towards emails, email practices and social factors. Each section includes closed and open-ended questions. The findings show that the informants have a positive attitude towards the use of emails in their academic life. However, their perceptions concerning politeness and their comment on the effect of social factors show a relative variability. A possible avenue for pedagogical intervention with regard to the instruction of pragmatics in general and politeness routines in particular in email communication is presented.
