The paper presents an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of a needs-based approach to ESP course design in the context of Greek tertiary education and to measure the impact of the influence of pre-existing English knowledge in relation to the students' performance in ESP. Experimental research design was employed; the students' scores in the Oxford Placement Test and the pre-and post-tests were analyzed by means of ANOVA and ANCOVA. The post-intervention data revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in terms of total test scores even after adjustments were made by removing the learners' previous linguistic competence as measured by the OPT while between-groups comparison indicated statistically significant differences. The results thus, provide support for the efficacy of the adopted needs-based approach to syllabus design.

This paper examines the effects that digital stories may have on the understanding of spoken English by a group of 6-year-old Spanish learners. To accomplish this aim, a quasi-experimental research study was launched in six state schools in Madrid. A pre-post test design was used to investigate whether internet-based technology could improve listening comprehension in English as a Foreign Language (henceforth, EFL). Findings indicate that the experimental group outperformed the control group in the final test administered. These results raise interesting issues related to the use of technology in the context of foreign language learning. Future research which includes other age groups and digital materials and which explores other linguistic areas could further substantiate the link between Information and Communication Technology (ICT) rich environment and improved language learning.

There is a need to identify strategies that promote psychological well-being and reduce problem behaviours in this group of clients. This study evaluates the impact of multisensory therapy on participants' emotional state, level of relaxation, challenging behaviour, stereotypic self-stimulating behaviour (SSB) and adaptive behaviour (AB). Using an experimental design, 89 participants were recruited from a developmental disability unit in a hospital in Hong Kong and randomly assigned to either an experimental (n = 48) or a control group (n = 41). Multisensory therapy sessions (n = 36) were conducted with experimental group and activity sessions (n = 36) were conducted with controls for 12 weeks. The study was conducted to compare the performance of students working in chemistry laboratory with those working in chemistry laboratory supplemented with simulations at secondary school level. The study was experimental in nature and post-test only control group design was used. The sample comprised of 55 males and 60 female students and 02 Chemistry teachers of class IX of Public schools. At the end of the treatment, practical examination was conducted on the pattern of Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. The scores of both control and experimental groups were compared by using independent sample t-test in three main areas i.e. written, viva voce and notebook. The result of independent sample t test of school No 1(male) indicated that there is a significance difference between the performance of control group (M=8.9, SD=2.13) and experimental group (M=10.5, SD=3.04) at α=0.05 and df=53. The result of independent sample t test of school No 2(female) indicated that there is a significance difference between the performance of control group (M=10, SD=1.91) and experimental group (M=11.7, SD=2.13) at α=0.05 and df=58. The qualitative data was collected by means of interviews from chemistry teachers. Both the interviewees were motivated and showed keen interest in the simulated software. The performance of the students of experimental groups showed improvement results in the rejection of hypotheses that there is no significant difference between the performance of students taught by conventional demonstration in laboratory and laboratory work facilitated with simulation.

This study focuses on teaching vocabulary through corpus. Vocabulary is backbone of language learning process and its teaching has primary importance in teaching a language. The use of corpus is the most modern and the latest method which can be used to teach vocabulary at graduate level. With the sudden rise of the use of data through mobiles/computers, this method has got unchallenging repute. The researcher used the corpus of English text books of Graduation level of the Punjab University to teach vocabulary items. AntConc 3.5.7 was used as the tool. The students of graduate level were selected from Govt. Degree College, Kamoke, Gujranwala and divided into control and experimental groups. The use of pre-test taken by the control group, helped the researcher to find out the existing knowledge of the students. Only the top 20 vocabulary items were selected. Their selection was based on their frequency. Multiple techniques were used to teach and enhance vocabulary. The experimental group was targeted by the researcher four weeks with the help of four lesson plans on different type of vocabulary items. The post-test exhibited their improvement. The data was analyzed numerically and presented through percentage paragraph, tables and charts. The analysis of data proved that corpus based vocabulary teaching is far better than the earlier methods applied for the purpose of vocabulary teaching..

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Children of Divorce Intervention Program (CODIP), a school-based, preventively oriented 10-week group program for fourth-grade through sixth-grade children of divorce. CODIP creates a supportive group atmosphere in which children can share divorce-related feelings, clarify common misconceptions, and reduce feelings of isolation and builds competence by teaching problem-solving, communication, and anger control skills to help children cope adaptively with challenges posed by parental divorce. Seventy-two children of divorce, in demographical ly matched groups, were assigned randomly to an immediate intervention (experimental) or a delayed intervention (control) group. A randomized controlled trial with blinded assessors was conducted to investigate the effect of a specific joint mobilization, the anteroposterior glide on the talus, on increasing pain-free dorsiflexion and 3 gait variables: stride speed (gait speed), step length, and single support time. Forty-one subjects with acute ankle inversion sprains (<72 hours) and no other injury to the lower limb entered the trial. Subjects were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment groups. This paper aims at investigating experimentally the effect of applying the Lexical Approach (henceforth LA) on the achievement of third-year University students of English in the cause and effect essay writing. It examines theoretically and practically the LA and the notion of lexical units in English along with explaining some other relevant points. The two groups, pre-test and post-test experimental design were adopted to ensure group-matching control over the intervening variables. After six weeks of instruction based on the LA, the results revealed that the experimental group had statistically significant gain scores between their pretests and posttests in the essay-writing test. The control group, however, did not have statistically significant gain scores on the dependent measure. The LA was beneficial to the third-year students.
