Family Conflict

For many married individuals, the ups and downs of daily life are connected such that stressors impacting one person also impact the other person. For example, stress experienced by one individual may "spill over" to negatively impact marital functioning. This study used both partners' daily diary data to examine same-day and cross-day links between stress and marital conflict and tested several factors that make couples vulnerable to spillover. Assessment of 25 wide-ranging sources of daily stress included both paid and unpaid work, health issues, financial concerns, and having to make difficult decisions. Results showed that both husbands' and wives' experiences of total daily stress were associated with greater same-day marital conflict and that conflict was greater on days both spouses experienced high levels of stress. Objective: An increase in post-marital relationships has had adverse consequences. One of the consequences is family dissolution and the breakdown of social units (families). The present study aimed to study the processes and contextual factors of marital infidelity.
Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using the grounded theory method. The research population included couples who experienced marital infidelity. A total of 32 participants were selected using the purposive sampling method in 2019. We conducted semi-structured interviews with the participants to collect the study data, and the interviews continued until the data saturation. The collected data were systematically analyzed in three stages of open, axial, and selective coding.
Results: Analysis of the data collected revealed 51 codes extracted through open coding. Then, the extracted codes were merged into 10 categories via axial coding. These categories included four themes: the formation of the context of marital infidelity, predictions of marital infidelity, engaging in marital infidelity, and the consequences of marital infidelity.
Conclusion: Given that marital infidelity is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, the insights from this study can be used to develop models to identify and prevent predictors of marital infidelity.

Abstract Pornography, if understood to involve the depiction of sexual activity, organs, and experiences, is perhaps as old as human civilization itself. Historically linked to various technological innovations, pornography viewing in the Internet age has reached epic proportions, with large numbers of individuals taking advantage of ease of access, affordability, and presumed anonymity to explore sexual material online. Within the mental health professions substantial research exists on the effects of viewing general pornography; however, the distinctive effects of the marriage of pornography and cyberspace is only beginning to be examined. In addition to reviewing some historical and statistical material about pornography and the relevant psychiatric and psychoanalytic literature, four detailed clinical vignettes are presented to illustrate the types of problems related to Internet pornography use that are being presented to practicing psychotherapists.

Key words: psychoactive substances, impulsivity, family conflict, teenagers, high school. The results shows that impulsivity was a predictor of drug consumption, users of psychoactive substances had high impulsivity in comparison of non users, for wich it is necessary to design interventions that favor the management of emotions and decision making in adolescents. Also family conflict correlate with the use of psychoactive substances, users had a high level of situations of conflict in their family, however this factor was not a predictor of consumption in all the sample only in the group of women, who presented a higher consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other substances. Impulsivity and family conflict correlated, which supports theoretical aspects that suggest that the family has a fundamental role in the control of impulses. En esta investigación se estudia la impulsividad y los factores de conflicto en la familia como predictores del consumo de sustancias psicoactivas en adolescentes de telesecundarias. Se utilizó una metodología cuantitativa, mediante un estudio de corte transversal, observacional y correlacional, para el cual se aplicó un cuestionario conformado por: indicadores de características sociodemográficas, escala de relaciones familiares disfuncionales perteneciente al DUSI (Tarter, 1990), escala de Impulsividad de Plutchik (1989), el test AUDIT (Bush, Kivlahan, McDonell, Fihn, y Bradley, 1998) y Fagerström (Fagerström, 1978) que exploran el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas y tabaco respectivamente, indicadores para identificar consumo de otras sustancias psicoactivas y su patrón de consumo. Participaron 344 estudiantes de tres telesecundarias del municipio de Emiliano Zapata ubicado en el estado de Veracruz, México. Los resultados revelan que la mitad de los participantes alguna vez había consumido bebidas alcohólicas, casi una cuarta parte había consumido tabaco alguna vez y un 9% había consumido otras sustancias psicoactivas. Si bien la mayoría de los usuarios son experimentales, se encontraron casos de consumo moderado y alto. Los hallazgos indican que la impulsividad disfuncional es un factor predictor del uso de sustancias en los adolescentes, lo que hace evidente la necesidad de diseñar intervenciones que favorezcan el manejo de emociones y toma de decisiones. Del mismo modo, el sexo y la ocupación fueron predictores, en el grupo de mujeres se observó un mayor consumo de sustancias; de igual manera, quienes indicaron que además de estudiar se dedican a trabajar también presentaron un mayor consumo. Cabe señalar que el conflicto familiar en términos estadísticos solo fue un factor predictor en el grupo de las mujeres; sin embargo, se encontraron correlaciones entre el conflicto familiar y el consumo de sustancias, también el grupo de usuarios presentó mayores puntuaciones en la escala de relaciones familiares disfuncionales. La impulsividad y el conflicto familiar tuvieron una correlación, que a pesar de ser baja fue estadísticamente significativa.

In this chapter, the theoretical and empirical associations between family relationships and children's responses to stressors are reviewed. Family relationships explored are primarily dyadic, representing the emphasis of past empirical research; these include parent-parent, parent-child, and sibling relationships. However, in recognition of the more complicated and interconnected nature of family relationships, also reviewed are associations between the broader family context and children's stress responses. Multiple measures of stress responses are considered, including both physiological and emotional responses to and recovery from stressful experiences. Overall, the studies reviewed suggest that poor-quality family environments, including those characterized by low emotional support or high conflict, are associated with dysregulated stress responses throughout childhood and adolescence. In contrast, children and adolescents in families with high emotional support or low conflict seem to be protected from developing stress regulatory problems. Limitations in this body of research as well as directions for future research are discussed.

There is relatively little research on the relationships between adults with intellectual disability and their siblings, despite the potential importance of these relationships for either individual's psychological well-being and future care roles that might be adopted by adult siblings. In the present study, sibling relationships of adults with adult siblings with (N = 63) and without (N = 123) intellectual disability were explored. Contact, warmth, conflict, and rivalry were measured using questionnaires available as an on-line survey. Expressed emotion was measured using the Five Minute Speech Sample over the telephone to establish an independently coded measure of criticism from the participant towards their sibling. Overall, there were few group differences in contact and sibling relationship. There was less telephone contact in the intellectual disability group, and less reported warmth in the relationship with siblings with intellectual disability although this was mainly associated with severe/profound intellectual disability. Exploratory analyses were conducted of the correlates of sibling relationships in both the intellectual disability and control groups. These analyses revealed a small number of different associations especially for conflict, which was lower when either the participant or sibling was younger in the control group but associated with relative age in the intellectual disability group.

They are applied in a variety of case studies, including family conflicts, legal procedure, judicial deliberation, disaster planning and recovery, and death.
