Will new media equalize the electoral playing field for opposition parties as predicated by equalization theory or merely reinforce politics as usual for the ruling party in the eyes of normalization theorists? After comparing the contesting political parties on Twitter during the Singapore General Election 2011, this study found that Twitter was not fully utilized by either the ruling party or the opposition parties in normalizing or equalizing the electoral playing field. Recommendations were made for political parties and for further studies.

This article is based on data from the 1980 National Election Study surveys. It reports findings concerning the rates at which voters become familiar with presidential candidates and their policy positions, trends in public opinion during the 1980 presidential campaign, and the dynamics of individual attitudes that underlie those trends. The impact of political attitudes on the individual vote decision is assessed within the context of a simultaneous equation model. In addition, the net effects of attitudinal distributions on the election outcome are estimated. The analysis yields support for the retrospective voting model and provides no evidence for the contention that Reagan's victory was the result of his policy or ideological positions.

The debate on the influence of political advertisements is an ongoing one. It has been argued that political messages advertised during elections tends to change voter choice and preference of candidates during an election while others show contrary findings to the question. This study attempts to lend a voice to the debate by investigating the impact of political advertisements in voter behaviour during the 2019 general elections in South-South region of Nigeria. The study reports data from a paper-based survey (N=400) of voters in the South-South region of Nigeria. Findings uncovered that a substantial number of voters in South-South region of Nigeria were exposed to newspapers political advertisements during the 2019 presidential elections in Nigeria. Presidential elections often are colored by propaganda and post-truth politics in its campaign to influence public opinion. This study aimed to identify the way and forms of propaganda and post-truth communicate political messages from the 2019 presidential election in Indonesia through political communication on social media. This research employed a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative data were obtained from Twitter with social network analysis (SNA) from December 2018 to March 2019. Meanwhile, the qualitative data were obtained from literature searches and expert interviews. The results of this analysis indicated that presidential candidate Jokowi was widely rumored to be a liar, claimant of success, weak leader, communist, pro-China, and anti-Islam. The rise in the use of social media in recent years had altered the landscape of events such as elections, disasters and political uprisings through its ability to serve as a source of information, recruitment and mobilization. These changes lead to the need to study the use of social media on how it influenced the Nigeria 2015 elections. Social Network Analysis (SNA) was used on the network structure generated during the election. This enabled the identification of influencers, the spread of influence and the way the media was used. As complimentary analysis, content analysis was performed on tweets submitted during the election process. The findings demonstrate how social media is used as an avenue for encouraging people to vote, collation and preservation of the election results which prevents election manipulation that usually happens in Nigeria. This study examines the incidence of electoral violence and its resultant effects on voter turnout in the 2019 general elections in Nigeria, with the role of political parties as the focal point of discussion. A review of election data shows; voter turnout has been on the decline from 69% in 2003 to 35% in 2019. While a handful of factors could be responsible, the study ascribes its prevalence to the antic’s political parties (incumbent and opposition) and politicians who deliberately deploy violence as an electoral strategy.
