As far as myth and ritual are concerned, we have only recently wit- nessed a hermeneutical shift from R. Merkelbach’s allegorizing view of the novel as a mystery text to the paradigm of initiation where young people experience the rite of passage to adulthood. On the basis of a new bio-ritual, psycho-anthropolo- gical model, it will be argued that the ancient novels, which are built on tradi- tional wondertales, focus upon, rework, revolve around and help to overcome the central crisis of puberty, very often from the vantage point of the girl.
The change of focus will be explored through Apuleius’ Golden Ass, a rather atypical novel that, due to Lucius’ initiation into the secret rites of Isis in Book 11, has served as the model for mystery interpretation until now. However, despite all the differences from the ideal romances, Apuleius, too, deals with the crucial threshold of adolescence. It will be shown that Lucius, the young protagonist, acts out his male obsessions with love and sexuality, while the narration is similar to a dream sequence on the level of a fairy-tale folk structure. Furthermore, the ‘girl’s tragedy’ coming of age is also debated through the medium of the ass: within the texture of the narrative the sexual nightmare is particularly high- lighted in Charite’s drama, which is again refracted in the inlay tale of Cupid and Psyche.

Objectifs : Les objectifs de cette étude sont (1) de quantifier le lien entre la minéralisation dentaire et la ménarche et (2) d’évaluer la possibilité d’estimer l’âge moyen à la ménarche à partir des stades de minéralisation des dents permanentes. Matériel : L’échantillon utilisé comprend 86 jeunes filles âgées de 7 à 17 ans (âge moyen 12,06 ± 1,99 ans). Une à quatre panoramiques dentaires ont été collectées par jeune fille ce qui représente un total de 161 radiographies. Celles-ci proviennent de cabinets d’orthodontie du Sud-Ouest de la France et ont été réalisées entre 2005 et 2013. Résultats : En utilisant le rapport de corrélation, les arbres de régression et de décision, l’inférence bayésienne, et malgré les résultats obtenus par les précédentes études, il apparait que la minéralisation dentaire est corrélée à la ménarche dans le présent échantillon. Jusqu’au stade F (d’après la définition de Demirjian et al., 1973) des prémolaires, les filles appartiennent au groupe ante-ménarche ; alors qu’après le stade G des prémolaires, elles correspondent au groupe post-ménarche. Jusqu’au stade R3/4 (selon la définition de Moorrees et al., 1963) des prémolaires, les filles appartiennent au groupe ante-ménarche ; alors qu’à partir du stade Rc des prémolaires, elles correspondent au groupe post-ménarche. Nous avons également défini les séquences de minéralisation les plus probablement attribuées au groupe peri-ménarche pour estimer l’âge moyen à la ménarche dans notre échantillon. Cette méthode n’a pas la précision et la fiabilité nécessaires aux études cliniques mais, si sa fiabilité est évaluée, elle pourrait être utile dans le champ de l’archéo-anthropologie et de la paléodémographie. Parallèlement, nous avons défini un protocole de détermination du statut des jeunes filles, individuellement, quant à la ménarche. Cette application du lien entre minéralisation dentaire et ménarche semble fiable et permettra de savoir si la ménarche influence la représentation socio-culturelle des filles en archéo-anthropologie.

Aims: The aims of this study are (1) to measure the correlation between dental mineralization and menarche, and (2) to evaluate the assessment of mean age of menarche by dental mineralization stages. Material: Sample used fo this study represent 86 girls aged between 7 and 17 years (mean age 12.06 ± 1.99 years). For each girl, one to four panoramic radiographs were collected representing a total of 161 radiographs. Girls were examined in private practices in the South West of France between 2005 and 2013. Results: Using correlation ratio, regression and classification trees, bayesian inference and despite the results found in previous studies, it appears that the process of dental mineralization is correlated to menarche in our sample. Until premolars stage F (defined by Demirjian’s et al., 1973), girls belong to ante-menarche group; after premolars stage G, girls belong to post-menarche group. Until premolars stage R3/4 (defined by Moorrees et al., 1963), girls belong to ante-menarche group; after premolars stage Rc, girls belong to post-menarche group. We also define which mineralization sequences are the most probably attributed to peri-menarche group in order to estimate mean age of menarche in our sample. This method cannot provide the accuracy and reliability needed for clinical studies whereas, if its reliability is testing, it may be useful in bioarchaeology and paleodemography. Moreover, we define a protocol to determine girls’ status regarding menarche. This application on the link between dental mineralization and menarche seems to be reliable and may be interesting in bioarcheology to know if menarche influence the representation of girls in social and cultural terms.

Este artigo visa mostrar algumas relações que os Ticuna estabelecem entre " corpo " e " território ". Para tanto, parto da noção de na'ane, que podemos traduzir aproximadamente como cosmo/mundo/terra/roça. Este termo evoca ainda noções de tempo, mas principalmente mantém uma relação com o corpo ticuna, em especial, o corpo em formação. Tudo leva a crer que a cosmogonia ticuna remonta as fases de amadurecimento sexual dos corpos nos mitos e isso é reproduzido nos corpos das pessoas. O foco deste artigo serão as relações do chamado mundo ainda " verde " (do'ü) com o corpo das moças que passam pelo ritual de iniciação feminina, a Festa da Moça Nova. Nestas relações entre o corpo e o cosmo, alguns temas vêm à tona, como o incesto, o sangue, os cabelos, as periodicidades astronômicas e dos corpos das moças.

Adolescence is a period of life determinants. How could adolescence called like that? That's because in adolescence, they will find their identity. Identity is not found easily, it all requires a process, needs to be guidance, direction and time. One part of the identity of teenagers that lifestyle and personal appearance. Among all teens, the most affected are young women. Since the first time they puberty, they will begin to care about their appearance and change their lifestyle, such as those about which he thought was right. In contrast to the young men who are less concerned about it. Lifestyle now it's too unhealthy for teenagers, as well as the appearance began to imitate the western culture ultimately make parents and educators need conduct guidance and more intense supervision of the teenagers, especially teenage girls.

Objectives: Bioarcheological evidence suggests stature increased in males but decreased in females after the Black Death (1348-1350 CE). Because tradeoffs between growth and reproduction can result in earlier ages at menarche and lower limb length, we assess menarcheal age between 1120 and 1540 CE to better understand the health of medieval adolescent females before and after the plague. Materials and Methods: Our sample comprises 74 adolescent females from St. Mary Spital, London (1120-1540 CE) within the age range during which menarche occurs (10-25 years). They were assessed as being pre-or post-menarcheal and divided into three groups: Early Pre-Black Death (n = 13), Late Pre-Black Death (n = 38), and Post-Black Death (n = 23). Changes in the ages of pre-and post-menarcheal females were assessed using Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The average age of post-menarcheal females increased from the Early-to Late Pre-Black Death periods and declined after the Black Death. Conclusions: Short stature can reflect unfavorable growth environments, while younger menarcheal age indicates improved living conditions. The paradoxical pattern of female, but not male, stature reduction after the Black Death might reflect the association of early menarche with lower limb length and signal that adolescent females experienced improved health conditions after the epidemic. Our focus on pre-and post-menarche within a limited age span provides a novel approach for inferring average ages of menarche over time. Pathways to skeletal development and reproductive investment are part of an integrated system, providing a bridge between life history research in bio-archaeology and human biology.

Kinship refers to the system by which a given culture defines, determines and recognizes family roles, interactions and relationships. Anthropologist Robin Fox states that "the study of kinship is the study of what man does with the basic facts of life – mating, gestation, parenthood, socialization, siblingship etc." Human society is unique, he argues, in that we are "working with the same raw material as exists in the animal world, but we can conceptualize and categorize it to serve social ends. These social ends include the socialization of children and the formation of basic economic, political and religious groups.
We all know that the relationship between children and parents are very beautiful but what when we often see, if not generalizing, that there is a hesitation and communication gap between them at a particular phase of life. That phase we call as the puberty period. Now let’s talk about puberty. What is the first thing that comes into our minds when we say puberty? Well, sex is the most common thought that pops out from the head of many people. But there is much more than sex to puberty. Puberty is a very unique and important evolving stage of all males and females.
Puberty happens to everybody, but it doesn’t happen to everybody at the same time. Puberty is the time between childhood and adulthood when girls and boys become mature physically and sexually. Puberty is one of the most important life transitions. At no other time are there such significant and rapid transformations in biology, social and psychological development. Puberty is also the start of adolescence, which is a longer period of emotional change. Here in my research paper I am going to deal with psychological, biological and social affect of puberty to a teenager. The various aspects of puberty, body image, aggression, sexual abuse, opposite sex relationships and the psychopathology of puberty and finally, how the family members respond to their child on their various mental and physical transformations. Also, I will try to put some light on the Puberty Rituals performed in our country.

It could be argued that common conceptions of dancers being malnourished, un-derweight and prone to eating disorders, flourish in the minds of many. It could also be argued that female dancers especially - and particularly female ballet dancers - often are at the centre of these conceptions.
Through extensive research on the subject I have found that there may be much truth to these conceptions. With the help of various studies, personal accounts of currently active and retired dancers, and the views of people closely involved with dance I will try to discuss the truth to the claims; the reasons behind this seem-ingly distorted reality in parts of the dance world; and most importantly what measures can be/are being taken to prevent this reality.

Age at menarche is a frequently used indicator to study growth and development. The development of hand and wrist indicates the peak height velocity which appears about two years before menarche. Bone development is linked with dental mineralization but the relationship between tooth maturation and sexual maturity has not been demonstrated yet (Lewis & Garn 1960, Garn et al. 1965, Demirjian 1985). Proving that a link exists between these indicators would be interesting to study trends of development rhythm from menarche: easy to collect and to encode, panoramic radiographs could be a new way to know menarche status in large samples.
Our sample consists in 176 panoramic radiographs of French girls from 7 to 17 years old, with known menarche status. Dental mineralization was encoded with Demirjian et al. 1973 and Moorrees et al. 1963 methods.
Despite previous studies results, statistical tools (correlation ratios, regression and classification trees, Bayes’ theorem) show that premolars mineralization is correlated with menarche. We have created computer programs based on the implementation bayesian inference results with premolars: (1) to estimate mean age of menarche in a population sample; (2) to assign menarche status (ante or post). Mean age of menarche estimation is based on seven mandibular tooth stages: program calculates mean dental age of girls selected to be peri-menarche thanks to their premolars tooth stages. Menarche status assignation requires premolars tooth stages only.
Further studies are planned to get the accuracy needed in clinical studies and to test our computer programs in a meta-population sample.

Menarche, or the arrival of the first period, has always been a marker of adult development for girls. It signifies a body preparing for its reproductive role and entry into adult life. It is often surrounded by confusion and shame and can lead to anxiety and eating disorders. In the seventeenth century in England, menarche was approached with trepidation by families and physicians alike. In Renaissance tradition, the stages of life were measured in seven-year stretches, which, for girls, meant that fourteen became the symbolic age for the onset of menstruation. The menstrual blood itself signaled the arrival of sexual desire, thus defining the end of childhood innocence and entry into female embodiment and sexual awareness. It was a precarious age for girls. Renaissance physicians feared the onset of disease, such as ‘‘green sickness,’’ and the Protestant church preached of the dangers to the soul with the arrival of sexual temptation. The concept of menstrual blood as unclean and defiled as
defined in the Bible gained public traction with the publication of English translations, followed by the demonization of women’s ‘‘menstruous’’ clouts (pads), as seventeenth-century English preachers increasingly turned to this simile for sinfulness. How did young pious girls respond to this biblical interpretation of menstruation as a
source of evil? Three case studies of girls suffering from what could be termed religious anorexia show that it is possible to identify menstruation as the driving fear behind their selfstarvation, the religiously acceptable means of causing menstruation to cease. Residual echoes of this Protestant fear of menstruation, expressed in the term ‘‘the curse,’’ may lie at the core of some eating disorders today.

Cultural values, traditions, and concepts of male and female social roles are passed on to children, generation by generation, through processes of socialization and enculturation. In the past, gender roles were strictly delineated among the Ganda people in Uganda. The mechanisms for transmitting such social models from family to a child were primarily rites of passage performed during the childhood and fastened off through female puberty rites okukyalira ensiko , consisted in labia minora elongation.

In the Buganda Kingdom, by experiencing this rite of passage led by the father’s sister (Ssenga), a young lady was legally recognized as a woman, member of the community and was entitled to marry and bear children.

Nowadays girls may not lean on the prescribed by the ancestors social roles, if they want to. Furthermore, the power of taking decisions, possibility to choose the individual way and profession correlate with modernized forms of tradition: puberty rites are organized in schools and a special schoolyard garden is held for plants needed during the rite; also in today’s digital age, the traditional Ssenga has been replaced by Ssenga’s online services that are used, among others, for example by Europeans .

The construction of childhood, patterns of education and bringing up a child depend on the Institutes of adult life. Inspired by Namubiru’s stories, the editor of the book Crossroads  written by Ugandan female journalists about modern challenges, I met the author during my research trip. She told me that she wants her daughters to inherit tradition, but nowadays the model of female social life has changed substantially and the information which is usually given after girl’s first menstruation during the rite should be given by pieces on time, when she comes of age and perhaps receives her passport.

According to African demographers adolescents are frequently the most assailable part of society, as they are increasingly exposed to the influence of mutually opposing tendencies –  tradition and modernity, and required to reconcile them . Nevertheless, nowadays their choices are reshaping the tradition without underestimating it and trying paces of the “western image” without following it. In fact, the new generation may be called as trend makers.

The article is going to be based on the analysis of 60 interviews, conducted during field research in 2017 and 2018 in three villages of Uganda Nakabaale, Kisojjo, Mubende and Mpererwe (suburb of Kampala).

Remaja putri dengan disabilitas intelektual (DI) mengalami pubertas seperti remaja pada umumnya. Namun, mereka kesulitan merespon perubahan dalam pubertas karena hambatan intelektual dan kemampuan adaptif, sehingga rentan mengalami kekerasan seksual. Penelitian bertujuan menggali pengetahuan remaja putri dengan DI ringan dalam menghadapi masa pubertas melalui wawancara telepon pada tiga remaja putri dengan DI ringan berusia kronologis 10-16 tahun, serta ibu dan guru dari tiga partisipan. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik. Triangulasi dilakukan untuk memenuhi keabsahan data.
