One of the leading urban planners of his time, Henri Prost was invited to İstanbul in 1936 to draw up the city's master plan. Prost's plans span from 1936 to 1951.  The exhibition was curated by Pierre Pinon, known for his work on İstanbul's urban fabric and architecture, and Cânâ Bilsel, whose work focuses on the history of urban planning, urban design and urban architecture.  Prost was an extremely important figure in the history of urban planning of the 20th century, working on İstanbul’s planning, he attempted to preserve the unique topography, the fabric and the historical monuments of the city, while at the same time he tried to find consistent solutions to a variety of problems like constructing a modern infrastructure, providing sanitary conditions, easing transportation, refurbishing recreational areas and uncovering historically - culturally important buildings. It is impossible to deny that in the fifty years that have passed, Prost remains the leading architect-urban planner in shaping the İstanbul of the 20th century and has left his mark on today's İstanbul, despite the fact that various approaches in the modern planning of a historical metropolis like İstanbul have come to the fore.

1936 yılında İstanbul'a davet edilen ve kentin Nazım Planı'nı oluşturmakla görevlendirilen, dönemin önde gelen şehircilerinden Henri Prost'un İstanbul planlamasına yönelik çalışmalarından oluşan sergi, Fransız Mimarlık Enstitüsü XX. Yüzyıl Mimarlık Arşivleri'nden özgün belgeleri ve dönemin fotoğraflarını içeriyor.1936'dan 1951'e kadar onbeş yıllık bir döneme yayılan Prost planlaması üzerine bugün de süren tartışmalara, Henri Prost'un mesleki kariyerindeki az bilinen bir döneme ve İstanbul'un şehircilik tarihine ışık tutan serginin küratörlüğünü, İstanbul'un kentsel dokusu ve mimarisi üstüne çalışmalarıyla tanınan Pierre Pinon ve şehircilik tarihi, kentsel tasarım ve kent mimarlığı çalışmalarıyla bilinen Cânâ Bilsel yapıyor. 20. yüzyıl şehircilik tarihi için son derece önemli bir planlamacı olan Prost, öğrenciliğinden itibaren tanıdığı ve çok etkilendiği İstanbul'u ele alırken, bir yandan kentin özgün topografyası, dokusu ve mimari anıtlarını korumayı, diğer yandan da çağdaş altyapılarla donatmayı hedeflemiş, hijyen koşullarının sağlanması, ulaşımın rahatlatılması, rekreasyon alanlarının düzenlenmesi, tarihi - kültürel açıdan önemli yapıların ortaya çıkarılması gibi pek çok soruna birbiriyle uyumlu çözümler getirmeye çalışmıştır. Tarihi Yarımada başta olmak üzere, Galata-Beyoğlu ve Eyüp bölgeleri için Prost'un geliştirdiği önerilerin bir kısmı, uygulamaya konulmuş, bazıları ise rafa kaldırılmıştır. Tarihi Yarımada ile Beyoğlu yakasını birbirine bağlayan ve Haliç üzerinden köprüyle geçen metro hattı ya da Yenikapı'da deniz, metro ve kara ulaşımının birbirine eklemlenmesi gibi bazı önerileri ise hâlâ güncelliğini korumaktadır. Aradan geçen yarım yüzyılda, İstanbul gibi tarihsel bir metropolün çağdaş planlamasına ilişkin pek çok farklı yaklaşım gündeme gelmiş olmasına rağmen Prost'un 20. yüzyıl İstanbulu'nu biçimlendiren mimar-şehircilerin başında geldiği ve günümüz kentine damgasını vurduğu inkar edilemez.

Les projets «fonctionnalistes» de la rive gauche de l’Escaut à Anvers, comparés aux deux cités-jardins «culturalistes», Le Logis et Floréal, à Watermael-Boitsfort, illustrent le glissement, autour de 1930, de l'architecture et l'urbanisme régionalistes d'Eggericx vers un modernisme radical. Pourtant, durant tout l’entre-deux-guerres, la pratique urbanistique d’Eggericx est motivée par une même conviction professionnelle : façonner
une société égalitaire fondée sur le principe de rationalité.
D'une manière générale, les projets urbains d'Eggericx sont moins des prises de positions idéologiques que des réponses à des problèmes sociétaux et environnementaux spécifiques.
C'est pourquoi, seule l'étude des modalités de mises en application de la
rationalité d'Eggericx permet de comprendre l'évolution de sa pratique urbanistique. La transformation du contexte sociétal et disciplinaire des années 1910 aux années 1930 explique pour une grande part l'orientation de ses choix.

Henri Prost, who was one of the founders of town planning in France, was invited to prepare the master plan of Istanbul by the Turkish government in 1935. He conducted the planning of the historic capital and the most populous city of Turkey from 1936 to 1951. Although Prost has been renowned particularly with his conservative attitude toward the cultural heritage and the assets of the natural landscape, curiously he adopted a highly interventionist planning approach in Istanbul. " Les Transformations d'Istanbul " is the title of his speech at the Institut de France in September 1947. This title, which he gave later to the collection of his planning notes, reveals the principal goal of his planning in Istanbul on the basis of three principal issues: transportation, hygiene and aesthetics. The aimed transformation was twofold: it consisted in restructuring the city as a whole mainly by establishing a new transportation infrastructure, and reshaping the urban fabric by intervening on the building and population density of the existing centers. In line with the idea of a " concentration plan, " the plans that he prepared for the historic peninsula were directed to rationalize the street network and to increase the building density. But, while Prost intervened radically on the historic fabric of the city, he also cared for the " total effect " in Istanbul's skyline. Prost's plans, which were partly implemented during and after his stay in Istanbul, had long lasting effects on the city's transformation.

Au sortir de la Première Guerre mondiale, Bruxelles voit la constitution d’un cercle intellectuel engagé dans la définition d’une nouvelle élite : l’“urbaniste”. Motivés par leurs convictions sociales et politiques, les membres de la Société des Urbanistes belges (SUB) vont concevoir l’“urbanisme” comme une discipline qui investit de nouveaux horizons professionnels. Cet article cherche à identifier les discours et les outils disciplinaires qui seront mobilisés par cette élite pour tenter de guider le processus d’institutionnalisation de l’urbanisme. Il cherche à comprendre les raisons qui vont contribuer à transformer la figure élitaire de l’architecte-urbaniste en relation avec le cadre institutionnel de Bruxelles.

Diplômé de l’Institut d’Urbanisme de l’ENSAAV - La Cambre en 1951, Jean-Pierre Blondel contribue à l’établissement de l’urbanisme moderneen Belgique dans les années 1950 et 1960 à travers la pratique professionnelle qu’il va initier avec Lucien-Jacques Baucher et OdetteFilippone et plus tard avec l’AUA. Sa carrière va culminer en 1968 avec sa désignation comme co-coordinateur de l’équipe Urbanisme -Architecture (UA), chargée de la conception de la ville nouvelle de Louvain-la-Neuve.Cette pratique professionnelle est nourrie par une réflexion théorique, qui va être largement publiée dans les revues Architecture,Rythme et Habiter, et dont le contenu nous aide à comprendre ses convictions intellectuelles.L’analyse de la conception urbanistique de Baucher, Blondel et Filippone doit se faire à l’aulne de cette dialectique réflexiveentre théorie et pratique du projet d’urbanisme, et ce, même si elle peut parfois sembler conflictuelleavec la production résidentielle de l’association.
