Query formulation is a key aspect of information retrieval, contributing to both the efficiency and usability of many semantic applications. Abstract Schiff base 4-[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)-N-(5-methylisoxazol-3-yl)benzene-sulfonamide has been synthesized from the reaction of 4-amino-N-(5-methylisoxazol-3-yl)benzenesulfonamide(sulfamethoxazole) with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde. It has been characterized by elemental analysis, MS, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HETCOR and UV–Visible techniques. The structure of it also has been examined crystallographically. For the compound exist as dominant form of enol-imines in both the solid state and the solutions. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with a = 8.2694(7), b = 8.3453(5), c = 26.260(2) Å, β = 97.142(7) °, V = 1798.1(2) Å3, D x  = 1.431 g cm−3, R 1 = 0.0529 and wR 2 = 0.1370 [I > 2σ(I)], respectively. In electrical impedance tomography (EIT), current patterns are injected into a subject and boundary voltages are measured to reconstruct a cross-sectional image of resistivity distribution. Static EIT image reconstruction requires a computer model of a subject, an efficient data-collection method and robust and fast reconstruction algorithms. The finite-element method is used as the computer model. The paper describes the finite-element analysis software package developed, including an interactive graphical mesh generator and fast algorithms for solving linear systems of equations using sparse-matrix and vector techniques. Various models of irregularly shaped subjects are developed using mesh-design tools, including automatic mesh generation and optimisation using the Delaunay algorithm. Even though the software package is customised for use in electrical impedance tomography, it can be used for other biomedical research areas, such as impedance cardiography, cardiac defibrillation and impedance pneumography.

GEOX is a computer package of Splus and Matlab routines implementing interactive graphics methods for exploring spatial data. We analyse a large data basis from the regional public health insurance agency concerning physicians'' activity in the Midi-Pyrenees region. We evaluate in particular heterogeneity and outliers in the density of physicians, their prescriptions per patient, salaries, number of visits per patient, etc.. We examine spatial dependencies of the main variables and thus locate spatial clusters. We attempt to explain the patterns of the prescription by some characteristics of the physicians together with the socio-economic characteristics of the counties using a spatial regression model with autocorrelated errors involving a hierarchical structure since these two sets of variables are known at a different level: physician level or county level.

Abstract  (5R,6S,7S,8S,9S,10R,13S,14S,17S,20R,22R)-6α,7α-epoxy-5α,17α,27-trihydroxy-1-oxo-22R-witha-2,24-dienolide has been isolated from Withania somnifera leaves. Three-dimensional X-ray intensity data were collected at 293 K on Bruker CCD area-detector diffractometer equipped with graphite-monochromated MoKα radiation (λ = 0.71073 Å). The compound crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21 with unit cell parameters: a = 6.4540(2), b = 11.3656(4), c = 17.4982(5) Å, β = 90.730 o(2), Z = 2. The crystal structure was refined to a final R-value of 0.0419 for 6122 observed reflections.

In this paper we describe a heavily constrained university timetabling problem, and our genetic algorithm based approach to solve it. A problem-specific chromosome representation and knowledge-augmented genetic operators have been developed; these operators ‘intelligently’ avoid building illegal timetables. The prototype timetabling system which is presented has been implemented in C and PROLOG, and includes an interactive graphical user interface. Tests with real data from our university were performed and yield promising results.

The statistical analysis of data which is measured over a spatial region is well established as a scientific tool which makes considerable contributions to a wide variety of application areas. Further development of these tools also remains a central part of the research scene in statistics. However, understanding of the concepts involved often benefits from an intuitive and experimental approach, as well as a formal description of models and methods. This paper describes software which is intended to assist in this understanding. The role of simulation is advocated, in order to explain the meaning of spatial correlation and to interpret the parameters involved in standard models. Realistic scenarios where decisions on the locations of sampling points in a spatial setting are required are also described. Landscape visualisation is the process of recreating a natural environment and displaying it in an interactive graphical simulation. Current systems that use large datasets to represent the terrain have a number of drawbacks including large storage requirements, low level of detail and overcrowding in multiuser games. In most systems when the landscape is stored to disk the terrain area is quite small or conversely if the area is large the detail is quite low. Here an approach is described in which the terrain is procedurally generated as required. The terrain is produced in the form of blocks and displayed using an innovative page management technique. This approach allows for the generation of a detailed environment, participation by a very large number of players in multiplayer games and easy download of the environment generator via the WWW.

The interest in the generation of 3D façade models is increasing more and more. TLS data have introduced other visions to deal with this topic. This paper proposes a new approach to façade modelling using TLS data. Geometric relevant features of façades are first extracted via a segmentation algorithm. Then, based on the segmentation results, the automatic extraction of edges has been carried out. Afterwards, the edges are decomposed into straight segments and arcs, based on the criterion of the collinearity of points. Then, the intersection points are calculated based on the study of their geometric characteristics, as well as their topological relationships. These points allow us to construct the parametric objects that can be correctly sized and completed via an interactive graphical user interface.
