Iso 45001

ISO has since published its much-awaited Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems standard ISO 45001:2018, which also uses the mandated ‘common clause sequence, text and terminology’ stipulated under Annex SL, Appendix 2, ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1, Consolidated ISO Supplement, 2014.

The author has always noticed - throughout his extensive experience as a management-systems expert, consultant, trainer and auditor since 1996 - that the users of ISO’s management-system standards find these standards quite difficult to comprehend; mainly because the text in these ISO standards uses quite complex syntax, sentence-structures, etc. Many diverse ‘requirements’ are included in single complex sentences, with the requirements to ‘formulate the system’ highly mixed-up with the requirements to ‘implement the system’.

Standard ISO 45001:2018 is also no exception. As a result, all the ‘requirements’ under this Standard, and their mutual relationships, intent, mandated content/coverage, etc, may not be clearly understood and appreciated; thus, threatening the OHSMS in organizations, based on this Standard, to remain patchy, and maybe not addressing all the wonderfully crafted ‘requirements’ under this Standard, or in the desired perspective and with desired weightage.

The author has been addressing this issue of ISO’s management-system standards by imparting clarity on the requirements of all such Standards through his training programmes and interactions.

Earlier, he had shared on www.acedamia.edu his easily-understandable version of standard ISO 14001:2015, which remains widely liked and used.

Now on similar lines, the author, presents this easily understandable version of standard ISO 45001:2018 for the use of all serious readers of this Standard, specially consultants, trainers and certification-body auditors.

ISO has since published its much-awaited management-systems standard ISO 45001:2018, presenting wonderfully determined elements (requirements) for the most effective Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) for all organizations.

No doubt, the effectiveness and success of such an OHSMS in an organization depends on the level of its actual compliance against all the ‘requirements’ put-up under this Standard. Obviously, the right type of audits and/or assessments are the only tools to bring out the status of such compliances; and no doubt, a good audit checklist is a must to ensure the desired quality of such an audit/assessment.

Indecently, standard ISO 45001:2018 presents its various OHSMS requirements rather mixed-up under complex syntaxes and sentence-structures. This makes it difficult for a common user to clearly understand all these requirements, and also, to precisely appreciate them in terms of the intended approach and purpose. This is why, such audit checklists available elsewhere generally fail to achieve the actual purpose; since they either present text copied as such from the Standard, or present some deviation from the intended requirements of the Standard, where the text is changed.

To facilitate this, and based on his vast experience of such management-systems in various capacities since 1996, the author presents a comprehensive but easy to understand checklist covering all the requirements under standard ISO 45001:2018, but at the same time, without any change in the intent of the Standard.

This checklist by the author may be used for all types of assessments and audits against ISO 45001:2018, viz, first-party, second-party and third-party; and also, for clearly understanding and appreciating this Standard.

Earlier, the author had shared on www.acedamia.edu a correspondence between standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007, which was widely liked and used. Upon ISO's publication of OHSMS standard ISO 45001:2018 to replace OHSAS 18001:2007, the author now presents correspondence between these four management-system standards. Again, this is based on the actual content/coverage of clauses, and not on just the similarities of clause headings.

The purpose is to facilitate, (a) the understanding and appreciation of relative coverage/content of these standards; (b) the structuring for an integrated management system of these standards in any combination; (c) the upgradation of OHSAS 18001:2007 based system to ISO 45001:2018 based system; and/or (d) the planning for integrated audits against these standards in any combination.
Any such correspondence is not available under any of these new standards, apparently because all of these now use a ‘common clause structure and approach' and 'identical core text' as mandated by ISO to benefit users to implement multiple ISO management system standards.

Still, the clause structures in these ISO standards differ down the line at places, even for the clauses of overall systemic controls, as apparent in this document.

Even if the correspondence shown here may suggest similarity in content/coverage under respective clauses of these standards, the exact requirements are not similar but differ under corresponding clauses, even if clause headings are same/similar. This is true even for standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, which use ‘common clause structure and approach' and 'identical core text'.

Based on the clause 3.8 and 3.9 of OHSAS 18001:2007 (http://www.vorfall.info), incidents in occupational health and safety management can be classified in 12 different categories. The table is simple: This paper just has one page. (By the way, the first ISO 45001 draft failed to provide such a categorization.)

This document presents the correspondence between all clauses of these two OH&S management system standards. It is based on the actual content/coverage of respective clauses, not on just the similarities in their headings. It may be noted that ISO has not provided any such correspondence under its newly issued standard.

The purpose of this paper is to facilitate understanding and appreciation among implementing organizations, auditors and consultants about the coverage/content of the new standard issued by ISO to replace OHSAS 18001:2007.

This is a press release from British Standards Institution (BSI). The 2nd committee draft of ISO 45001 is available for public review - probably until end of April 2015. The standard is about managing Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and probably will be one of the most disputed standards in the history of international standardization.

In this highly regulated environment, it is required by all organizations to change its reactive approach to proactive approach. In this context, our paper reviews the Lean management, its relevance in HSMS and development of a structured framework for implementation.

The normative development is carried out by specialized and representative parties, in order to elaborate a guideline that everyone can follow; So far nothing new, but for something the height specialists have been waiting for more than 20 years for a standard that could adequately cover rope access work in the US regulatory framework ... and now we have it!

Thanks to the new ANSI Z459, which is integrated into the existing panorama of specific CE, CEN and ISO international standards on vertical work, we can now clarify that rope work is put as a tool (access method) within the different work activities at heights. This approach is well defined in the reference standard and even more marked throughout its development, which links it with the previous ANSI Z359 for safety at heights. This clarification, although it allows to strengthen the legal and training scheme of some schools and teaching systems, turns out to be revolutionary with respect to the best-known rope access associations, which are currently completely outside the official international standards of Vertical Work. The reason goes hand in hand with the important improvements that finally allow the vertical work sector to be highly professionalized. We are going to see point by point what were the main changes, which are currently in the migration phase, to be complied with within August 2022.

In this paper, we presented a model to implement an IMS based on a systemic approach and risk-based thinking at TAMCO, a servicing company in the heavy lifting industry. Moreover, we calculated the risk priority number to sustainably monitor risks and opportunities. We also examined the literature, the IMS process, and experiences of other companies. We identified many benefits such as making better decisions, enhancing communication, continuously considering and managing risks, improving organisational efficiency, creating a positive image of the company, and more caring about the environment. We considered new parts published in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, considering interested parties' needs and expectations. Thus, we provided a link between processes and risks/opportunities according to interested parties' needs and expectations. We pointed out two major aspects to keep an organisation's competitiveness in the market, including risk-based thinking and meeting interested parties' needs and expectations.

The excellent OHSAS 18001 certification scheme of the Dutch SCCM (Stichting Coördinatie Certificatie Milieu- en arbomanagementsystemen, not the Microsoft SCCM) shows how workers can participate in audits of OH&S management systems.

I assume, that there will be a similar scheme for the upcoming ISO 45001.

در یک تعریف کلی حوادث ناشی از کار به حوادثی اطلاق می¬گردد که در حین انجام وظیفه و به سبب آن برای بیمه شده اتفاق می‌افتد. مقصود از حین انجام وظیفه تمام اوقاتی است که بیمه شده در کارگاه یا مؤسسات وابسته یا ساختمان‌ها و محوطه آن مشغول به کار باشد و یا به دستور کارفرما در خارج از محوطه کارگاه عهده دار انجام مأموریتی گردد. در پژوهش حاضر، با هدف بررسی کاهش حوادث در محیط کار در کارگاه¬های ریخته-گری، ضمن پیاده سازی استاندارد مدیریت ایمنی و بهداشت شغلی (ISO 45001) به بررسی آمار حوادث در یک بازه 9 ماهه از شش ماه دوم سال 97 تا پایان سه ماه اول سال 98 پرداخته شد. جامعه مورد مطالعه 5 کارگاه ریخته¬گری در نظر گرفته شد و برای ارزیابی از شاخص ضریب تکرار حادثه (FR)، شاخص ضریب شدت حادثه (SR)، شاخص SAFE-T-SCOREو شاخص شدت تکرار حادثه (FSI) استفاده گردید. نتایج نشان داد با پیاده سازی استاندارد سیستم مدیریت ایمنی و بهداشت شغلی در کارگاه¬های مورد مطالعه، توسط تیم چندتخصصی با رهبری مدیریت ارشد سازمان، 12 ریسک اصلی شناسایی و پس از تدوین 6 دستورالعمل، آموزش و بهینه سازی شرایط کارگاهی، تعداد حوادث شغلی در بعضی موارد تا 100 درصد کاهش داشته است. همچنین کلیه شاخص¬های اشاره شده، پس از بررسی در وضعیت مطلوب¬تری قرار گرفته¬اند. نتایج بیانگر این مهم نیز بود که در راستای پیاده سازی استاندارد مدیریت ایمنی و بهداشت شغلی، مشکلاتی وجود دارد که بالغ بر 58 % مشکل، مربوط به مسائل مالی سازمان¬ها می¬باشد.

According to the International Labor Organization's estimates of 2017, 160 million people in the world are suffering from work-related illnesses, and that 270 million work-related accidents occur every year across the word. Industries in Arab nations have some room for improvement in the implementation of occupational safety and health measures and inefficiency related to occupational safety and health. This study focusses on review of the most relevant literature in the application of occupational safety and health systems in improving employee's performance. The study recommended several recommendations that would help in the implementation of occupational safety and health systems and improve the performance of employees in companies, such as providing of training courses for employees; establishing a specialized department for occupational safety and health; providing specialized supervisors to follow the occupational safety and health procedures within the company; providing a safe, stimulating and risk-free work environment; adopting occupational safety and health regulations within international and local standards.
