This paper discusses the findings from a study on teaching in practical work on automotive courses at Vocational Colleges in Malaysia. The random sampling technique was used in selecting 283 students and 63 teachers as respondents from the automotive courses. The findings of the research indicate that teachers have strong preference in using the demonstration and questioning technique during the set induction stage of teaching. Teachers also prefer group monitoring and problem solving during the teaching phase, and re-explaining and report writing in the post-teaching stage. This research provides the combination of teaching techniques that could be used in teaching vocational skills in general and automotive practical work in particular. This study has concluded that vocational teaching method in automotive practical work to be applied in teaching for other practical courses to improve current practices. Thus, teachers are proposed to use this method to improve students’ knowledge ...

The main goal of this paper is to examine the fine granularity of learning content and its impact of the adaptability process in Adaptive Learning Systems (ALS). For that purpose, we present the concept and the essence of learning objects. Then, we approach some content models by clarifying the adopted levels of granularity and/or aggregation. After that, we discuss the fine-grained as a fundamental characteristic to reach the adaptability and individualization required in ALS. Finally, we propose our own model of learning objects by underlining the levels of granularity considered and by presenting a use case of its ability to meet the properties associated with fine-grained and adaptability.

Fully residential schools (FRS) or boarding schools in Malaysia produce quality candidates with towering personalities. This study seeks to explore the choice of career as well as the parents and gender influences on the career as a teacher among top FRS students in Malaysia. A survey design, which is mainly quantitative in nature, was used in this empirical study. A self-designed questionnaire was used in collecting data from 305 participants from three top FRS in Malaysia. This study revealed that only 6.2% of students selected 'teacher' as a career of choice. Other respondents opted for different professions such as medical doctors, engineers, and scientists. Of the students who chose ‘teacher’ as their career of choice, 31.6% have one or both parents from a teaching background. The study also found that the influence of gender on the career as a teacher was not significant with t (303) = 0.446, p = 0.656. Several recommendations were made. This study suggests further inc...

This panel describes the refugees’ crisis and its impact on school age children. The focus is on the Syrian children refugees in Mount Lebanon, an area that is usually forgotten. The United Nations offers schooling to primary school children in this remote region, but lack of resources in Mount Lebanon schools is evident, access to technologies and applications integration is very limited, and teachers’ frustration is obvious. There are a quarter of a million Syrian refugees in the country who still do not have access to formal education in the Lebanese school system. The country is looking to integrate and develop better educational opportunities to provide better access to education via technologies. Quality education is the key to achieve sustainable development in all aspects, especially if this continues in emergency and crises, this was the topic of discussion at the UNESCO headquarter in Paris during the Mobile Learning Week 2017, and the presented case study is to deal with ...

The purpose of this study is to present an analysis of how the structure and design of the Interactive 3D Graphics Learning Objects can be effective and efficient in terms of Performance, Time on task, and Learning Efficiency. The study explored two treatments, namely whole versus Part Presentations of the Interactive 3D Graphics Learning Objects, using two samples of pre-service teachers at the College of Education, Helwan University. Participants in the study were 40 pre-service teachers randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups. Data analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses derived from research questions. Independent-Samples T-Test was used to investigate the main effect of the instructional approach (Whole-Task versus Part-Task) on the dependent Variables.
Based on suitable instructional design models and testing of the above mentioned dependent variables, the study provided statistical evidence that part presentation of the Interactive 3D Graphics Learning Objects is significantly better than the whole treatment, in terms of Performance and Learning Efficiency. However, no significant difference was found between the treatments in terms of Time on Task.

This study was aimed at: (1) developing an observation instrument for assessing English teaching at vocational secondary schools (VSSs), (2) examining the validity of the developed instrument, (3) examining the inter-rater reliability, and (4) assessing the effectiveness of the developed instrument. The subjects of the three-phase field-tests were English teachers and students of four VSSs. Observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviewes were employed to collect the data. The instruments were field-tested in three phases. Expert judgment, Kappa Coefficient, and Kane’s (2006) argument-based validation and Bachman & Palmer’s intepretive and use argument were used to determine the instrument validity and reliability. The field-test which involved stakeholders prove that the observation instrument could be implemented effectively to assess the teaching of English at VSSs.

The article describes the results of the research work devoted to the designing of content of the bilingual elective course "Information and Communication Technologies" for high school students by means of Russian and English languages. According to the Concept of profile education at the senior stage of general education in the Russian school (2003) elective courses are associated with the satisfaction of individual educational interests, needs and inclinations of each student. Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), that has become widespread in Europe, was taken as the bases of bilingual education. Thus, the use of a foreign language (English) along with the Russian language becomes a way of comprehending knowledge from different subject areas. The introduction of bilingual elective course by means of Russian and English languages allowed students to form additional linguistic and information competence. It was formed at a sufficiently high level in 35% of stud...
