Le mode d'occupation traditionnel du sol - système de menzel et du houch - si particulier à Djerba, disparaît petit à petit. Depuis les années 1960 environ, avec l'arrivée du tourisme balnéaire, l'île a subi des changements architecturaux importants. Des mutations sont perceptibles auprès des habitants de toutes les régions de l'île et concernent toutes les confessions religieuses. Cet article évoque l'aspect des transformations architecturales à Djerba à travers l'exemple de deux familles ibadites de Guellala. Comment et où vivent-ils ? Et quelle est leur conception de l'habitat djerbien ?

The sixth session of Reading Rivers takes place during the exhibition Unruly Connections by Italian artist Alessandra Ferrini, who has engaged extensively with the Italian archive of coloniality. In her research-oriented practice, Ferrini examines in particular the obfuscation and distancing strategies that characterize the Italian colonial past in Libya.

Ferrini takes an editorial approach, interweaving iconographic and written records of those who resisted a genocide being covered up. The selected archival excerpts in her exhibition offer a new angle on the resonances between individual histories. The 14-minute audio piece produced by Alessandra Ferrini for the exhibition provides the soundtrack for Reading Rivers’ extended reading of Unruly Connections. Join us on a discursive guided tour of the exhibition, and then of the city itself, through Ferrini’s artistic-activist lens, exploring places in Bolzano that recall Italy’s colonial history, from street names and squares, to buildings and public monuments. Reading Rivers is delighted to have the historian Hannes Obermair accompany this session and contextualise for us some traces of Bolzano’s imperial past.

Hannes Obermair, born 1961 in Bolzano, historian and exhibition curator, senior researcher at Eurac Research, research focus on the Middle Ages, Fascism, National Socialism, with a special interest in Public History.

Localizada no Grande Magrebe, a Líbia é um importante ator no cenário regional e internacional devido à sua história e cultura, posição geográfica e características geológicas, uma vez que detém imensas reservas de gás natural e de petróleo. Em 1969, Muammar Kadafi chegou ao poder após a queda da monarquia líbia, até então governada pelo rei Idris I e instaurou a República Socialista Árabe. Inspirado pelas ideias do socialismo árabe, do Islã e do pan-arabismo de Nasser, o novo regime revolucionou a situação política, social e econômica da Líbia, graças ao capital oriundo de jazidas de petróleo e à centralidade política que o ditador conseguiu manter durante suas quatro décadas de liderança, modificando praticamente todos os aspectos de vida do país (MAZRUI, 2010). Durante o governo de Kadafi, as decisões governamentais revogaram a legitimidade e a legalidade do Estado, instituindo um mecanismo tirânico de governança (CARMO & HADOOD, 2014). Não enxergando problema em condensar os valores religiosos com as decisões políticas, Kadafi reestruturou as diretrizes do Estado líbio baseado nos princípios do Islã. Dessa maneira, Muammar desenvolveu a Terceira Teoria Universal em 1972, a qual vinculava o Islamismo e o nacionalismo. A ideologia do líder líbio rejeitava o sistema político-econômico capitalista ocidental e o comunismo ateísta, buscando seguir um sistema efetivamente democrático e popular com o desejo de terminar com a influência ocidental no país (SHILLINGTON, 2004). No que diz respeito à sua política externa, a Líbia se manteve diplomaticamente afastada da influência dos Estados Unidos (EUA) e Reino Unido após fechar as bases que ambos os países detinham no território líbio durante a década de 1970. Essa postura condizia com a busca pelo desenvolvimento nacional. No entanto, a Líbia permaneceu dependente de ajuda estrangeira e frágil em relação ao Ocidente. Apesar de não se alinhar diretamente a nenhum bloco durante a Guerra Fria, Kadafi utilizava os recursos advindos da venda de petróleo para a Europa em troca de tecnologia, armamentos e dispositivos militares. Além disso, buscando suprir essa assistência militar, aproximou-se da França, Egito e União Soviética. PAgES Project aims at contributing to the modernisation of the Higher Education sector in Libya through a bottom-up approach for the design and organization of a first level professional Master in Cross-Media Journalism.
The universities of Tripoli, Zawia, Sirte and Misurata will work together - along with the European partners IULM, UNIMED, Sapienza, Aveiro and Granada – by following a participatory approach, and detect local needs to be addressed by means of a new Higher Education project.
The aim of the professional Master Course is to train young people studying communication and journalism and the young professionals in the journalism sector who wish to develop new journalism skills. Cross-media journalism skills is represented by the capability to use all communication platforms – video, text, social media posts, micro- blogging, short stories - to produce journalistic contents.
The so-called citizen journalism or networked journalism is expected to play a particular role, on the other hand, in countries where freedom of speech is a main issue, and where public opinion has to contribute to the overall evolution of social system.
The professional Master Course will be designed by means of a participatory approach, involving teachers, students and professionals. Teachers will be provided with the required skills for the design and delivery of the Master Course through a set of capacity building initiatives: online Resource Repository for Training, online Social Space for discussion and study visits at the European partner institutions.
The length of the Master Course is of 2 years, with the first year being piloted during the lifetime of the project.
