Moroccan Colonial History

Claudia Hopkins and Anna McSweeney are pleased to announce the publication of their co-edited volume Spain and Orientalism as a special issue of Art in Translation 9:1 (2017).


This peer-reviewed special issue resulted from a panel at the AAH 2016 that examined Spain's relationship with its Islamic history, through the painting, photography, design and architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries. Paying particular attention to Spain's complex relations with contemporary Morocco, to the rise of nationalist sentiments in the 19th century, and to the emergence of methods of reproduction and copying that allowed Islamic monuments to be reproduced and translated, the resulting articles explore Spain's response to its own 'Orient' through a broad range of media. Includes an editorial and a select bibliography.

This book includes among its covers a group of researches and studies that formed the topics of scientific meetings organized by the History department in the College of Arts and Humanities in Meknes during the two university seasons 2016/2018. These are studies whose episodes varied between research paths or circles whose owners know their scientific path and their current research interests, between lectures given by guest professors on topics related to their scientific field, and introductory readings of books that dealt with specific issues from the history of Morocco

“Aberkane sous la colonisation” (à l’époque du protectorat français) est le nouvel ouvrage de l’écrivain Abdellah Lahsaini, paru dans la série “Yath Yeznassen”, publiée par l’observatoire de la créativité littéraire, scientifique et technique.

Ce nouvel ouvrage, qui s'insère dans une série de présentation des tribus Béni Yeznassen et de ses spécificités civilisationnelles, met la lumière sur la période de colonisation de la ville de Berkane et ses environs, sous l'occupation française.

De format moyen (96 pages), il comprend des recherches sur les tribus Yath Yeznassen (Béni Yeznassen) qui illustrent la bravoure de ces tribus dans la défense de la patrie sous l'occupation roumaine et française.

Selon l'auteur de ce livre, né en 1980 à Berkane, les recherches archéologiques ont démontré que la région de Béni Yeznassen et de l'Oriental ont été imperméables devant l'occupant, confirmant la rareté voire l'inexistence de monuments roumains dans la région.

Cet ouvrage tend à simplifier l'information historique et archéologique et à la mettre à la disposition de l'ensemble des lecteurs, notamment en ce qui a trait à l'histoire ancienne et moderne de la région de Béni Yeznassen. Il aspire également à mettre en valeur les potentialités culturelles et touristiques de la région.

Today it has been issued a new book, wich is called : "Aberkane city under Frensh Occupation".
it has written by a Moroccan thinker "Abdellah Lahsaini", this book is the part of a series of "Yeth Zenasn” ,issued by the observatory of literary, scientific and technical creation. Under the title Berkane city under the settlement at the time of the frensh protectorate. This book is a part of an identifiable tribes "Yeth Zenasn” it reveals to a new data chronicling the stage of the settlement of Berkane and its environ in the frensh colonial period. The book includes 96 pages of research on "Yeth Zenasn " tribe wish stand out for us their cultural originality and bravery of the people of the tribe in the defense of their land in the roman occupation and in the frensh colonialism. Author has talked to us about something very important which is the man of "Taforalt" who settled in the Tafogalt mountains and who was living some sort of stability in that era. He is the first one who use the brain surgery for the purpose of indications and not as primitive relegious rite.
We also noted that the writer pointed to an archaeological research that they have not recognized the annexation of "yeth Znasen " area and east of Morocco to the colonists. It has confirmed that the region is free from any historic Roman traces except for some buildings . The researcher did his utmost in order to simplify all historical and Archeological informations. To become accessible to all readers to highlight the heritage of this topic area culturally, politically promoted.
