Organizational Effectiveness

This case study describes my experience consulting with an international company on a leadership-development and career-advancement program for women. It aims to highlight the decision-making process that I applied while designing and conducting the coaching element of the program and to share best practice implications for coaching in such programs. I begin by describing the program's goal and the coaching request. Next, I consider the critical aspects of the coaching element; in doing this, I will highlight the challenges I faced and the choices I made. Then I report on the program's outcomes, offer recommendations for organizations conducting similar diversity efforts, and make suggestions about what consultants who provide coaching in such programs should pay particular attention to. Finally, I conclude with a discussion of limitations and a summary of lessons learned.

The research concludes by proposing a framework for integrating business alignment principles into organizational culture and processes, offering a roadmap for businesses to leverage this strategy for long-term success.

This research paper examines the critical challenges and success factors for Project Management Offices (PMOs) based on a comprehensive review of empirical studies and industry best practices. The study analyzes the experiences of established PMOs across various organizations to identify key issues and best practices in PMO implementation and operation. Through qualitative analysis of the literature, several critical success factors emerge, including strategic alignment, executive support, standardized methodologies, performance measurement, and continuous improvement. Major challenges identified include organizational resistance, demonstrating value, and evolving PMO capabilities to meet changing business needs. The research highlights the importance of PMOs adapting their structure, services and focus over time to maintain relevance and drive value creation. Recommendations are provided for PMO leaders to enhance PMO effectiveness and overcome common obstacles. By synthesizing insights from empirical research and industry best practices, this study contributes practical knowledge to guide organizations in optimizing their project management capabilities through PMOs. The findings underscore the strategic role of PMOs in executing organizational strategy and driving business performance when key success factors are in place.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to understand the impact that perceptions of integrity have on perceptions of leadership effectiveness in the context of leadership behaviors.Design/methodology/approachThe paper used multi‐source feedback from top‐level public service managers, their direct reports, peers, and bosses to examine two aspects of the relationship between integrity and leadership. The paper used exploratory factor analysis to investigate what qualities different stakeholders – self, direct reports, peers, and bosses – associate with integrity. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to test whether employee characteristics (age, gender, role and experience) influence the effects of employer brand image, for warmth and competence, on employee satisfaction and engagement.Design/methodology/approachMembers of the public were surveyed as to their satisfaction and engagement with their employer and their view of their employer brand image. Half were asked to evaluate their employer’s “warmth” and half its “competence”. Emphasis on positivity in organizations in increasing, but the importance and credibility of a positive approach to change—exemplified by positive organizational scholarship—remains controversial. More empirical evidence is needed showing that positive practices in organizations produce desirable changes in organizational effectiveness. Two studies—one in financial services and one in the health care industry—are reported, which investigate the link between positive practices and indicators of organizational effectiveness. A positive practices instrument is developed, and evidence is found that positive practices do, in fact, predict organizational performance. More important, improvement in positive practices predicts improvements in certain indicators of effectiveness over time. The results are explained by the inherent amplifying, buffering, and heliotropic effects of positivity in human systems.
