Right Handed

We calculate the incoherent resonant and non-resonant scattering production of sterile neutrinos in the early universe. We find ranges of sterile neutrino masses, vacuum mixing angles, and initial lepton numbers which allow these species to constitute viable hot, warm, and cold dark matter (HDM, WDM, CDM) candidates which meet observational constraints. The constraints considered here include energy loss in core collapse supernovae, energy density limits at big bang nucleosynthesis, and those stemming from sterile neutrino decay: limits from observed cosmic microwave background anisotropies, diffuse extragalactic background radiation, and Li-6/D overproduction. Our calculations explicitly include matter effects, both effective mixing angle suppression and enhancement (MSW resonance), as well as quantum damping. We for the first time properly include all finite temperature effects, dilution resulting from the annihilation or disappearance of relativistic degrees of freedom, and the scattering-rate-enhancing effects of particle-antiparticle pairs (muons, tauons, quarks) at high temperature in the early universe.

Abstract: Each mobile phone with a built-in CMOS sensor can inherently be seen as sophisticated optical sensor being able to analyze its environment in terms of visual events and its own mobility. Due to mass production their price decreases steadily, although their processing capacity increases. Mobile phones are usually attached to people, who are driven by mobility. We define activities arising from this mobility as internal activities in contrast to external activities, that are caused by visual events. Both activities can be recognized by measuring the sensor’s optical flow. We present a method to identify internal activities based on optical flow measurements and probabilistic reasoning. We implement a lifelogging application, running on a Linux-based mobile phone, that can detect internal activities such as moving left-hand, right-hand or walking with a recognition rate of 80%. This paper presents a GPS multipath mitigation method using a dual circularly polarized antenna array and a multi-channel receiver. The method is based on the exploitation of both polarization and spatial diversity associated with a GPS signal and its multipath signals available at the receiver input. Conventional GPS antennas are right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) to suppress multipath contributions to the input. This polarization-based discrimination of multipath signal cannot completely eliminate multipath induced GPS range measurement errors. We present an algorithm that performs spatial processing on the input from the left-hand circular polarized (LHCP) array with an increased relative strength of the multipath signal, thereby providing improved multipath angle of arrival (AOA) estimation. Most previous neurophysiological studies evoked emotions by presenting visual stimuli. Models of the emotion circuits in the brain have for the most part ignored emotions arising from musical stimuli. To our knowledge, this is the first emotion brain study which examined the influence of visual and musical stimuli on brain processing. Highly arousing pictures of the International Affective Picture System and classical musical excerpts were chosen to evoke the three basic emotions of happiness, sadness and fear. The emotional stimuli modalities were presented for 70 s either alone or combined (congruent) in a counterbalanced and random order. Electroencephalogram (EEG) Alpha-Power-Density, which is inversely related to neural electrical activity, in 30 scalp electrodes from 24 right-handed healthy female subjects, was recorded. In addition, heart rate (HR), skin conductance responses (SCR), respiration, temperature and psychometrical ratings were collected. Results showed that the experienced quality of the presented emotions was most accurate in the combined conditions, intermediate in the picture conditions and lowest in the sound conditions. Furthermore, both the psychometrical ratings and the physiological involvement measurements (SCR, HR, Respiration) were significantly increased in the combined and sound conditions compared to the picture conditions. Finally, repeated measures ANOVA revealed the largest Alpha-Power-Density for the sound conditions, intermediate for the picture conditions, and lowest for the combined conditions, indicating the strongest activation in the combined conditions in a distributed emotion and arousal network comprising frontal, temporal, parietal and occipital neural structures. Summing up, these findings demonstrate that music can markedly enhance the emotional experience evoked by affective pictures.

Reliable and valid evaluation of hand strength is important for determining the effectivity of treatment strategies and it is accepted that grip and pinch strength provide an objective index for the functional integrity of upper extremity. This study was designed to evaluate the grip and pinch strength differences between sides for the right and left handed population. The study included 128 right and 21 left hand dominant volunteers. Grip strength of the participants were measured by using a Jamar dynamometer. Pulp pinch strength measurements were performed by manual pinchmeter. When the study group was totally evaluated, a statistically significant difference was found between the grip and pinch strengths of dominant and nondominant hands in favour of the dominant hand. We describe cortical potentials evoked by balloon distension of the proximal and distal oesophagus in 8 healthy right handed volunteers. Oesophageal stimulation was performed using a pump which rapidly inflated a 2 cm silicone balloon positioned either 3 cm distal to the upper oesophageal sphincter or 5 cm proximal to the lower oesophageal sphincter, at a frequency of 0.2 Hz, using inflation volumes which produced a definite but not painful sensation. Oesophageal evoked cortical potentials were recorded in all subjects with an initial negative and positive component (N1 and P1), followed by a second negative and positive component (N2 and P2) in 6 subjects. The morphology and the scalp topography of the N1 component elicited by proximal and distal oesophageal stimulation suggests activation of the primary somatosensory cortex and/or the insular.
